mango you're awesome.

on a different note, I found a really cool setup for a jab reset. at 18-like 25% against spacies, do an u throw. listen to their controller, if they try and tech the throw, do a quick u tilt. because of the 40 frames between techs rule, they WON'T be able to tech!! it's unavoidable as long as you pay attention to the sound of their controller. if they don't tech the uthrow, you can just jab reset them anyway. lol even if they DI the uthrow so that the utilt tips, you can just regrab.

I LOVE this technique. I started using it a little at alukard's no johns last sunday against awsum sean. he beat me anyway though cause I'm a noob.

lol brawl lover you're lame just leave now man you don't even know the forum rules. Get banned noob!

The 40 frame rule is this. Since you tech by pressing l/r/z 20 frames before touching the ground, there a rule to prevent you from just being able to get the tech by mashing those buttons. Say you press it 30 frames before you touch the ground. You'll miss the tech because you need to wait 40 frames before you can attempt to tech again. So if they time their tech for the u throw you can delay their fall with the utilt so it'll be impossible for them to tech. It's really useful if you aren't the best at pivot grabs. If you don't understand you can go to the DI thread in melée discussion. There's a link to it in the important threads thread stickied at the top.

But then you can't get out very much in your sentences without taking a shi.t ton of space. If you're like me you write more than you really need to when you post much like this wholly uneccesarry post just now.

I just associate Mango's typing with his Jiggs WOP. He hits you with something ( spaces you space(bars) you) then he hits you again. Mango just combo'ed half of the people in this thread with his mindgames.

I'm gonna **** Mango at Event 52. Roughly the amount of sentences in well-formed paragraphs = the amount of words in Mango paragraphs.

hitlag = (2 + damage/3) frames ; half of it when crouch cancelled.
shieldstun = (4.45 + damage)/2.235 frames

Wait, theres a difference between hitlag and hitstun? I thought they were synonyms but now I'm guessing not.

Also, will the frames always be rounded up? Since were using decimals like 2.235 but Melee runs at (I think) 60 frames a second you wouldn't be able to leave hitstun inbetween frames. You'd have to wait until the next frame right? Like you accumulate 20.45 frames of hitstun but your in hitstun for all of frame 20 until 20.99999 then on frame 21 you've left hitstun (or lag since I don't know the difference yet).

Someone who isn't too annoyed by my ignorance please elaborate I'd greatly appreciate it.

I dunno, I've seen people use both hitstun and hitlag. I use hitlag to reserve hitstun for what Brawl doesn't have. We should really standardize a system though.

Yeah, I have no idea how the rounding works. I assume that it just rounds to the nearest whole number, but that's more of an educated guess than anything. It could just go to the next whole number...

In any case, it's only a frame difference <.<

hitlag pertains to the person doing the damage..hitstun pertains to the person receiving i believe...

Hitstun is the time that a character is stunned and can't do **** (but get combo'd by whoever hit them)

Hitlag is the time when the game "freezes up" when someone gets hit. This is also when you input Smash DI.
Try hitting someone with a charge shot with Samus, it's very noticeable there.

Exactly, Mike. It's unfortunate that the names are so similar. I'm pretty sure that elvenarrow meant hitstun. Hitlag is normally only 2-3 frames and (to the best of my knowledge) doesn't depend on damage.

20 frames of hitlag from Fox's usmash is ridiculous. That would mean that the game would freeze (minus DI) for 1/3 of a second.

If it helps you keep them straight, hitlag = freeze frames. Source: http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=42749.

Thanks everyone I for one, definetly needed the explanation. Does anyone know about the extra decimal points for the frames? I'd imagine that elvenarrow3000 is right but maybe someone else knows more (not that it'll really change my gameplay or anything).

Hey Cactuar when you grab someone say....captain falcon and you throw them down which sends them behind you what do you do before you tech chase them and why?

For example: I throw Falcon down then he doesn't tech and waits for me to try to come in for a grab which at the same moment he will try to hit me with a getting up attack. So instead I come in close with a few dashdances to keep them guessing then when he starts to get up I dash away then come in with the grab.

Oh and I want to hear from Catuar not from anybody else.(please)
