My name was brought up when deciding SoCal's PR/honorable mentions.
Needless to say, whenever I place at a tourney (most) if not all of the PR were at a larger tourney. (Not to say there weren't good people at the tourneys... I've had to beat Dao... who recently beat Haze...)
Just when the PR show up, I keep losing to DSF, and I need to get over losses faster. It impacts me in losers and I play poorly. :/

I'm one of the better melee players in New England :D.
But I lost to Mango in pools at the last two MA tournaments so I keep getting second in my pool thus giving me a worse bracket and making me be stuck at 9th.
So I guess my point is Mango is an ***.
But yeah some of the mods play smash, I know most of the EC Mods seem to play melee and are quite good.

But placed 7th at @M about 5 years back and usually end up about 10th lately (except last time when I got unexpecdedly CG'd by IC's! Johns! Johns!) when I got knocked out pretty **** early. Teams are where it's at.

KB & Chaco, you guys should attend some tourneys. They don't have to take up too much time, and you get to meet a lot of cool friends. 8)

I used to be super competitive in Melee tourneys since 2002 until I retired in late 2006.
It was only last month that I decided to do it all again and the reasons being:
1: Armada.
2: Lambchops moved here and lives 10 minutes from my house. =D

I wouldn't say 'few,' because there is a good number of moderators that still play competitive smash. However, a large portion of moderators watch over one Brawl character room, and in that respect, they don't have to be competitive players; they simply have to be intelligent, respectful people who know a decent deal about the character and are online a regular amount. It is the same with moderating regional zones; you don't need to be on the power rankings list for your region, but you simply have to be respectful and online a large amount (being respected, or at least known in your region helps, but there are a number of mods per region). Another large portion of moderators (and administrators) have been manning that post for a long time now, and while they don't currently play competitively, they used to play competitively.
I would have been at a melee tournament (TO5) this last weekend but I was invited to a football game by a new group of friends that I want to get to know better. I can usually count on my two hands the number of tournaments I go to per year.

back in 2005 it was worse than it is now. With JV as an administrator, they seem more tempted to give modship to people who knows what the smash series are about.
