My Two Cents:
Taking a note from @ Johnknight1 Johnknight1 and literally saying that as long as they don't make it a clone or a lazy cop out character, I'm fine with anything.
That's my Two Cents on any character (if you add my additional incentive... they are better, easier, or more suited for a game than all other potential newcomers).
Anna has somewhat of a chance, the merchant has been noticably more prominent in FE while taking charge of the DLC, so IS may suggest Anna so she can become the true star of Fire Emblem.
In other words she's like the 40th most important character in the Fire Emblem universe, and Sakurai and co. only care about the top 5.

Nobody will buy the game just for Anna. Meanwhile, there's probably several non-Fire Emblem fans and Fire Emblem fans alike who bought the game for Ike, because he's such a draw, and because he's the driving force of good in 2 Fire Emblem games.
Why so? Is there really absolutely no chance? There is a lot she not only could, but would add if she was put in. Explain yourself! I would also argue that Anna is no longer a 'minor' character.
Because she's still a minor character. The only "major" characters are some villains and (almost exclusively) the Lords in Fire Emblem. That's it.

Also, you don't see us playing a minor Mario character like the bomb mouse guy from Mario 2 or King Bomb-Omb from Mario 64, or in Zelda the Happy Mask Salesman or like Nico from Tetra's crew. You just don't. Only in Fire Emblem among the few (and I mean very few) super intense fans do you see anyone care to "push" for the minor characters.
What about this guy?

Sure he wasn't done entirely right in Brawl (pertaining to this archetype at least), but his whole character revolves around the short and stout strong man.

Still, if Wario was more Wario Land-esk (Wario Land Wario > Wario Ware Wario), he would be better. Dat Project M Shoulder Bash is proof enough.
Or, it used to.
Eh, he was something of that, but his kind of "power" is more... well, kept to just Smash attacks. He's also got a lot of Mario in him, which means speedy attacks.
I see Dixie/Kiddy (or even Diddy/Dixie) working more along the lines of a literal tag-team. You control one, the other follows. You attack with the lead, the following Kong tags in and attacks, and vice-versa. This is judging by what is translated about what Sakurai said in regards to his initial idea.

Sort of like Sonic & Tails in Sonic 4 Episode 2.
It's true that could work, but again, there's 3 problems in that case:
1. Why wouldn't the teammate attack with you=??? (otherwise it's essentially a "transformation")
2. What happens when one dies and the other is alive=???
3. Wouldn't it just be less time consuming and easier to balance to separate them=???

Well, to be fair, she is a recurring character (/the recurring character) in Fire Emblem, which is an impressive feat in and of itself. It shows that IS likes using the character at least. If Sakurai and IS don't want another blue-haired swordsman (which is more than possible with Sakurai's adding in unique characters), then they will look for other recurring characters in the series (or Robin). That throws Anna and Tiki into the mix, since they're basically the only semi-important recurring characters, and they appeared in Awakening in fairly large roles.

And you could also argue that Naga (the Divine Dragon) and Tiki (daughter of the divine dragon and Princess of the Divine Dragon tribe) are main characters. Naga is practically considered a god among the commonfolk because of her being kind to humankind and being extremely powerful (note: I do mean it when I say "god", as they misinterpreted her gender at first). I can explain Tiki too, but it would be spoilers. Want me to? Doing it because why not.

Spoilers for Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem (from the FE wiki)

Tiki is the Princess of the Divine Dragon tribe, and daughter of Naga. Her power is so tremendous that if she degenerates, the humans of the continent would be killed. While the Binding Shield prevents this, it was stolen and broken apart by Adrah. In order to protect humanity, Naga put Tiki into an eternal sleep prior to her death and ordered Gotoh to watch over her, with orders to destroy Tiki if the shield was not restored. One day, an old Manakete named Bantu took pity on her and awakened her, taking her to the human world and caring for her, until they were separated. Eventually Tiki was brainwashed by Gharnef to fight against Marth, but Bantu snapped her out of the trance and she joins Marth, possibly growing infatuated with him. During the war she seems to befriend with Xane despite getting frustrated when he imitates her, but in fact, Xane was sent to watch over her by Gotoh.

After the battle, Gotoh took Tiki to the Ice Dragon Temple and put her back to sleep, as he noticed that more and more Manakete were slowly falling into madness and feared that she could go wild. However, she suffered due to constant nightmares about her going wild. Eventually, Gotoh entrusted her safety to Marth after he acquired the Lightsphere, which eventually enables Tiki to live freely with humans. After the battle, she takes residence in Pales.

Spoilers for Fire Emblem: Awakening

Tiki returns 2,000 years later as a priestess of Naga in Valm, known as the "Voice of the Divine Dragon". Tiki resides in the Mila Tree, where she has kept the blue gem of the Fire Emblem, Azure, since the distribution of the gems. Tiki, upon awakening, notices Lucina and mistakes her for Marth, however she is quickly corrected. Tiki asks Chrom if he has the Fire Emblem. Tiki gives Azure to Chrom to put into the Fire Emblem and tasks him with finding the other three remaining jewels to perform the Awakening Ceremony. After she talks to Chrom she notices the Avatar and senses a power that is similar to hers. However due to her grogginess from waking up, she is not so sure. She decides to stay at the Mila Tree in the meantime.

In her Paralogue, Tiki performs a ritual to awaken the powers of Naga within her at the Divine Dragon Grounds, however Risen soldiers threaten to kill her. Thanks to Say'ri, Chrom, and the Avatar, she is protected and completes the ritual, joining Chrom's army to fight off Grima. Alternatively, if Tiki gets killed during her Paralogue, the ritual is a failure and she cannot be recruited.

After the war, Tiki returned to the Divine Dragon Grounds where she slept for several days. Afterwards, Tiki would take time every now and then to visit humans whenever she could.

DLC:

In the Future Past DLC chapters, Tiki speaks to Lucina in Ylisstol to inform her that Mount Prism has fallen to the risen. Though she is shocked to hear that Lucina has sent the other children to retrieve the Gemstones, she knows that Lucina is doing so to save the world. Suddenly Tiki senses a malicious force and pushes Lucina out of the way and is killed by an unknown assailant. With her dying breath she tells Lucina to save the world and she finally expires knowing that she will be joining her beloved Marth soon. At the end of The Future Past 3, after the alternate world Avatar warps Chrom's army out of their world, alternate world Tiki informs Naga that she will take on the role of the new Naga of that world. As the new Naga of the world, Tiki accepts Lucina's will when she performs the Awakening, allowing Lucina to unlock the power of the Falchion and finally defeat Grima. Tiki sadly tells Lucina that because of her new role as the Naga of their world, she can no longer be amongst humans anymore. However she always welcomes her and the 11 other children to be with her as the heroes of their world.

Anna? Tiki? Bah, give me the Pegasus Sisters (Palla/Catria/Est). They've been playable in more FE games than even Marth (FE1/2/3/11/12/13). :troll:

On a more serious note, both Anna and Tiki are very important to the series and definitely do deserve to be represented in some form in Smash, however, I do feel that neither of them are cut out for playable status.

As a guy who supported Caeda and the Black Knight for Smash 4 months before FE13 was confirmed to be in development, I will say that the lords are the true faces of the series even if they're often not recurring.

If we don't get either of them as playable characters, I want them as assist trophies. Both of them, ideally.

(Also, this thread is so much slower than before. I think everyone's scared of the mods and aren't posting because they're worried that they'll get an infraction.)

Not sure about Assist Trophies myself (not sure what they would do), but they definitely need some form of representation. I'd love to see Anna running a shop in Adventure Mode and arguing with Tom Nook over money.

The thread being slower is probably for the best (still had nearly 10 or so pages the first day though). Makes it easier to respond with thought to posts. If it continues this way I might finally throw myself back into character discussion.

Infractions aren't a big deal, you just need to have some self control and think before you post.

It wouldn't be a transformation. After the teammate attacks, they tag the "main" Kong in regardless of whether or not the "main" Kong is going to follow up.
Essentially, it's like Rosalina and Luma, but they can't split nor can you really control the 2nd Kong.

If the "following" Kong is tagged in and is hit, they are temporarily stunned (I'm kind of basing this more for Kiddy, ironically, as I'm envisioning him throwing a tantrum like when he's hit in DKC3) and cannot be used for team attacks or be tagged in until they come to.

So to answer question 2, the second Kong can't be KO'd. And if the main Kong is KO'd...then the answer is simple. The follower goes POOF like Nana.

For 3, yes and no. Best answer I can give is another question: wouldn't the same question apply to Rosalina and Luma?

Anna would Lyn someone before making some sort of quip like "Another satisfied customer." probably.

Tiki is obvious though. Dragon. Dragon transformation. Please.

I look forward to your thoughts if you decide to stay around.

That actually gives me an idea...do you think Rosalina might have been based off of the original idea for a Diddy/Dixie tag team? Like, he added in Diddy, but wanted to mess with the idea again and see if he could get it to work, so he used a different character? It would have been interesting. Basically, it would have been just like how Rosalina and Luma do different attacks with the same button combination, but with less puppeteering involved.

It is possible. It actually wouldn't surprise me.

Well, to be fair, she is a recurring character (/the recurring character) in Fire Emblem, which is an impressive feat in and of itself.
This has nothing to do with being playable in Smash, unless you are a reoccurring major character with a major impact. Anna doesn't do that.

If we're going to have Anna and Tiki-level characters playable, then literally dozens of Mario, DKC, and Zelda characters ought to be playable, and this game featuring predominately "Nintendo All-Stars" (the main characters of big franchise and the main character of small franchises alike) because predominately "any Nintendo characters".
If Sakurai and IS don't want another blue-haired swordsman (which is more than possible with Sakurai's adding in unique characters), then they will look for other recurring characters in the series (or Robin).
First off, Intelligent Systems doesn't have much of an impact, minus when Sakurai asks for character suggestions.

Second off, they'll bring up the most recent character, which is Chrom (or Roy if a FE6 remake is becoming a thing).

Third off, if they want a character that isn't a blue haired swordsman, Roy is the way to go. He's thousands of times more popular than Anna in regards to Smash, and I'm being literal. On top of that, he's probably the most requested character not in Brawl other than Mewtwo and maybe Mega Man, and the latter is already confirmed as playable.

If hypothetically they don't go for Roy, Lyn and Hector are popular major characters with a lot of potential to be very interesting, unique, & fun playable characters.
That actually gives me an idea...do you think Rosalina might have been based off of the original idea for a Diddy/Dixie tag team?
Rosalina and Luma are based off the classic fighting game build of a character plus assist character. The best and closest example of this in relation to Rosalina is Eddie in Guilty Gear. The character idea seems like something the Soulcalibur or Tekken team pitched in for Smash to help build conceptually.
So to answer question 2, the second Kong can't be KO'd. And if the main Kong is KO'd...then the answer is simple. The follower goes POOF like Nana.
That's not how it works in DKC though. I'm usually not a "canon cannon defender", but this is where I draw the line. I mean, with any other tag team idea I'd be totally fine with that, but not a DKC tag team. It just doesn't "seem right". It just "feels" like it would be stepping on or stepping past how DKC works, which bugs me too much to mentally get past.
For 3, yes and no. Best answer I can give is another question: wouldn't the same question apply to Rosalina and Luma?
The difference is that Luma basically functions as a Pikmin, and follows the traditional "character + assist" basis, which has been in fighting games for about a decade. The assist character in this kind of situation is fairly easy to make, is generally really weak (like the Starfy AT), has simple original animations, and borrows a lot of Rosalina's animations.

@ Johnknight1 Johnknight1 , no offense to you, but could you tone down the hostility? I'm just trying to have a friendly (or at least civil) debate and your tone makes that difficult. Could you try talking like "Actually, I think that this is the case" instead of "Your point is null and you're being an idiot"? It makes you more likeable.

(I genuinely did not understand that point at the end. Grammar issues?)
Give this a read: I posted it in an edit. I'm not sure if you read it or not. Warning; spoilers for a couple games inside.

Tiki is the Princess of the Divine Dragon tribe, and daughter of Naga. Her power is so tremendous that if she degenerates, the humans of the continent would be killed. I think you're misunderstanding me. Tiki is a fairly major character. She literally drives the plot of two games. She's not just a random unit like Yarne or Owain.

First off, Intelligent Systems doesn't have much of an impact, minus when Sakurai asks for character suggestions.
I don't think we know that for sure either way, but I feel like he confirmed that he talks with all the developers about how their series is implemented. If he's not sure about how they would most like it represented, he asks.

Second off, they'll bring up the most recent character, which is Chrom (or Roy if a FE6 remake is becoming a thing).
And if he's not satisfied, he goes out and finds a different character and seeks their approval. (Honestly, I think he'd know of Chrom anyways and look for a different character to represent the series better if he didn't like him. I imagine he'd just go to IS for approval on the character he chooses.)

[citation needed] on the most requested character thing. I have seen the most recent poll for us and he's nowhere near that popular to us. I don't know about Japanese popularity, though.

And if he wouldn't want to add Chrom due to lack of uniqueness, why would he bring back a melee clone that was cut? That does not scream uniqueness, which seems to be what he's going for if the newcomers we've seen are any indication. That's basically my entire argument against Roy. He has popularity, but he's lacking in other areas.

My point is more that if Chrom is suggested and Sakurai wants to do otherwise, he'll look for the ideal character that is unique, recurring, interesting, and popular. I'm not sure where the line for uniqueness is drawn, but I personally prefer Tiki over Anna in that regard. When it comes to the recurring and interesting part, I think both Anna and Tiki are good, when it comes to popularity, they're more lacking than other candidates, but they still have their fanbases. I know that Tiki was rated 6th or something like that in most popular awakening character.

If hypothetically they don't go for Roy, Lyn and Hector are popular major characters with a lot of potential to be very interesting, unique, & fun playable characters.
And they're also one-shots that are likely never to appear outside of DLC again. And didn't you yourself say that only "recurring major characters" have a chance anyways? Why are you suggesting characters that only appeared in one game and which are in a group of three lords that are all debatably of equal importance.

Rosalina and Luma are based off the classic fighting game build of a character plus assist character. The best and closest example of this in relation to Rosalina is Eddie in Guilty Gear. The character idea seems like something the Soulcalibur or Tekken team pitched in for Smash to help build conceptually.
Good to know. I wasn't aware.

(Also, I'm really not trying to be condescending with my posts or anything. You're genuinely giving me a headache and I just want a nice discussion. Please be less argumentative. Please?)

In Japan yes. He is quite unpopular outside of Japan though, and even less popular outside of Smashboards where he is usually categorized alongside Dr. Mario, Pichu and Young Link as a clone who didn't bring too much to the table and isn't missed. Because of this his overall popularity hits somewhere in the middle, if not a bit on the weaker side.

Better off than Saki or Robin.

I would rather the potential of a Sword/Magic user go to a character representing a new franchise rather than representing a blank, uninteresting character from series that's already repped sufficiently.
Hm.
I don't want to be a N3ON-bis, but I would suggest you all should be more careful about words you choose to illustrate your opinions.
Supporters of the said characters may take them in a bad way.

Two things real quick. Why add Goku, he's technically not a video game character. Why would Vegeta be a costume for Goku? Could've gone with Gohan or Bardock instead. Though I wouldn't mind stabbing Sonic in the face as Crono. That should be fun.

Snake's return. I'd imagine that would be the case since they've worked out some agreements before. But Namco's already buddy-buddy with Nintendo since they are helping make this game. So who knows.
I just felt like it :/

Speaking of pretty Tiki, she's kind of on the same boat as Skull Kid : she appears in more than one game in her series, has significant roles, is very popular among her series' fans, but she isn't relevant enough story-wise to be a rep of her series as a whole.
(I kinda hate to say "relevant" but that is what I think)

However I would be beyond happy if she makes in as an Assist, this role would suits her perfectly.

Would rather have Tiki or Anna than a potential semi-clone like Roy.
Both could potential be popular characters, if it weren't for Melee, Roy wouldn't have been so popular. So at least give them a chance.

That's my Two Cents on any character (if you add my additional incentive... they are better, easier, or more suited for a game than all other potential newcomers).

Only in Fire Emblem among the few (and I mean very few) super intense fans do you see anyone care to "push" for the minor characters.?
Anna is integral to the series, she is not a minor character, hardly 40th in importance. In importance she should, if anything, be rated directly behind Marth due the myriad of factors in her favor, such as being the mascot, and if you're not going to be so radical and silly as me to say something like that she's right behind Marth, then at the very least directly behind Tiki, who is directly behind all the other lords of the game. But that would be maintaining with the ridiculous assumption that only Lords are considered for inclusion, and there are villains too if story is all that matters. Anna is the 2nd most important non-Lord character, I firmly believe that is weighty enough to stop calling her 'minor'. Of course, you would likely define minor as any character that is not story important. Remember as well that Sakurai and co. do not go by your standards, and that the 'top 5' are ever changing, but you do not know their difference in opinion, neither do I.

Oh, and I'm not actually a super intense fan, I'm a FE13 scrublord who had just ogled at the previous games without being able to buy them. Don't compare Anna to those actually minor character! Such comparison is unjust! Have you read that outdated and now embarrassing essay I wrote?
I would also suggest that the vast majority of people wouldn't buy Smash 4 for any one character, but I suppose that's beside your point. I just want you to know that in my roster I have Marth, Ike, and Anna, and I never proposed removing Ike in the slightest, I just think he's nigh inevitable that I don't really feel any urge to talk about him.
Besides, it's just yoooooour opinon! As you said, your two cents. I thank you for taking this time to consider mine.

Why not Mii? It's a good representative of Nintendo's Wii and it continues to be a huge part in their marketing. Not to mention it being the face of a multi-million selling series.
To be honest I just really don't like the idea of the Mii in smash. We are not Nintendo all stars. Leave smash to actual heroes and their villains. I don't like having Wii Fit Trainer for the same reason.

Tiki is a character that has appeared in 5 Fire Emblem games (as a semi-major to just plain major character). She's as recurring as Marth and is a Manakete, which is a race in Fire Emblem that transforms from a humanoid form into a dragon form with the use of a stone called a dragonstone. She was added due to me not wanting to include another blue-haired swordsman, since that would be a poor representation of the Fire Emblem franchise as a whole. Alternative choices are Robin and Anna.
She sounds interesting, but based on what Sakurai has done so far she sounds less likely. I wouldn't mind her being in though.

And Wolf or Falco I see as equally likely of being cut, personally. The fact of the matter is that three characters really is a bit much for a single series of the size of Star Fox, expecially since it's dormant. Combine that with Wolf and Falco being clones of Fox being clones of Fox being clones of Fox being clones of Fox, and either of them look like prime candidates for being cut.
semi-clone -_-

The Starfox series is popular enough in the smash community that Sakurai adds a new member each game. If anything I think that Kyrstal will be added and none of them will be cut. It's much more logical and historically based than saying that they all have lasers and reflectors, they are the same character! Hey Luigi and Mario have the same outfit and both jump and shoot fireballs, they are clones right guys?

As far as unique and important FE potential newcomer characters, Robin fits the bill the most.

No offense, but I really think you guys are overestimating Anna's chances.
I'd personally give Anna around a 7-10% chance.
And I'd give Chrom about a 70%.
Lucina maybe 25% or so.
Roy...
Eh, 20%.
Robin MAYBE 30%.
I think when it comes to FE, most people overrate characters. I for one consider Roy and Robin horribly overrated.

I'll probably rant about it when I have access to my laptop.

Not a condescending rant, but one that will hopefully make things a little clearer.

I really think that honor goes to Tiki over Robin, but he's the obvious second choice if you're completely ignoring everything but story for the title "important", which I disagree with entirely. Er, maybe not, seeing as Robin also represents the My Unit function, but Anna is still in hot contention in that realm.

Oh, and I have no illusions about her chances, I guarantee.

I'm extremely upset that Mother Brain isn't playable this time around.
Don't give up hope! All characters haven't been revealed yet.

That said, Mother Brain would make an amazing adventure mode boss/hackable character. Especially with super metroid transformation.

 I was joking, but thank you for your kindness.

It's pretty cool to see Mother Brain in her first 3D appearance outside of that one cutscene in Other M, though! Hopefully we'll get her music remixed for the Pyrosphere. -ridleying intensifies-

No love for the Prime Hunters?

It's a shame that game didn't keep the direction of the franchise.

The thing is, no one hunter is any more popular than any of the others, and they're all not even huge deals within the game itself, and the game wasn't hugely popular. The hunters would likely have some moveset potential, but they're barely blips on the radar that is Metroid's Possible Roster.

Pretty much the only two blips on that radar are Samus and Ridley.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but they are just not relevant enough to make it :/

Yeah its nice to see mother brain get some recognition since she is the "master mind" of the space pirates and a major part of Metroid history.

How have I not noticed this thread until now? Well in any case, glad to see it revived.

I'm fully expecting to see Diddy on the Japanese release date of Tropical Freeze (which is next Thursday). Or in a Direct if there's one before that. Hopefully he isn't in a tag-team with Dixie or anything.

Hm.
I don't want to be a N3ON-bis, but I would suggest you all should be more careful about words you choose to illustrate your opinions.
Supporters of the said characters may take them in a bad way.
I'm sorry, but I'm not the kind of person who will sugar-coat my words because what I planned to say might offend someone. People can be offended by anything. Going out of your way to lecture us isn't really any better.

Besides, no Robin supporter can be ignorant of the character's androgynous, anonymous feel.

I am tired of the FE debates. Chrom, Lucina, Robin, Anna, Lyn, Tiki, Roy, Ike, Marth, Maiciah and Black Knight all as a tag team transformation character for Smash.

I don't get involved because I have doubts for anyone but Chrom, and I don't want this sentiment reflected in a community that absolutely hates him.

Lucina's still better though.

We
All we need for Metroid newcomers is Ridley.
we could use dark samus as well but her chances are minimal

I'm hoping sakurai's vision is realized and diddy becomes diddy/Dixie tag team
