Best Way for Sonic to Counter the Tornado?

I keep losing to tornado spammers on the AllIsBrawl Ladder and I'm rather sick of it. Admittedly, Metaknight is one of my worst match ups even when he isn't using the tornado at all. That sword just seems to slice through each and every one of my attacks. So far, I've found a few helpful pieces of knowledge that you all probably know, but just in case I'll say again, but I'm hoping that you all have some other gems of info to help me topple these things.

Most Metaknights users are afraid to tornado near the edges. The more skilled ones won't be afraid because they are smart enough to not suicide. If you can't do anything else, then at least run and hide near the edge. Running IS what Sonic does best after all

You can footstool the top of the tornado, if a Metaknight tries to come up from beneath you, then you can footstool any part of the top of the tornado.

A wellplaced dair can go through the middle of the top of the tornado and strike metaknight without getting Sonic hit at all. This is a little dangerous since the metanight probably wont let you enter his tornado that way especially not more than once or twice.

Bait and punish. I also hear dropping a spring works.
Yea, If you drop a spring on top of him. Dair works as well. I think theres a chart somewhere that shows all the moves that beat Tornado. You could always shield it too. If he's close to your head though, angle the shield up.

I also heard if you're caught in it, Smash DI up.

Edit@SonicX: Dodge isn't long enough to avoid the whole Tornado. I think Tenki once got a jab to cancel it, but I would never RELY on it. You can't GRAB MK out of his Tornado...

Dair, fsmash, a well spaced bair, ftilt. A lot of moves actually knock him out of tornado if spaced correctly it's just hard to do so due to the fact it's pretty fast.
Homing attack can work.
The move sucks though, never use it, ever.

its fast and its movement is very fluid, so he can move back and forth to eff with your timing.
all the things rooooy said require perfect spacing and timing, and all the ground options can be negated if the mk rises slightly above the ground.
its a gay move,

with sonic, my best option is if i have the room, just run away, because sometimes you can run back if you predict the ending well enough, to punish it witha grab or something

dropping a spring works sometimes, but it only seems to work once or twice before a metaknight player goes "oh he just went into the air, bet theirs gonna be a spring" and just moves out of range and waits for you to land.

usually i end up going with the option prescribed by da k.i.d.

I didn't know that smash DI-ing UP was the best way out though. That will come in handy. It was getting really frustrating trying to DI to the sides.

I didn't know that the ftilt could beat the tornado, but I rarely ever am able to get the fsmash or bair to do it. Any time I tried for a grounded attack, they would just aim for sonic's head. Sonic's lack of priority is so ********. Why does snake's ftilt and up tilt have a reach thats 3 times his body length and sonic gets nothing even when he's doing a up or down smash? Sakurai and his minions need to be disposed of before the next Super Smash Bros. is created.

What ROOOOY said.

I usually avoid the whornado, the punish MK in his free fall state. I really dont understand why people get the temptation to try to counter MK's tornado.

I lost my last tournament to a MK who just spams tornado and shuttle loop. (Trust me, he's insanely good at the spacing and approaching with the two moves, it's ridiculous.)

Running to punish the lag from a tornado does NOT work on most occasions, unless you're insanse enough to get too close to him and eat a dsmash/shuttle loop.

Fsmash gets through tornado, but make sure the fist touches MK, or else your punch will just clank against the tornado. Tenki algo suggested using spring, and it's actually a good idea. Doing so makes them accidently whiff into an unexpected sideB, and leaves them open for punishment.

You can use bairs if you're slightly above them and they're coming toward you at a rising angle, so long as you're above and slightly to the side of them so the bair hits the top. I do think you will get hit, but only once or twice before the bair connects.

Any attack from directly above the tornado also works.

However, good MKs will never approach you with tornado from below, and their spacing is painful to attempt a punish.

The videos that will be uploaded soon will be proof enough of that (at least on my part).
