I picked Melee for this event since nobody wanted to lend me their copy of Brawl or even a Nintendo Wii. Also didn't want to bother anybody else since I had issues with gamers bailing out on me promising they had a Wii and Brawl.

As for the gamers, you have a point. Though I seen tournaments (TooManyGames, Otakon, Animenext) in conventions playing Brawl, there wasn't any hookups for Melee.

Pretty much, I'd assumed that the hardcore gamers focused on the latest games and leave the old ones behind.

Also giving you guys a heads up that I may possibly reduce the TV sets down to 5 due to possible security issues and other factors. If this bothers you in any way, let me know!

Completely untrue about the newest games. Yes, Brawl has a large following. But there a lot of people who dislike the game and still want to play Melee. There is a very strong Melee following still, the most recent largest Melee tourny had 300+ entrants (Pound 4 in Jan) and even more recent, Apex which had 220 entrants. You def. shouldn't go by what conventions do, Melee had two set ups at Otakon/Brawl had 4, but Otakon does a good job in catering to everyone alike.

There is such a huge difference in both Brawl and Melee (game-wise) which is why Melee still has such a large following still.

If that's the case, I'm still glad there are old-schoolers like us!

Yes, we all tried brawl, and didn't like it as much as melee. Brawl can be fun, but not as a show of... skill. It might be now in a different way, though.

I can't usually play tournaments regularly because there are none for melee, which is why I'm going to start running my own.

wtf...how?? CoT4 was all Brawl, no Melee. And the only Melee players that were there just solely went to play Melee friendlies in a corner.

Melee players don't play Brawl because it's sucks to them and find no fun in playing it competitively.

lol how does that make any sense? By that logic, half the Brawl community should've been turned off by Brawl in that it was THEIR game that had the problem.

Simply put, Melee players do not play Brawl because they don't like it. I'd love to see how many Melee heads really quit Brawl because of CoT4 lawl.

Well looks like no one's going so imma sit this one out. IMO you should leave hosting melee at this venue to crismas/alex strife, they know how to run it and can generate more hype. Your just wasting the day/venue for when they could be holding a real tournament. Once you become more aquainted with the melee scene I'd try again, but for now I think its a bad idea.

Just to let everyone know that I'm gonna need five more copies of Smash Melee for this event. Currently have seven but willing to get more. First five players with a Gamecube and Smash Melee gets a $5 venue discount!
