I really doubt Sakurai cared about how characters fared on an American tier list of competitive gameplay Sakurai didn't even intend on making.

You're agreeing with me; I said the tier list specifically did not play any role in his removal. However, I think it is possible that, had Mewtwo been this breakout newcomer favored by a large portion of the fanbase, rather than a wonky mess shunned by a large portion, Sakurai might have at least been more hesitant to cut him. Likewise, had Falco been the wonky mess, it's possible he may have gone the way of the other clones, although his importance in comparison to them still may have kept him around.

Shoo in. There's absolutely no reason for them to leave, and enough reasons for them to stay. They're pretty much locked in, they have a very unique mechanic and represent the classic side of Nintendo.

Pichu is technically the only character ever actually planned to be cut.

The only way I would truly want it back would be if it were a DLC package with the other Melee cuts. He's not worth coming back right now.

I still think they should do a "Melee Clones DLC", with Roy being the main selling point. (And, of course, everyone is a semi-clone rather than a straight clone.)

That and the fact that if the Melee vets are treated like newcomers, then Pichu doesn't fit the bill at all by being a clone.
He has one of the lowest priorities of any characters, especially in Pokemon.

And for planned cuts? May I remind you of Young Link? (He was replaced, but ignoring TL, it was a cut.)

The difference is that while Young Link was cut, he was replaced by a "successor", Toon Link, who is pretty much a clone...of a clone.

Pichu was simply scrapped.

And why would the five cut Melee vets be treated like newcomers?
If that was in fact the case, the only one who deserves that treatment is Mewtwo, due to his popularity and uniqueness compared to the others.

Honesty, when it comes to the Melee cuts, none of them matter heavily to me including Mewtwo. Not so much that I don't have a problem with them being back, just more so very 'meh' about the whole idea. Though honesty if Mewtwo were to comeback I'd say a standard reveal as a veteren is just fine, don't see why he needs a gameplay trailer specifically to him.

Mewtwo is the only Melee cut that was dreadful because it removed an original moveset. I can understand if you get rid of clones, as they were added purely to pad the numbers - I don't like it, but they are filler. Removing wholly original characters is horrible.

I'd not be so emphatic that Mewtwo is making a return, but he got two mega forms and he's a gigantic hole in Brawl that everyone complains about. It's not difficult to implement the Pokemon, he uses magic and is a psychic-type plus has a huge move pool to draw from if you don't just copy his Melee set, although it needs to be changed in my opinion. If you consider the good graces that'd come from his inclusion, more than worth the development time.

Project M shows us just what Mewtwo would've been capable of with a little more love and time. Mewtwo is one of the most powerful characters in that game and has a wonderfully unique style and moveset. I'd prefer they keep the majority of his old moveset with a few changes.

All of you can say what you want, but Mewtwo will more than likely get a trailer if he's revealed before release, simply because we've never had a vet return after being cut and that vet just so happens to be the most popular request in the world.

Although Smash has never removed and re-added a character I'm going to assume his massive popularity precedes a trailer. He may be the only Pokemon "newcomer" considering there's little else to add. Zoroark isn't setting the world alight, nor is Victini and I doubt we'd get a Kalos trainer when Pokemon Origins came out recently. The Kanto starters all got a Mega Evolution too, plus Pikachu and Jigglypuff make Pokemon have an insane amount of reps if you count unique movesets. About the only possibility I can think of, purely because he's popular and not hard to implement, is Meowth.

If we're talking about the most likley remaining three reps, it would have to be:

1.) Jigglypuff
2.) Pokemon Trainer
3.) Mewtwo

I'm quite confident that they won't cut either of the veterans, and Mewtwo is by far the most likely, and best, fifth rep.

I don't think so. He is a previous inclusion, but just the sheer size of his popularity, IMO, is enough to warrant him a trailer. Not to mention all of the cool returning puns you coukd thrown in his trailer. "Mewtwo Strikes Back!" "Mewtwo Returns to the Light."

You know, this morning I came to a startling realization...

We've seen an absolute ton of KI stuff, especially from Uprising. Items, trophies, stages, and more. This leads me to 2 possible ideas:
1. Sakurai's getting over his modesty issue.
2. Upcoming Palutena reveal? The next Direct is coming real soon and we're bound to get a newcomer, but we only get hints about what it could be close to the Direct season.

Sakurai does do alot of research regarding Pokemon characters according to the Pokemon criteria, so at least Zoroark gets a mention.
