Yeah, I see it happening as a plausible possibility considering the fact Villager borrowed an element from Balloon Fighter.

But here's the thing.
While Animal Crossing has a ton of references to other games. It's mostly to Villager.
Tom Nook though, not so much.

And if anything, you're finding a connection because two games so happen to have racoons.
That's a bit of a stretch don't you think?

The only reason I don't see Nook as likely is because he isn't that popular a contender.
There comes a point where unique characters that are relatively unpopular (Unpopular in the sense that not many request them.) reach a limit. We don't necessarily know when this limit has been reached, but I find it safer it say that is has been now. The game is going to include popular characters. And I think those characters extend outside of just Little Mac, Mega Man and most likely Mewtwo.
Animal Crossing could certainly get a second rep and I wouldn't say that it broke the limit of Animal Crossing characters. But I would say that it's a little irritating that we're not getting characters that tons of people want to see. Wii Fit Trainer is a nice character, but a lot of people want K. Rool, Ridley, Dixie, Palutena, Mewtwo, what-have-you. It's unfair to just ignore them

It's a bit, but I consider it very fitting. If Sakurai were to find a recovery move Tom Nook, I see it very likely he'll take elements from SMB3.

But there are balloons in Animal Crossing. They're another item you can purchase. Villager didn't need to reference Balloon Fighter. Tom Nook would just be outright stealing from a game that he has nothing to do with.

Sakurai isn't going to pick characters that nobody wants for everything Blue. He has to meet fan demand. There have to be big characters. Not every single character is going to meet either criteria. If you think Tom Nook is going to get in, then fine. But don't expect Sakurai to reveal a character that nobody expected without other mind blowing characters/information.

The mere concept that Sakurai would add characters SIMPLY for being unique is asinine. Yes, Nook is iconic, and would probably be a fun character. But if Sakurai were to add all of these unique characters, but none of K.Rool, Ridley, Mewtwo, Palutena and a few others, how do you think fans would feel? They got like 2 characters that they asked for.

All I'm saying, is that this is a game that Sakurai needs to listen to his fans. He isn't adding characters simply to surprise people. He needs to meet fan demand. Palutena can do that, and I don't doubt her reveal coming up shortly.

Basically, the moral of this story is, don't expect every single character to be somebody nobody saw coming. That isn't the point of Smash Bros.

Precisely. Uniqueness of a character only goes so far. This is why they need a combination of many things to be added. Thinking a character would simply be added for being unique is stretching it a bit.

Shock characters are shock characters because there are like two of them per game. Adding in a plethora of them defeats the purpose of "shock".

Yeah, we're just discussing why one or two shock additions is okay, but not a majority of the newcomers for fairly obvious reasons.

That isn't to say I would hate Tom Nook, as I think he could be fun to play as. But after him, they have to be adding big name characters.

K.Rool, Ridley, and Palutena are unique choices, are iconic, and are highly requested newcomers. There is a massive difference between them and Tom Nook.

So far we have Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, and Rosalina that the majority of Smashboards hadn't predicted. That's a decent amount depending on who else we're getting. If we're getting 10, then that is enough. If it's 14 then yeah, I could go for one more.

I see what you're getting at, but don't expect much else from the shocking side. Expect at least one big name on Tuesday.

Only reason Villager wasn't predicted much was because of Sakurai's statement in regards to Animal Crossing in general.
Though, the fact he did have ideas for Villager when deciding Brawl's roster led people like me to believe in the possibility that he would change his mind and go with his ideas.

As for Rosalina, after it was heavily hinted at that she would be playable in 3D World, some (not me) jumped to the possibility that she would be in Smash as well.

Wii Fit Trainer is literally the only Newcomer so far that was entirely left-field. Which was, coincidentally, part of the reason Sakurai included her in the first place.

You have to look at context as far as character requests go. Tom Nook emerged as the supported choice for an Animal Crossing character after Sakurai deemed the series 'too peaceful.' As to why that happened, Tom Nook is, in the Internet's eyes, an antagonistic meme. To them, he's the furthest thing from 'peaceful' in the series, and thus, represented one last hope for an Animal Crossing Congressional Rep, despite not being the face of Animal Crossing like the Villager. This was, of course, when people thought Sakurai's judgment was absolute.

However, since Sakurai looked past his previous reservations, he added in the more iconic Villager, and through his various props, made him a playable representation of the series as a whole. Nook is superfluous in that regard; two prop-swinging cutesy newcomers from the same series isn't a probable outcome, no matter how loudly his fans moan that he should be considered with Ridley and K. Rool and we'll definitely see him Tuesday.

Although Palutena's time to be revealed was passed in March, he may surprise with her.
There's also Layton, whom had an Azran Legacy release earlier in March.

Exactly. At this point, I'd be hyped just to see some new faces (not speaking of just Newcomers), regardless of whether or not I like the character.

There has to be at least one or two veterans shown, since it's not as though the reveals of Rosalina or Little Mac kept us from getting veterans in the months before their reveals.

With regard to newcomers, I'm just crossing my fingers it's a quality newcomer, if there's one at all. Not an underwhelming one, and especially not the Mii, but anyone with an entertaining trailer who can generate good discussion and hopefully kill some BS "leaks" in the process.

Yes, she was added for what she could bring to the table, but being completely unexpected also played a role in her inclusion.

Good afternoon Fellow Smash Bros fans and I must say I'm indeed very excited to know what's coming in less than a week. A full Nintendo direct fully dedicated to Smash Bros! I can easily understand the month-long drought, and if we're getting a 30-40 minute direct entirely for it, I'm all ears. We'll most likely see some veterans, we'll definitely see newcomers, and who knows, perhaps the whole "Villains" thing may be taken into account.

We'll also probably get more details on gameplay, a show-off of some of the new final smashes, and of course, the release date may finally be given to us. Who knows, we may actually get multiple newcomers this time around.

I highly doubt anyone from Platinum games will be playable, but I can definitely see a Wonderful 101 stage. That, or Platinum Games' Metal Gear Rising is going to get the Metal Gear stage and Snake's being revealed.

Also, if the big "Villains" Schtick is indeed what's going to be taken into account, Ganondorf, Ridley, Mewtwo and K.Rool announcements can indeed be very possible.

I was just thinking about him, and I was contemplating adding him to my roster actually.
We have an Isabelle assist trophy, and I highly doubt that they will ditch Resetti.

I think Smash is certainly capable of showing of the New as well as the Old. Having 1-2 recent stars (i.e. characters from successful titles or series) in a 40+ Smash roster needn't be impermissible; it would serve to better represent the breadth of Nintendo's output.

But what do I know? I'm just a kooky wabbit.

EDIT: I realize that Wonder Red is Third-Party, so the above may not be fully relevant. If Wonder Red gets in, it would be due to breakout success and high playstyle/uniqueness value.
