I seriously doubt it. Why would Animal Crossing, a series that Sakurai once explicitly described as being "too peaceful" for Smash, suddenly get two reps for its debut? And whatever Tom Nook can do as a playable character, so could the Villager.

Maybe cause since brawl it's become one of Nintendo's bigger franchises with 2(?) new games since brawl.

Also, you seriously doubt sakurai's creativity? Shame.

Smash direct? This basically means multiple reveals at once, more footage, maybe... release date? Picture this...

Link is walking through a forest when he happens upon an old Japanese temple, suddenly he gets attacked by a mysterious samurai, Takamaru slashes into battle! Newcomer right off the bat, they continue fighting until Zelda comes along, who then transforms into Sheik, who helps Link. Then it gets dark and Ganondorf slams his sword down between Link and Takamaru, cue gameplay footage of a fight between Link, Takamaru, Sheik, and Ganondorf, who now has a completely new moveset. Cut back to the CG and a rain of light arrows come down as Pit makes his appearance, he raises his hand and calls upon his goddess, Palutena descends into battle! More footage showcasing Palutena and Pit against Link and Takamaru, cut back to CG again to see a charging glow in the background, Samus releases her Zero Laser towards them and then her suit crumbles to reveal a returning Zero Suit Samus, more gameplay footage with randomly appearing Ice Climbers until it cuts to CG again, a giant shadow leaps onto the screen, Ridley wasn't too big crashes into battle! More gameplay footage before the obligatory ending CG scene.

What you didn't notice was the box hiding in the direct, a codec plays at the end of the direct, veteran Solid Snake returns to the battlefield!

Three newcomers, five veterans, prepare the hype, prepare to be disappointed.

Based on the deconfirmation of Isabelle, I'm leaning towards Tom Nook. And when Sakurai said there will be tons of info, I'm leaning that the customization will lead to Mii.

Based on the deconfirmation of Isabelle, I'm leaning towards Tom Nook. And when Sakurai said there will be tons of info, I'm leaning that the customization will lead to Mii.

I'm still going to say Tom Nook is unlikely at best. Just because an assistant from the game became an assist trophy, doesn't mean he's going to appear as a playable character. I still think the Villager alone is fine for Animal Crossing representation.

Also, I would like to hear some arguments for making Tom Nook unique, since the vast majority of what he could do is already done by the Villager.

Tom Nook could have elements from SMB3 being able to fly with his tail and with the ability to into a statue. Being able to throw random furniture that at first turns into a leaf just like in AC, then pops out like Dr. Wright's Building.
There's a lot of potential for Tom Nook that no one else currently has.

Pikachu is featured walking in a dark cave. Near to pikachu apear a moving feet, the camera close in the face of the person showing Pokemon Trainer. In the and of the cave, a dark silhouette appears near to a wall. Pikachu uses flash and Mewtwo strikes back! Gameplay scenes are showed, Mewtwo defeats Pikachu, Squirtle and Ivysaur with ease. Charizard gets the Smash ball and Mega Zard X defeats Mewtwo. Mewtwo appears in a regeneration chamber, and a voice says that she have never seen this kind of monster before, the voice is of Melia. Reyn appears and says that saw the monster fighting against some kind of yellow bunnit. Mewtwo wakes-up and another voice says "take care, it's dangerous! something bad is going to happen!" in a britsh accent. The monster destroys the chamber to fight and Shulk joins the battle! Some game play are showed, Shulk wins, Link and Zelda are featured, Zelda transforms into Sheik, and fights Ganondorf. Shulk helps and defeats the enemy.
Maybe Challenger approaching, some other newcomer apears, every body is happy.
Prepares for insanity!

In a realistic view point, I expect one newcomer and three veterans.

Im predicting 1 newcomer, but a reveal of a bunch of veterans, including Yoshi, Cpt Falcon, Ness, Jiggs, Ganondorf, ZSS, Wario. The newcomer could honestly be anybody.

Im really hyped for some other info about the game (Adventure mode, stadium games, event matches, new game modes, etc.) I welcome any new information, im just dying to learn more about anything at this point. Of course a release date would be the thing that sends me over the edge.

I too, don't think he's really needed but I wouldn't mind him being playable due to me being a huge Animal Crossing fan. I think he'd end up as a semi-clone.

Im pretty sure were gonna get at least one newcomer. I mean, this is a Smash Specific direct, so i would suspect it would have something. Also, theres hasnt been a character for almost 2 months. Im anticipating something pretty significant.

I highly doubt they would drag us through an entire direct just to announce ATs, stages, items, and the like.

I think at best, we're getting one newcomer, and maybe 2 veterans. Most likely Ganondorf and someone else who's getting a re-haul- so maybe Yoshi. I'd want it to be like the Developer Direct and just be Sakurai talking for a while about the game. That alone would make me super happy. And a release date on top of everything would be amazing, but i'm expecting that more so at E3.

I'm trying to be realistic here. Again, why would a franchise that was considered to be "too peaceful" for Brawl suddenly get two reps in this fighting game? If you're going to count sales as a major factor to his inclusion, then you might as well declare that Wii Fit is guaranteed a second newcomer, because it's one of the best selling Nintendo products of all time.

Animal Crossing is fine with just one rep, like Pikmin, Wario, F-Zero, and Yoshi.

Well, we do have Hii Fit Trainer, depends if you view him as different character or not. We still don't know if he's just a simple costume change or if he has slight changes to his moveset versus WFT.

Seeing a female Villager costume revealed would be cool, actually. And yes, I hope we get more info on that male trainer soon.

It's one thing for Villager to use balloons, an item found in Animal Crossing, while referencing another series, but why pull such odd abilities like flight and statue-fying when that's not something Tom Nook ever does or is in any way associated with? The furniture idea is pretty good for one special, but how does that translate into an entire move set? What would Tom Nook do for standard attacks? Punch people? Compared to the Villagers use of items, that just seems bland and uninteresting.

Because the SMB3 moves fit Tom Nook extremely well considering the relationship.
I haven't though of normals, but I would imagine it would involve his broom and random merchant related moves for Tom Nook to use.

Yeah, I see it happening as a plausible possibility considering the fact Villager borrowed an element from Balloon Fighter.

The only reason I don't see Nook as likely is because he isn't that popular a contender.
There comes a point where unique characters that are relatively unpopular (Unpopular in the sense that not many request them.) reach a limit. We don't necessarily know when this limit has been reached, but I find it safer it say that is has been now. The game is going to include popular characters. And I think those characters extend outside of just Little Mac, Mega Man and most likely Mewtwo.
Animal Crossing could certainly get a second rep and I wouldn't say that it broke the limit of Animal Crossing characters. But I would say that it's a little irritating that we're not getting characters that tons of people want to see. Wii Fit Trainer is a nice character, but a lot of people want K. Rool, Ridley, Dixie, Palutena, Mewtwo, what-have-you. It's unfair to just ignore them.

And besides, Anna is better Lord Merchant.
