Brinstar depths should be legal

I know what your thinking, but for a second just hear me out. What is the argument behind rainbow cruise being legal? it may a crazy moving stage but everything is on a set pattern, same for brinstar depths, once you see kraid in the background you know the stage is going to turn and which way its turning. And sure it doesnt have ledges but the stage is so big and unique you dont need ledges! It also makes edge guarding a more creative experience!

The last few times I played on this stage in tournaments were mid/late 2003 on the West Coast and early 2004 in Europe.

Some of the main reasons I recall Brinstar Depths being banned:
-Certain parts of the stage you can fall through and die very easily as the rotation is going on.
-Excessive amounts of stalling; think Pokemon Stadium x10. Also depending on the situation someone can get 'stuck' at the bottom of the stage, it can be a long, long wait before anybody makes an aggressive move.
-No ledges to grab. One of the reasons why Mute City has been banned for the past year or two was for this also.
-It's not random when the stage rotates, but at a lot of junctures in the match you can't actually see Kraid due to camera angles.

There actually was a thread with some discussion when a few of the much frowned upon stages started to get turned off. It's possible the thread was in the MBR though. Try searching for it.

I used to love counterpicking Luigi players on this stage :-)

essentially this
standards for stage banning would have to decrease (or increase, depending on your view point) by a great amount before Brinstar Depths would be unbanned, causing several other currently banned stages to be legalized as well.

what happened to ICG if i might ask?

a couple of reasons were mentioned here already why brinstar depths doesnt make a good counterpick, what id personally like to add is that the stage is very badly shaped which restricts your movement overall and hence a lot random stuff will be going on there except you decide to go fox, laser camp and do an usmash four times.

I play on Brinstar Depths a lot cus why the **** not?

Here's why:

-No ledges
-Stage movement causes extreme problems and at the highest points simple things like shine->shine from falco kill at 0%
-It's super super easy to fall through the stage. Like, Seel, Poke Stad tree, they happen sometimes, -Depths has it at like 40% of the matches, it just happens too often
-Kraid being there doesnt indicate when the stage moves cus Kraid is always there, it's only when he attacks it does it move, but that happens randomly and with VERY little warning

It should however be the only stage you're allowed to play on if you do Bowser dittos.

I have a question related to a few things posted before in this thread. If a player were to go to a point on the map and not engage in combat, but was trying to bait his opponent into coming into that position, mentally try to confuse the opponent by going into that position, or do something similar to that, would it be considered stalling since it's avoiding combat?

And I'm considering this to be a point on the map that is reachable by both players, so there's no reason the opponent couldn't go to that position to engage in combat with the other player.

Stalling != avoiding combat

Stalling = Making it impossible for your opponent to ever hit you.

As long as they can reach your position it should never be considered stalling.
If they dont attack back and are not working towards a specific plan of attack then I would say its stalling

The other person obviously isn't approaching properly....

And what Grim said.

Anyway as an example, say there was a platform the size of one of BF's platforms under FD, it wouldn't be stalling to stand on this platform, even though it makes it almost impossible to approach, it's just really good camping.

Which is basically what is on Brinstar Depths.

You also have the wrong definition of stalling.
Stalling in smash is making the game unplayable, running away from your opponent isn't stalling in that sense. (making the game unplayable, e.g. sing lock with Jiggs, wobbling over 300%, are the only instances of stalling that should be banned)

Thanks fr clarifying this for me. Since I couldn't really find a specific answer to what constitutes stalling, I was always under the impression that avoiding combat for long periods of time was stalling. Which I thought was kind of a stupid rule and thought that only techniques that made it impossible for the other person to engage in combat with you should be considered stalling. So I'm glad that was cleared up for me.

Looks like someone's jealous here.. The truth waits for no one.
Yes, I'm definitely jealous of what is equivalent to fortune cookie readings, stop embarrassing yourself, it's not insightful it's just annoying. You're not a warrior, you're a white guy who plays smash brothers melee and is good but also and likes to pretend he is mighty, you're just stroking your ego when you post and act like this. If someone wasn't as good as smash as you and they did this people would tell them to shut up, but instead you just have your circle jerk go:

"kage you so amazing when u say stuff like 'the warrior's path is ever improving, stride for the hardest door to knock down' I r inspired"

Think about it.

Alright let's break this down shall we?

Well first off, you must not have kept a track record of my postings here since what I can do here is at least try to inspire people to go towards their dreams instead of being in a sea of despair for the rest of their lives. People forget their dreams.. that's what I've observed multiple times. However, do you have the courage to go through everything to achieve something great? I also want other people to feel what I've been able to feel through smash.. the glory of life and the good times. It's not a feeling that I can describe but all I can say is it feels amazing for a long period of time.. who doesn't want that honestly?

I also have been through that phase as you mentioned that people thought I was annoying at first, but I don't give a **** because it's my dream to be a warrior in life and I won't let random people or even my friends downtalk my dream.. these words mean nothing.. and look what I've been able to achieve where I am now. It's awesome!

So ya it looks like you've completely closed yourself into the possibility that there just might be something great out there.. And let me tell you that there's tons of things that's super awesome. As I see it, if you deny the possibility of something then you reduce your potential because you won't even try to look into it. I'm well aware of my own powerful ego, thanks... on the boards I'm usually being epic but this post I'm being serious. Humility is a good tool to reduce the ego and when I'm being humiliated then it's a good time to reflect on my weaknesses and see the truth as it is, that's how I roll.. being a warrior is a lot of different things my friend.. I hope this clears up a bit of stuff.

Being a warrior in life, what are you 12? It's like you haven't actually experienced the world and believe that shouting out pseduo-inspirational messages does something. The fact that you limit your ramblings to this forum is because no one wants to hear the drivel. How can you expect to inspire someone over text, especially when it has nothing to do with a topic. I couldn't care less if you blog about your "spirit" but don't post it in threads that it has no place in.

You say people are in a sea of despair? You're so full of yourself, to think that if people don't subscribe to your "philosophy" using that term loosely, of being "a warrior lul I pley smash and am large so i'm a warrier k i haz spiritz n stuff!" It's just arrogant and dumb of you to think that.

If you actually wanted to inspire people, this is the wrong way to do it, when I talk to a my professor about graduate school in mathematics, I'm inspired to keep pursuing my goal of PhD. When I see Dr. PP give Armada the business, I'm inspired to play Melee. When I see Rapha and Cooller duel I am inspired to play Quake. The only thing I'm inspired to do when I see your posts is to keep scrolling.

I wonder why people downtalk your dream? Probably because it's not how logical intelligent people express their emotions or goals. What you're writting is essentially masturbatory posts. You're the only one who truly gets anything out of it.

Doser, the one that's being arrogant and dumb is you. If the man wishes to be a warrior in life, let him and stop being a ***** about someone writing something that in fact is related to the topic and that in fact is trying to help others. Instead, please clarify how ranting about someones post being "written at 7th grade level" and oh so unrelated is any less spam than something that is indeed, as mentioned, related to the topic and trying to help.

Say what? I'm not forcing anyone to do anything... like I said all I can do is try to help with my experience that has been acquired through out the years because I feel that it needs to be done. Well it looks like I can't "inspire" you because you won't allow yourself to see any truth that I could be talking about. I've traveled to multiple places just for smash and my friends that I have encountered.. like I said it's awesome and will continue to be awesome. And yes this dream I have has been since childhood. I believe you should treasure these dreams because they are pure and have not been influenced by anything. What's to say I can't use what I've learned in smash in life? Obviously not you.

Let me ask you this, do you want your life to be simply.. Work, eat, sleep.. repeat? **** no.

I never said force in my posts, if you want to help people this forum is not the place. The truth that you are talking about is cliche, it isn't original. I know how to pursue goals and so does everyone else with half of a brain. You're just repeating stuff every motivational speaker says, and worse at that. You're simply a bad parrot that feels the need to spam these boards. Stop it.
