If Super Mario RPG would've been ported as much as Ocarina of Time, you might have had a point. However, it's clear you are trying your best to justify Geno getting in too much out of your love for the character. I advice against that, as people are simply not going to sympatise with you like this.

Definitely. Sheik was fine in Melee and Brawl, but in Smash 4 when she was revealed, I was like "wow, really"? I didn't even care about Impa and I was disappointed wasn't replacing her.
At the very least they could have had Impa and then Sheik as an alt, or vice versa.

We've had 12 characters in Smash history get in off of the impact of one game and/or their role in it.
, the second of its series and the only one to get an international release. Happened 5 years before Smash 64.
, the humanoid form of the series long running villain who was put in as the last of Melee's clones.
, the other form of one of the series 3 most important characters who got in due to the creativity of a gimmick and was kept due to fanbase.
, the character of an upcoming game hand chosen by the makers to help promote it and a clone from .
, Hand-chosen by Sakurai as a character from the NES to embody a tag team gimmick and actually was around as requested as Geno in the time of Melee.
, a heavily promoted Pokemon of the 4th generation that, by nature of being a Pokemon, was going to stay with the series forever.
, chosen before his second game came out but was heavily in development and planned from the start.
, the third of its series and originally was planned to be in Melee (as a replacement for Ness) and a clone.
, chosen before his game debuted but confirmed to be a staple for it because that's kinda how Pokemon works off of Sakurai loving the design.
, a cheap cheap clone that was a promoted alternative costume and the Shadow to Pit's Sonic.
, Dark Pit with massive popularity and an incarnation of Marth.

A) Are a Pokemon
B) Incarnation of a massive part of a long running series
C) the protagonist in a recent major Nintendo JRPG who has a famous fanbase
D) And/Or are a quick clone.
E) Sakurai just loves you for fitting a gimmick amongst others a niche criteria of characters (NES characters, in the case of Icies)

Geno fits none of these. Neither does Shovel Knight, Azure Gunvolt, or a NUMBER of characters I could shoot down here.

These where beliefs I had before the final roster leaked. I know now that K.Rool and Isaac are the most widely requested characters, at least, Nintendo-owned, but I'm still not holding my breath to be real honest.

Yeah right now they should I guess, no way Sakurai is gonna patch out Sheik and add in Impa. But am hoping at the very least Impa can be a semi-clone to Sheik (think ) or an alt to Sheik. I have more confidence in her being a semi-clone now due to us getting in a row, meaning it's not that hard to create a semi-clone at all (which makes me upset they couldn't just give us or instead of ). And with the lack of Zelda newcomers, I think Zelda is one of the more likely franchises to get a "surprise newcomer". DKC and StarFox DLC characters are quite 'expected' as of now, but Zelda? Not so much. I could see them adding Impa togheter with , or maybe Dixie Kong.

He has a chance, sure (and I'd love to see him in, or at the very least, to have Super Mario RPG actually get acknowledged by Nintendo), but it's a ridiculously low one. He's owned by Square-Enix, and if they agreed to let Nintendo use one of their characters for Smash Bros., it seems significantly more likely that S-E would pick someone from one of their flagship series, like Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy. (though why they haven't sold the Mario RPG characters back to Nintendo is beyond me - it's not like Square can use those characters!)

Those are the five I would be really really excited to see in, both because I have a personal connection to their series as well as finding them legitimately important characters. No.
I was noting that he doesn't meet pre-established conditions we've seen in the characters who HAVE gotten in off of one game.
Magikarp isn't impossible either. And is probably more iconic.
