Hi, I often have problems in approaching with kirby in general - I am too predictable, I guess.

Do you have some hints in being not so predictable, e.g. some not-so-obvious ideas to mix in my moveset or sth?

Not much Kirby can do.

Here's an example of a common mixup a lot of Kirby's do. First they do a dashing shield into the enemy. The only way the enemy effectively defeats the shield is by grabbing. So once the enemy excepts another dashing shield later on, you instead do a spot dodge which counters the grab and gives you a free hit. Basically if you need to try and think for yourself a mixup is generally something which defeats the enemy's counter to one of your most used options.

On taller people Kirby does have more options in terms of approaching. Learn to be able to SH fair and autocancel. The timing is really tight but the move is beautiful especially if you space it well. It's great against opponent shields and you will have enough time to DI back and if you have to, spotdodge immediately.

Then you have the obvious options like bair, dash attack and dash grab.

With Kirby you want to bait people as well as approach them, but especially if they beat out your options. A good mix between approaching an opponent and baiting them is a key to success.

run through your opponent, spot dodge and then short hop>bair.
Maybe that might work.

The most common way to approach with Kirby is to SH B-Air, Dash Attack, SH F-Air, and Dash Grabbing is good, but don't let it be predictable and let your opponent get you in the ending lag.

Mix your attacks let him/her come to you.

The best way to approach with Kirby is to somehow force them to approach you. Kirby approach=FAIL.
Meh, they aren't THAT bad... Once you try approaching with Ganon you start to appreciate Kirby's approach options...

However, it is best if they approach you. Here's some ways to bait attacks/approaches:

-run towards, then away (mixing it up with DAs from time to time so they don't see it coming).
-random SHs, and some SHs towards them, with a AD'd SH back (mixing in some BAirs to keep them guessing).
-Running shieldgrabs (I'm not sure if wat I mean is what Gonzo means or not... I just run at them, shield, then grab though I'm always holding the same direction (not sure if that changes anything).).
-Random FFed Nairs (ACed) aimed at nothing (Doesn't work against most people, but some don't seem to know it ACs, or forget, and run straight into the next attack.).
-Random FC (people tend to run at you after shielding the shockwave, just make sure you're far enough away that you aren't giving away free damage.).
-Random Inhales (Bad idea, but it sometimes work. Inhale to make them approach, then stop as they come and hurt them.).

(Yeah, I know I put random "insert move", but how else can I say it? It works. If it's unpredictable, they don't know what to expect, and those are some ways to stay unpredictable.)

Although his approach isn't too great, it's not ****. =/

Dash to shield grabs and throwing out a bair is nice, along with retreating fairs. It's better to space them if they are playing a character who doesn't out space you, and force them to approach.

I'd say Kirby's foxtrot is decent at baiting. It's certainly not as intimidating as Diddy's when he's going back and forth with a banana in his hand. But the low ending lag on his fox trot makes it not as punishable and can easily set up for a pivot grab which has extended range. (That and play on a no trip Wii ;) )

SH inhale gets me as ROB more often than any other use of inhale, I expect a B-air so I shield, and then the next thing I know fromundaman is running toward the opposite side of the ledge so he can laser camp me.

edit* extra annoying if he has my gyro in hand
