I was joking how that I'm fairly certain Pokemon will get more characters in the future as it's the second best selling video game franchise ever

that being said however, not to hurt anyone's feelings but all the other veterans are largely unimportant. Pokemon is the second most represented franchise in the game, I don't think they're hurting in terms of being under represented.

Squirtle and Ivysaur are some of the first starters, important, and Nintendo is using Smash as an advertisement, more pokemon is actually good for then business wise

But I have to ask who did they give two mega evolutions to?
And who has been historically the favorite out of the three and has has the most air time and importance across the board?

They gave practically every Gen 1 a Mega Evolution.

But not everyone has two. Out of 721, only two have two, that's a statement.

Just to say, Venusaur has a stronger role than you give credit to by being the canonical starter of Red through the massively popular Pokemon Special running manga. Blastoise was given the least of the three.

There are more pokemon fans than Melee fans, not to mention the fact that Pokemon is the second best selling franchise helps. Would you put in an old character back in based on how much the character was liked? Because Squirtle and Ivysaur are still more popular than Roy overall

Why is it being argued ivysaur/squirtle cant be in because charizard is more important?

Pikachu is more important than all of them.

Bowser is nore important than rosalina but she is in. It isnt "well this guy is more important " its "are they good enough?"

There's Venusaur on the box art of 3 games as well. Venusaur's line got a second life through May to promote FR/LG alongside Squirtle, but Venusaur managed to be part of May's limited usage in Diamond and Pearl's anime run when even her Blaziken was not. Charizard has gotten more love overall. But you're playing off the other two of the Gen 1 starters as if they don't matter when that is certainly not the case. Frankly the Gen 1 Starts have merits and popularity that often only one if any starters from subsequent gens can rival.

It's just that in an ever-expanding roster, how many Pokemon characters do there need to be?

Come on, it's just there to have popular poké's evolve another time.

Speaking about that, it's only the fully evolved versions that get MEs, so using them as an argument that a Poké is important is pretty flawed logic.

I would be really infuriated if they wasted a spot on such an unimportant character when Pokémon already has six and have better choices anyway. As for the rest, well the fans will accept anything from Sakurai so maybe...

Character importance is a pretty flawed argument, IMO.

While popularity helps, Smash isn't a 'Who's he most popular regardless of moveset' contest.

The Smash Ballot, with no focus on numbers, should have put this to rest.

Pokemon Trainer is important to the games, but the chances of him being a fighter is low now that the transformation/switching mechanic is gone.

While Squirtle and Ivysaur has some things going for them, but the trainer itself has little to work with now that his crew had been split up. Though DukeNapoleon might have some ideas like the trainer using items like the fishing rod and bike in his moveset, or even being a summoner character with various Pokemon for attacks.

2) Frogs don't. You have no proof Greninjas don't actually have a thin coating of hair on certain regions of their body to sense moisture in the air like some species of toads.
