Also I omitted Mewtwo and Dedede from my original comment but I get you.

The sidekick population in Smash makes me some mad that I feel every series should get their main villain plus a top tier goon in the roster. But that's crazy talk.

Yeah, as I say, I was being extremely generous when I considered them.

If we're going by true antagonist, bona fide bad guys, there are three.

I don't support villains because they're villains, I support them because they're interesting characters.

Clones are easier to make which is why they'll likely continue being a part of Smash games. I know they're usually the least popular characters but their addition is understandable from a developer's point of view.

My problem with clones is if they're cookie-cutter clones like Dark Pit and Lucina, they don't feel different at all to me

As someone who didn't jump on the ROB hatewagon with Brawl when everyone was using him as a scapegoat, I'd be salty about Dark Pit even if we had received all the characters I wanted simply because I don't think he was a very good choice for inclusion, easy clone or not. It's hardly going to ruin the game for me, but it'd be the way I'd feel regardless of what else we got.

Pit's wings are one of his most prominent features. They take up a good 30% of his character model and are never retracted or dismembered. They are always present in every frame of his animations and are pretty damn hard to miss.

Pit has white wings. Dark Pit has black wings. The two colours are not only impossible to confuse, they are at the exact contrast of each-other. You cannot get more contrasting colours than black and white. They are the aesthetic definition of opposites.

Your comparison is ridiculously flawed.

And they have the exact same moveset.

In their default costumes. Most of Pit's palette swaps don't have white wings and most of Dark Pit's don't have black wings. Not to mention, once again, they have the exact same moveset so in motion it's very easy to get them mixed up if there's more than two players.

Well being fair, most of Pit's wings are of a lighter shade whilst Dark Pit's wings are of a darker shade, which goes for their clothes and hair as well (Well besides Pit's "Dark Pit" and Dark Pit's "Pit" colour.....)
