I can only really see Vaati and Impa as our candidates for a Zelda DLC newcomer, especially since I find it extremely unlikely we'll get any Assist Trophy playable.

Here's how it is.

is a clone of . No ifs, ands or buts about it. would be goddamn redundant because of it, he is just a what he is 'a younger Link'. Link goes through various different versions and no one wants a character who would virtually play the same anyway. does everything that can do and is much more recent and optional.

would and can be de-cloned and it would be less problematic, can be de-cloned but the characteristics of those Links would be hated because 3 LINKS, 3 FREAKING LINKS.

I have an idea (and no one has to agree) since Pichu was obviously a clone of Pikachu, would you be opposed to Raichu replacing Pichu? Think Toon Link to Young Link.

To Elaborate
& got overshadowed by to be the remainder of after Transformations were removed. as DLC makes many people doubtful that they will return. having a bit more to his grass typing to keep himself standing out.
's issue is that the person who got him INTO Smash no longer works for the people who owns his rights... and Nintendo never approached Snake as 3rd Party BEFORE DLC happened.

was flat-out intendedly replaced by . This is the ONLY time anyone in Smash has been actually replaced. The major people rallying for him is a moveset based on Majora's Mask which means that they aren't wanting him as a veteran but a newcomer using the name of a veteran.

was added as a joke that people don't have a thrive to see return because WFT is WTF enough.

had more that kept him different to than in the same game but was lost due to veteranism.

has how different he ended up being from competitively but still enjoyable as a fighter that kept him alive.

More specifically

are three takes on the same moveset. Two using the same moveset with a different blade and the third using a third blade but with some of his own unique moves.

Getting a very similar clone that is very popular in their home series as a promoted costume is not the same as a near-identical-on-every-move clone as DLC.

Chrom loves his daughter so daughter so much that he faked his own defeat so she could prove herself in battle and make her daddy proud, and he entrusts his best friend to keep an eye on her in his stead. He occasionally hops into battle to lend his old friend a hand, and to check up on (or possibly test the mettle of) his daughter.

Chrom is a braver soul than any of us will ever be.

I'm glad I married that handsome, beautiful man.

I implore you how Yink and Tink varied in how they played. Because all I could dig out is that Yink's arrows had a fire effect and Tink's D-Air propels the user downward. The differences between the two far better mirror one character's change between games than similarity between any two clones if you look at gameplay and not just the fact that Tink is more cartoony and lacks the 5 second milk drink of a taunt.

For the record. Toon, Young and regular Link carry more differences from each other in terms of playstyle animations (Toon Link relies more on his sword compared to the other two Link's due to his stubbier legs for example) whilst Marth, Roy and Lucina carry more differences from each other in terms of their move properties. Especially when it comes to regards to which parts of their blade deals the most damage. (Marth's sword relies more on the tip compared to the other two).

Just thought I'd put that out there, whichever you consider to be "more unique" is up to your own opinion I guess....

Could you please say which moves are different due to his stubbier legs? The only one I can think that involved Link's legs in any Smash was his N-Air and I can't for the life of me recall what it looks like for him or Tink in Brawl and Smash 4?

Toon Link's front-air, back-air, neutral-air, front-throw, back throw, up-smash and dash attack are all the most different from Link's (You can even make a case for his down-air which doesn't work anything like Link's down-air at all).

The front-air, back-air, neutral-air, back throw and I believe the front throw where all changed specifically for the reason of his stubbier legs as Sakurai mentioned on Toon Link's Brawl Dojo page, with his back-throw launching his opponents judo style instead.

Young Link's areals are weaker than Toon Link, and Link's.
Young Link's ground attacks are stronger than Toon Link's, but weaker than Link's.

SmashWiki says his jab combo can be an infinite, but I think whoever put that there was misinformed, because I have never seen anyone do that. But if he was able to, than throw that in too.

Every character has some fans. You need to look at the bigger picture. And most series will likely not get more than one DLC character, so even being 2nd can spell doom.

And for the Majora's Mask based moveset, pin your hopes on Roy. If he's back as is, then that idea is simply not happening.

Yeah, and why not satisfy the fans whose veteran got cut into something that can refresh his playstyle and make it different from the other Links?

I think Mewtwo has shown us that nobody is going to get jurastic....juristic....big changes if/when they become DLC. I'd be surprised if anyone but Pichu got even one new special move like Olimar.

honestly I prefer slippy. i like the guy in assualt and 64 and i would love an over the top moveset using the gatling gun/rocket launcher/demon launcher and various mechanic like things like using a wrench or somethihng
