A solid victory is a solid victory. When critiquing a video, you can't possibly attempt to persuade the player to change his strategy if it works. Rather than try to change it, try implementing his strategy in your mind and figuring out ways to improve it, find better frame traps, better options in the scenario he sets up rather than change the approach
Did you miss the 90% or so from d air water meteors? That victory was not solid by any mean of the word, what everybody has said so far accurately reflects my feelings on the matter
tbh, falling z-air (because that's the only way to connect it) gets beat out by OoS glide toss 100% of the time. This applies to the Peach MU as well. You won't see that in current videos because z-air is working (because Peach mains just love floating so much) therefore you don't see me telling other Samus mains not to z-air. When I finally see the day when Peach mains decide to just camp, then Samus mains will have to come up with a better response than spam z-air and smashes.
This is why we air dodge to falling zair, catch the nana/turnip, spam zair. With a banana in your hand, Diddy becomes HEAVILY nerfed, we lose our four standard aerials, whilst keeping zair. A very handy trade off.
But, in short, that in itself was bad advice the more experienced and comfortable the Diddy player is. Renan had little experience with Diddy and the MU so you can't expect to much.
It took Renan about 30 or so seconds to pull a Banana after pulling his first one, so the critique I'm about to give Seagull will only really be of little help until he plays better players.
Critique for Seagullllllzzzzz
Firstly I'll say, thanks for using Samus. <3
Anyway, Lets start with your approach game. This Diddy tends to walk away from you alot, and never apply consistant pressure. For this, a flury of homing missles is more then enough to tack on a good 30-40% before he starts to realise somethings wrong. You can weave in and out of Diddy's zones by letting missiles be your 'baiters' if you will. Fire a few of these bad boys out then rain down on Diddy with a couple of baby CSes to get rid of his momentum towards you. If Diddy doesn't have a nana in his hand, falling zair into more zairs is a superb punishing option. In general, approaching Diddy is a double edged sword. He'll have to play very quickly in order to avoid us punishing him with a nana, we can avoid getting pressured with perfect spacing and STILL be in a good zone to tack on more damage. If however, Diddy can successfully force us while we're grounded, it's pretty much a free 50% or so on us. He juggles floaties with blind spots like Samus STUPIDLY well, be very careful when he throws a nana, make sure you always have control over them.
On Delfino, you showed a great understanding of the stage. You played very safe for the first few seconds, then got a tad greedy with Dairs. Literally all of Diddy's options beat out our dair. He can glide toss OoS his nanas into our dair, beating it out, then proceed to juggle us around a little, try to mix it up a bit with falling uairs and UpB OoS for baiting him into grabbing us. Our UpB OoS is faster then Diddy's grab, take advantage of this approach, and make him take a good % from it. When you hit Diddy with lets say a dair, DON'T think it's safe to follow it up. With Brawl's lack of hitstun, following up with anything other then a missile or zair can lead to at least 20-30% due to a free nana lock from Diddy. This is also a warning, avoid taking good Diddy's to delfino, this has cost me tournament matches. He can easily nana lock us off the stage with little to no trouble, and have only taken mere damage when trying to get in.
The best way to play this match up truefully is to just play the ledge, Diddy can't handle planking at all, his best options are drop down aerials or nanas, both of which are easily countered.
Try to CP Diddy to somewhere like Brinstar, I find the lingering hitboxes and slanted edges really screw Diddy over. This may just be me, but I also find that Smashville is AMAZING for us against Diddy, we play the ledge BEAUTIFULLY there, capitalising on any approaches Diddy makes with the moving platform and still creating pressure. Thanks to the platform cancel, Samus can grab on the top platform and cover the ENTIRE thing, or you can use any other follow ups, since our grab is simply awful.
Hope that was of some help to you.
Oh and guys I ain't back yet, I'll probably be back tomorrow.
