I'm not a fan of Snake. As far as I'm concerned, he is not a gaming legend, and no one can really contest this. His game series is the legend, not him as a character.
See, universes are generally represented by characters in Smash, so if Metal Gear is legendary enough to get Smash representation, so is Solid Snake.
If he is a character, then Lara Croft might as well be in the game.
I would be completely and utterly okay with Lara Croft in Smash Bros.

Just because you aren't a fan doesn't mean he isn't a legend. Snake is an incredibly iconic video game character whether you want to admit it or not. If you want to talk sales, MGS has sold more than Mega Man has. Metal Gear Solid is a revolutionary series for the stealth genre of games, that much is undeniable. Also, I find the statement, "His game series is the legend, not him as a character" is silly. When you think Metal Gear Solid, you think Snake. The main protagonist. The gruff voice that has permeated the entire series. The guy who is there in every game of the series, whether Solid Snake or Big Boss (Naked Snake). He brings the character to the series.

A difference between Snake and Lara Croft is that Snake has already been in Smash Bros. He's already proved himself to be a unique character that has a Smash fanbase. Both are certainly iconic characters, and I would go as far to say they're both video gaming legends.

Sure, Snake got in because Kojima wanted a favor. Big whoop. Snake turned out to be one of the most unique characters in Smash Bros. as a series.

It's one thing to not like a character. But to say that the character isn't a legend because of that is just silly.

Why would Rayman have a trophy in Smash? Just because? No one sees this as a breadcrumb?

If there is going to be a DLC third-party I suspect Rayman.

Yeah I think some people are forgetting that. Rayman has a pretty good chance when considering 3rd party characters imo.

People forget that without Snake, we might not even have Sonic, Mega Man, or Pac-Man.

Snake was the first third-party character ever introduced to Smash Bros., and not to mention that Sonic was a late addition, meaning that Snake was going to be the only third-party in Brawl.

I doubt if Metal Gear wasn't "legendary" that this would have been the case. Sakurai may have doing a favor for a friend when including Snake, but that is not the only reason he was in Brawl.

Why would Rayman have a trophy in Smash?
Because that is what the deal exactly entails. Obtaining the right to use an iconic third-party character.. as a trophy.

As weird as third-party trophies from franchise without a playable character are, Rayman having one doesn't mean anything for his chances. Him being a video game icon does.

This is also true. The developers of Super Meat Boy showed interest in him being in Smash, but Snake isn't Super Meat Boy. I mean obviously there are other issues with Super Meat Boy, but Snake is a major video game character. That's why it was an epic reveal for Brawl. "WHAT. SNAKE? SNAKE??!? SNAAAAAAAAAKE IN SMASH?!?!"

Being a video game icon could of led to plans to possibly include him which could have led to a trophy as a clue to things yet to come. We will see.

Ridley, Samurai Goroh, Isaac, Bandana Dee, and Impa (Hyrule Warriors design) would be my choices.
(Though Ridley as a stage boss, and Goroh as an assist Trophy pretty much deconfirm their chances.)

Two already confirmed characters were Rosalina (never thought that would happen) and Mewtwo (thank god for DLC!)

What I don't get is why Snake isn't back in SSB4. What happened with Konami's relationship with Smash? All I know is that he was in Brawl because Sakurai was practically begged, and then Konami didn't do something for smash or something like that?

Solid Snake was a blessing that keeps giving.

Third Party representation, the Objectivity of the Codecs (which no doubt inspired Palutena's Guidance), and humor.

Snake would be my most wanted pick if it were not for Layton.

All this talk about Icon characters is giving me Foodfight PTSD.

In other news, when the day ends without word from Ubisoft, ScrewAttack will be down another peg on my reliable source list.

Screw Attack is on your reliable source list in the first place?

I think my biggest turnaround on a character has been Bowser Jr. Was kind of 'meh' about him and all the various Shadow Mario related movesets floating around before he was revealed but ended up really digging the clown car conceit and was delighted by the opportunity to include the rest of the Koopa Kids.

I suppose I'm lucky that I don't really have many characters that I'd truly hate to see added. I mean I obviously have a couple that I'd roll my eyes at and say 'ugh' to, and a lot that I like more than others, but I can't imagine getting too mad over an inclusion.

By this point, I'm pretty sure Mewtwo is it. Asking for anything else is like asking for Mighty as an expansion character for Sonic Runners. It's a nice effort for something that would be great, but it just won't happen.

I guess Konami wanted to push Big Boss/Phantom Pain Snake for the new MGS game. So putting Solid Snake in SSB4 wouldn't be as hype for the new game than putting the much more gritty Big Boss in 4

let's be honest, if Inafune confronted Sakurai, Mighty might as well be a playable character in Smash. It all comes down to the dev's decision to implement or not implement a certain character.

You do realize I was talking about Mighty the Armadillo in Sonic Runners as an analogy right?

Mighty no. 9 was never mentioned.

No way. I just can't see Mewtwo being the only addition to the roster. If anything, they'll hold off anything DLC related for a year or 2 in order to lengthen the game's lifespan.

My theory is that they might not release a new Smash game for the next home console and instead re-release a version of SSB4 that includes all the DLC characters, stages, and modes that were released post-SSB4 into one game plus an adventure mode with better graphics/online to boost sales for their next console.

I'm gonna be honest, might no. 9 was what came to mind. /shrugs my bad

My post to Cap. Lucario
Well, I remember sometime ago where Kogima said that "If they wanted to use Snake, by all means they could." So he was more or less saying "Eh, use him or don't. just make it super hype"

again, the argument with snake is 2 fold.

1) They would need permission from Kojima and Konami.

2) Snake and sonic were test run 3rd party characters. Sakurai clearly said that after smash 4, if there were to be a smash 5 (and that's a topic for another time), that this is the last time that we'd have 3rd party characters.

Didn't Sakurai say Mewtwo was it however?
only further reiterating my point.

Smash 4 is very well done. While Smash 5 can just add characters, I feel like the next game needs to inject new mechanics into the formula.

Right now Smash 4 is perfect for adding stages and characters in the years to come.

He isn't a legend because he isn't a legend. You know what characters are in the video game hall of fame? Pac man. Mario. Sonic. Pikachu. Link

I'm still going with my theory that they'll be DLC characters eventually. Even if it takes a while, Nintendo isn't going to pass this up. Not when they implemented DLC in pretty much all their Wii U/3DS titles.
