Smash Hero
i bought a lil tube TV yesterday, so now i can mess around in melee stuff again
(i couldnt stand playing on HD lag)
anyways, on to the technique. I was just hopping around for like an hour doing moves and noted some stuff.
EDIT: Lol i said way more than i wanted to, so i tried to organize it to make it easier to read. (sigh... still looks like a kirbykaze post):embarrass
Timing:
first, the quickest most efficient timing i find is to shorthop, at the top of the shorthop, fair THEN fastfall. If u hit both sticks at the same time it will not consistently autocancel. Hit cstick then down at about the same time but in that order.
This will hit fox in the face at a medium distance about half the range of the max range fastfall fair. and can connect easily on shields from a bit farther away.
i have known about it but personally never used this cuz i felt the tradeoff for more ground range for a little bit more lag was worth it. But now i feel otherwise.
alternate timings include delaying it past the peak of the shorthop slightly and not fastfalling at all, just retreat it backwards.
Additionally this works well in conjunction with a full-hop. AT peak of fullhop fastfall first then cstick. Similar to the shorthop timing just switch the order of the sticks. This hits about the same spot and autocancels.
Uses:
I noticed niho and Cj do it alot when i was looking through those matches a few weeks ago.
the first few clips here: (skip to 2:57)

first he spaces an autocancel fair on top of a shield, then shffls again.
the next clip, he autcancels fair then dash-dances away from a dash attack into a grab.
just playing with my friends fox yesterday, i would purposefully whiff with an autocancel fair and i was able to kick him in the face with a ftilt or dsmash out of his dash dance grab attempt.
This made for a very easy approach against nairs, hed be scared to challenge the fair but its hard to punish even a miss and it makes it easy to get inside.
The fullhop version works very well too and is a good complement to the FH autocancel nair. whereas nair has to be started slightly earlier (i.e. calling a jump), you can use this without commiting to anything on the way up. So far its been good in conjunction with full hop needle approaches. You run into a full hop charge spaced so that you could hit them dashing away. If they approach you, you store, fastfall autocancel fair.
More possible applications
i was thinking it may be possible to autocancel fair way inside a shield then be able to dash through the shield similar to the marth tactic. I am not sure if this is viable yet.
i was having alot of fun just spamming autocancel fairs into other moves really quickly. Like more autocancel fairs, or into an instant full jump wall of fairs. autocancel fair to usmash has a good beat to it
im thinking i could slowly eliminate the need to lcancel from my game, and become close to unpunishable on stuff
