The first time I played it through I didn't realize it, but the music blends in perfectly with the atmosphere and action that's going on (think about the Regenerators). I kind of feel that the best game music fits so well that you don't realize it.

Also, I agree with the RE4 music having great music (ex: infiltration and the ending credits). I think generally the RE series has some great tracks. It just may not seem that way.

I'm partial to Kid Icarus' music myself. But the Mario and Zelda themes are right behind it. I would say definatly the best music is old NES and GB music. The usic on Super Mario Land was surprisingly good.

Thank You Final Fantasy for trying to incorporate symphony into your games...I loved this approach, or Square all together period, they are Top Tier without a doubt. However, one of the best music video games in my opinion has got to come from Street Fighter...I love Ken's Theme Song, Guiles, Ryu, Vega's...the list goes on.

I really like alot of the older fighting game generations fighting theme songs, ever listen to Kazuya's them from Tekken2, that's pimp. MGS also deserves a mention, Zelda's Main Theme..Priceless! Too many to mention actually.

in the wind waker they had awsome music. i might be just saying that because i liked the game so much it made me like the music a lot. brings back memorys of the game when ever i hear anything kind of like the music played in wind waker. IF YOU YOU DON'T HAVE THE GAME THEN GET IT AS SOON AS YOU CAN!

Part of the reason people like the games they do is the music. Think of all your favorite games... they have some pretty good music don't they? Some people don't realize it but it's an essential element that makes a game great, and gives you that distinct feeling as you turn the game on.

...Either that or it's just me. I'm crazy for music.

I cannot BELIEVE only one person has mentioned Castlevania. Castlevania music rocks. There's Vampire Hunter (or is it killer?) the main theme, there's bloddy tears, there's just loads of excellent music (I just don't know the names for most of it). One of my personal favorites is the Catacomb song from Circle of the Moon (GBA).

If you preorder Portrait of Ruin, the next CV for DS, you get a CD with classic CV songs. I think I'm more excited about that CD than I am for the actual game.

I agree wholeheartedly with pretty much all of the other stuff that has been mentioned, but I thought Castlevania deserved some more credit :-)

I think my favourite OST would be Phantasy Star Online.

From Seeing The Rough Wave and Crazy Program and Secred Of Rough Wave and Digital Haze and Jungle - Part 2... Seriously, even the other ones were awesome.

I liked Shadow of the Colossus music, and Shadow Hearts/2, they're all good.

SERIOUSLY! Some game music is just... godly. <3

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - ... Crap, I forgot the name of it. LMAO! XD It's the one when the Castle's upside down... like, when you're going down the ClockTower. Man... I loved it so much I learnt how to play it on the Piano. XD

I found the music for Wind Waker to be fantastic all around. I really can't think of any game where I enjoyed the music more. But then again every Zelda game has great music. Final Fantasy 1 and 2 music always brings me back to my childhood. And Phenandra Drifts in Metroid was beautiful.
