FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Question: Is it possible to flip stage pieces?
Answer: No, and it will probably never be possible.

Question: Is it possible to stretch/shrink stage pieces?
Answer: Not yet, but that's probably the next thing to be added.

Question: Is it possible to modify the background image?
Answer: Yes, but not with the BSS, you need Gecko OS (An App for the wii) and the File Patch Code, you can learn more on this here.

Question: Is it possible to modify the color/texture of stage pieces?
Answer: Same as last answer.

Question: How do I delete a stage part?
Answer: Left click, then right click.

Question: How do I quickly add the same piece over and over?
Answer: Right click, then left click.

Question: Can this brick/damage my Wii?
Answer: No, the worst thing this can do is freeze your game, and only if you have too many pieces or open the stage with the Stage Editor in-game, in which case just hold the power button for 7 seconds and the Wii will reset, but no permanent damage will be made.

Feel free to add more common questions, I don't check this thread that often.

My question wasn't texture hacking brawl, just this program,

my textures are already in brawl (stgedit_02.pac) I just thought it would be convenient to have a feature that will allow you to import textures to replace the ones that stage studio uses

It'd help making stages in stage studio (when using custom textures)

-------------------------
Also it can't change the music

Then make your stage with BSS and hex the file it outputs to use your stage theme.

ok i made the stage and got it on my sd card but it wasnt there when i uploaded it
Make sure you have it in the right place. It should be in the directory X/private/wii/APP/RSBE/st.

themnot, do you mind me sending that FAQ to Xane?

How can I make walk off edges on the left side of the stage? Can I at all?

EDIT: Not sure if this has been pointed out, but I noticed that you can't save a stage if it has punctuation in its name.

You can only make walk offs on the right side unfortunately.

Amongst others...being able to save a full sized screenshot of your stage or use it as the stage preview image like Brawl does...
not sure if it's been said yet, but if you don't use the beta block, you can just use the in-game stage editor, change something simple like the name or a 1x1 block, and the game will do that on its own

When can we be expecting the next patch? I wanna stretch some stuff! (p.s. it should be noted that I looked over the thread and could find nothing on the subject.)

p.s. I apologize if this turns out to be a double post, my computer did some refreshing and "back"ing while I was in the middle of typing the message, so it may have glitched.

If you want to stretch, get a de/encryptor and a hex editor. Please standby for the notice that he knows when to expect the patch. The notice should be announced a day after he releases the new patch.

Thanks Xane. Maybe this will cutback on some of the spam in this thread.

Cool, if you guys could do this I wonder if you could make replays .bin files into playable video on the computer. :D

I much rather have that then this.
Just to clear a few things up. First of all, there is a way to get replays onto your computer. It's called a capture card! The only way to get the videos from the wii to your computer is tape it using a capture card or other device. (you could just physically tape the tv with a camera but it would have bad quality). The reason for this is because the replay is a piece of data that tells the wii what to make the players do, not an actual video.

Second, there has been a lot of discussion over what people want the stage studio to be able to do. Basically, the stage studio can only control options that are controlled by the stage builder in brawl. Some things in the game are controlled by the game itself, and others are controlled (and limited) by the stage builder in brawl. The stage studio only has the power to overcome the limits that are controlled by the stage builder. Here are some things that can and can't be controlled by stage studio:

Things that are possible with stage studio (controlled by in-game stage builder)

Where blocks are placed
Number of blocks
Theme
Music
Settings for Blocks (size: 1,2,or3, direction: left or right)
Name, comments
Image
beginning spawn points

Things that are not possible with stage studio (controlled by game)
Textures
Where items spawn
Not-in-game music (your own songs)
Shape/rotation, direction of objects (making objects bigger or smaller than limit, flipping up and down or rotating)
Types of blocks (other than the ones included in stage builder*)

*the exception to this is the beta block, but only because it was originally in the game but never added to the in-game stage builder

Hope this helps. If anything is incorrect or you can add to the list, just quote and continue.

Is it possible to add ledges to sloping blocks? Or to take away ledges from regular square blocks?

The ledges are part of what the game programs, not what stage studio (or the in-game stage builder) programs. The only way to modify ledges would be to use a hacking program like Homebrew. ("ledges" was referring to places you can hang off of, right?)

Yes

you can take off ledge grabbing by placing 3 blocks in the same space ^_^
1 place
2 reverse then place
3 reverse then place once more

You can add a grab to grab-able blocks only,
even when they are covered with a slope or another block

1 place a mid slope platform over it, or a block over if its a bigger block

[I found lots of these cool little things only able to do in stage studio]

I was listening to the OST and thought of something

Can the feature be added:
While choosing the song used by the custom stage
it will play that song from the ost folder
to be placed in that dictionary (self-added)

PS this also helps if you use custom tracks ^_^

I think that the reason Xane eliminated song preview was that it would make the file too large, thus making it a hassle to download.

Also, if you found out ways to solve these problems with ledges, would you mind making a bit more detailed account of how to do so? For example, it might be clear to some, but not to others, and certainly not to all, on how to remove ledges from regular blocks and to add ledges to slopes and other non-grabbable blocks.
Thanks!

Xane might even benefit from this, and be able to put it in his FAQ along with how to make walk-off stages.

Just in thought

I heard stretching had limits
even with stretching would grabbing ice ledges work
even if it does doesn't that change the ability to slide off the ice

idea: can the feature be added to move the entire map down up left right

something everything is too low or high or off to the side
its gets harder when you have overlapping things so it sounds logical
hmmm...

You can move the camera with the WASD keys if that's what you're talking about.

not really
thats nice to know though

I mean moving all the pieces on the grid,
like all pieces jump one grid slot left
(but with all options up down right left)

My bad, that would be a pretty cool feature. It's definitely a hassle to move lots of pieces sometimes.

Can a stage name be longer than 16 letters? Or would that crash Brawl? そうですねえぇ。。。

I wish the limit of blocks was infinite.

can you atleast increase the limit? I wanted to add more blocks.
I don't think it would do much good since the game probably only reads the first 255 blocks in table of items. And even worse, the game may not have a terminating symbol and it would make it overflow into other data sections.

Just a note, and this only applies if you're making an enclosed box stage, but if you resave it in Brawl, then the game will automatically move the spawn points outside of the box.

What could you possibly be making that requires more than 255 blocks?
