Venue fee + Free For All Tourney = 5$ = ****

If I lived in NJ, I would definitely go to this. Free FFA is pretty ****, take advantage New Jersey!

Nope. No free FFA = :|. Good lawk though.

why don't you use the SBR recommended ruleset instead? These rules are horrible and nobody will want to play with them. No grabbing the ledge so others can't, what the hell is that? It's part of the game and is a completely fair tactic. Not to mention it guarantees Sheik's safe recovery every time. Plus why one character for the entire tournament? Characters have bad matchups which is why people have secondaries. If you want a decent turn out just use regular rules.

It seems like you're not very familiar with the community. I doubt many people will show up with the current ruleset. No edgehogging, no counterpicks, ffa over teams, fd only first round, and the stage list would definitely turn people off. No glitches? What constitutes a glitch? I'd recommend using these rules.

For Singles, I'm using the SBR Melee rules!

As for Free for All, TBD

I'd get rid of free for all in favor of doubles. Also If you are serious about this tournament i'd put the date in the thread title. <_<

Yep, the date's taken care of. Regarding on FFA, I'll consider Doubles based on players' choice

FFA?
I love FFAs!

Can items get turned on too please?
All items on high.

Nah, but no joke, it seems as though he just didn't know at first... It seems fine now.

It seems that there's a debate between doubles and FFA. As mentioned before, players decide!

Doubles preferred. Than just have FFA as a side event later, but I'm sure people would rather have a different side event, like character-ban tourny, or low-tier tourny, or some xbox game tourny lol.

Also maybe you should start tournies earlier, that way more can be done. Hopefully you'll be able to run the tournament smoothly regardless.

It's definitely Double Elimination Blind. Placement will be solely based on the number draw.

I'm bringing the 8 TV sets and the Gamecubes.
Okay. Just making sure Frank didn't promise you TV's that were already there at the venue. Seeing how those are our TV's and are no longer at the venue.

Most ppl know how to get to this venue already also seeing how we've ran multiple Melee tournaments and Brawl tournaments here.

So are these LCDs or CRTS? I am curious how you deal with lag? You do know about lag right?

The TV are the standard conventional ones (e. g. NOT the flat panel ones!). And yes, I have all of the TVs.
It's usually unlikely that some kind of lag would happen on these sets. Had them for a while and hardly had any issues.

Keep in mind that these TVs are all in variable sizes and brands so I'm working out which TVs are too small or any other issues that may occur.

an important question that has yet to be asked..

how is the payout?
As for the payout, I'm more leaning toward these numbers:

1st: 70% of the pot
2nd: 25% of the pot
3rd: 5% of the pot

Let me know what you guys think!

Tiebreakers, if it occurs, is a 1 round match between two opposing players. Same rules.

In addition to the top 3, they have an option to get their photo taken stating they are the champ or something similar.

Last but not least, they will be a dream match where the winner of this tournament will face:

The FFA Smash Bros. Melee Champ at Nintendoworld (The Rockerfeller location)!

And yes, it's a guarantee that the Champ will be here! Special prize will be given whoever wins this Dream Match! (Same Smash Bros. Rule)

Question, who is your target audience? Do you see this tournament as more for hardcore tournament goers, or more for casuals. Because it seems like this tournament is more directed toward casuals.

Definitely the casual crowd. It's a fact that most hardcore gamers would focus on the bigger events and prizes.

Melee is mostly ( if not all ) Hardcore players or tournament players. You should of done this with brawl since its the newer game.

^ I agree

Also, smashboards is directed toward the hardcore/tournament level players than it is casual. GameFAQs you might be better off getting some interest in casual. But the only ones who would see this are those interested in tournament level play, which is why everyone who posted here suggested you change the ruleset.

Those who are 'hardcore' don't always go for bigger tournaments. The Saffron City tournaments we run (at E-Spot) are Melee tournaments, but attract a smaller crowd and are regular ruleset run, but they are small because people locally (within tri-state mostly) use them for training and to improve their skill set for larger/national tournaments.

Basically, it's going to be hard to attract casuals here for a casual-type tournament, honestly there is no incentive.
