Would you say that Ice Climbers are still viable even if they didn't use the chaingrab? After all, it's not their only weapon is it? Sure, most people go "oh crap" when they see an ice climber player, but what about for friendlies? Do you continue to play the same way in friendlies that you do in tournaments or are you willing to experiment?

What if experimenting with something in friendlies could help you win a tournament some day? There will be many times where Nana will be seperated from Popo. Are you able to pull off a win despite being handicapped? Are you able to save your Nana even when she is put into danger? How do you handle an opponent that doesn't play conventionally? What do you do in a new situation like that?

Playing to win is great but I personally love playing to learn. It can help expand your horizons and help you in those obscure situations where something could have helped you win. Sure, it may not be effective but you never would have known unless you tried it. Plus you may even become known for having an unconventional playstyle. What do you guys think?

in short,

no.

yes experimentation is a plus

but IC are one of thos characters that are not viable without their grab game.

They may have weapons but they compliment the grab game, not supplement it.

A good IC works on ways to bait the opponent to get the grab or frame trap them to get it, or mindgame the hell out of their opponent to get the grab.

Considering a really good IC can 0 to death you with one grab, I don't see why they wouldn't utilize that.

3 grabs a game can potentially give you a W.....yeah, I'd work on getting those grabs.

But that's just my opinion. I dunno, maybe simply desynching your icies can lead to an even stronger metagame. But I've never seen an ice climber main not utilize the grab game.

and people change a little how they play in friendlies. they maintain the basics. but they may experiment with follow-ups/change-ups, approaches, etc.

but they're not gonna suddenly stop going for chain grabs or stop camping.

*******

but seriously Cory, I'm gonna miss you. You always made my day when we played together.

I'm gonna miss those sheik dacus races and that diddy kong stuff ;)

Hope to at least see you at Snap's if he ever hosts a smashfest or something. :)

When you have a matchup that is heavily one sided, because of certain moves that make that matchup ridiculous, wouldn't that end up making you predictable? Take Ganondorf's matchup versus Ice climbers. When ice climbers use the moves that make the matchup one sided, then the Ganondorf knows exactly what to watch out for and will develop countermeasures to avoid said move.

Same goes for any CG characters. If you play as Falco, and your opponent knows you want to grab him, wouldn't that make you really predictable? Assuming you were incapable of baiting and learning not to force the grab of course. Since your opponent knows what you want to know, he will probably just end up baiting you or making it really hard otherwise to do something else. Which means you would have to confuse him by doing something he doesn't expect, force him into the grab with a trap, or otherwise out predict him.

Brawl is all about limiting your opponent's options right? So if you know if something is coming, and you know how to counter it, you can turn your opponent's predictibleness into a disadvantage. Or maybe, if you're unsure how to do that, you can learn how to simply by playing more? Reading matchup threads and watching videos is great but if you don't practice, you won't have the ability to counter what your opponent is throwing out.

I guess it all comes down to player skill. If your opponent is able to outpredict and outmaneuver you, even if you have a heavily advantaged matchup, you can still lose. So you better get better and learn how to predict and counter your opponent's predictions or you'll keep losing. Is that right?

Dublio what you say makes sense.

However, characters like Ice climbers and falco can force an approach. It is up the the camping character to decided how to get that grab (or keep the opponent away).

In the case of ganon, all his moves have horrible ending lag. Just wait for him to do one of his moves. React appropriately, and get ur grab or whatever.

But ur right, when the opponent knows you're going for the grab, that changes how they'll play. But forcing an approach will help signficantly in getting ur grab.

cory are u drunk right now?

i doubt it

steve might have been

steve just gets under ur skin

edit:

the reason I say "i doubt it" is cause it doesn't take being drunk to get upset with steve.

In fact, sometimes being drunk is the only way to deal with him

oh lol

the whole time I thought steve was drinking. cause honestly, I didn't think he had the balls to say anything he said without being in a condition where his judgement would be impaired.

not gonna lie though, I was sipping on the rest of my grey goose the entire time that was going on :)

Man the last few pages were just dumb.

Zelda, I consider you a friend, but your post on the last few pages were kind of unnecessary.

I also think of Steve as a really good friend. And he didn't really need to be attacked over a dumb match.

Can you just refrain from posting...like the brawl community as a whole is way more immature then the melee community...

I dont have a problem with either but It easy to tell the difference with f**ktards like you posting stupid s**t like this

Notice how I said not all Melee players are douches? I edited because someone who had delicate feelings might have responded negatively to it.

I am takin the time out right now to go out of my way and apologize for any insults I have made over the last few pages. Fighting on the boards is gay and stupid, if you have a problem with see me IRL and situations can be dealt with accordingly. ZR you really should stop posting such opinions about me. Considering right now im trying to be nice. I am not a mean person, nor condescending. The last few pages is a poor show of character for all of us involved.

I really want this to end cause i really would like no quarells or awkwardness. Im sorry that your quitting smash cory. Honestly I am... I did consider you a friend way before and you know we had some good convos... I also dont know why ZR has to be so persistant on insulting me when his opinion doesnt matter to me or pretty much anyone. I want this to be dead...

@TKBRo comeone man i look atleast 17 lmao. I do not like to fight... that is why i quit MMA, NAGA in my prime when i was like 19. So ya I look forward to seeing whoever I see at duke or this weekend.

LOL yea that was a huge exaggerationg but I definitely a huge exaggeration...lmao

I'll give you 16 though...but I definitely didn't think you were older than me (I'm 21)

@313. you should have just edited out...all you do is take jabs at melee when the only reason you do it is because your scrub *** doesn't have any techskill thus making you super garbz at melee and like every normal human if you aren't good at it, it sucks.

sad thing is I'm not even a true melee player but I definitely know a good (possibly better) game when I see it.

Because its true...its not even assuming...look. at the way you act about it.

even when I liked brawl more than melee I never was like "people who play melee are f**king ********...that game is clearly inferior"

and you said it wrong. I said you aren't good at it therfore you don't like it. your sentence wording messes up the clarity of that sentence

there a bunch of things I don't like and I'm not good at it but it didn't take someone kicking my *** to realize I didn't like it..I just didn't like it from the get-go.

Like basketball...I don't like playing basketball therefore making me not good at it. but I didn't go on the courts and get smacked by good players before i realized I didn't like it. I just find the game to be boring. but do i bash other people for being good at it and then challenge all of them to MM in soccer (something I'm good at)?...NOPE.
you on the other hand played melee...prolly did bad/got scared of the learning curve, saw how easy mode brawl can be and then was like "well f**k melee"
