Cataclysm 5 - "Melee Legends" Suggest Falco players now!

except he's saying that person must be decided before the crews start, not during by the captain. and must stay for the next crew battle if they win as well :/

except it's not more complicated, just different. and why would a captain be forced to choose outside the context of a particularly crew battle? that's unprecedented

Nothing wrong with complexities.
just as long as they are well thought out. I enjoy melee because its complex, and somehow it seems well thought out, but word on the street is that its an accident.
But I see. Yea having 1 character is prob better for this idea.
How do you encorporate the wild card, or I guess how would you pick the players for the tournament and how do you pick wild cards?

obviously i didnt mean it as a "on the spot thing" it should be like my first pick i choose m2k for marth. He has to stay marth the whole time, i choose mango for fox has to stay fox the whole time ect. Not atm while there picking in the beginning lol

I dont want ppl picking players so that they cant use another character on a diff team.
like say zhu and shiz were both picked or on the same team, but shiz is picked as fox only so that the other teams cant use his falco.
They should be picked as that character ahead of time. Zhu will play falco, not pick zhu and choose his character later. M2k would play marth.

that makes sense...each captain drafts their fox (or whoever) first, then their falco, etc, and whoever they draft for that spot must play as that character for the tourney

lol no tournament will be hed in the gym, it has more or less become the standard for cataclysm for some reason

I want to be able to enter more than just for Marth if I do this. I want to be able to enter for Sheik and Fox too, and Peach and Falcon.

multiple ganons will probably be wizard footing for those wild card spots.
will be the hardest to vote on probably, assuming the general public gets to vote for that.
how are nominations going to work anyway? people nominate 4 players and then they decide the rest of the teams? or nominate the top 8 characters (well, including the wild card) and then they team up and choose the other 6 on their team as co-captains? or people nominate the top 4 of everything and then the chosen ones pick who they think would make the best 4 captains? or is jake running this joint as an enlightened despot, and telling all the people they won't be voting since they can't even figure out this crew concept!? i know you haven't said anything concerning this yet, just wondering if you were leaning towards anything. i am going to be more excited to watch this than to participate, probably. great concept still, just very curious as to how it will come along i guess.

Well given that we have 5 months to plan and Jake and I running things I'd wager it'll run just fine. Logistically it's simple to run, putting it together is the tough part which is why it's happening now.

I actually think ganon is used enough to be considered one of the characters. Samus prob as well.
and there are enough top level players of each of those to fill up 4 squads.

Jason, you gotta actually do something with your characters for people to respect them enough to put them in a crew battle of this nature.
Maybe your falcon and peach are good, maybe top 10-5 in the nation good, but you've never put them through an entire tournament to show their merit.
If this crew battle involved ditto friendlies, then maybe your peach/falcon/whatever would make the cut
And I wanna make one of the crews a WC crew:

-Falco - Zhu
-Peach -
-Captain Falcon - SS
-Jigglypuff - Mango
-Wildcard - HugS

Just remember that this is supposed to be a crew for the best players in the entire venue of those characters, and not a regional crew.
Although, I would love to do regional crews as well but there's no way we'd have time for that lol. But just saying, there should be more crew battles in general at tournaments.

So here is the new debate. Initially I was intending on having a vote across all of smashboards to determine the top players for each character in the game. Those players would receive priority to compete in the Melee Legends Crew Battle. HugS clearly showing regional pride really tells me that the regional pride still exists (for melee at least) and I am proposing a new idea.
The new idea is that each region votes for the top player of each character to represent them in a crew battle. This way everyone is involved, it is the most fair way to determine who competes, runner ups will fill the stop if said player is not at the event. If a region flat out does not have say a peach player, they may take from another region's free agent.
Again just testing the water here, originally i did not intend to make this a regional type deal, and I appreciate everyones feedback.
