Hey there west coast, you guys have been really supporting the smash scene by coming to our tournaments and here is another big one to take a look at. All I ask is that you guys give me a few minutes of your time to show you why my tournament will be one of the big ones on the East Coast. I have a Brawl tournament coming up on April 4-5 called Apex. It is hosted by me Alex Strife ( lightxdream ) and my goal is to have this to be my biggest tournament yet. I am creating this thread in an attempt to spread HYPE and the word of this tournament.

Here are a few things to consider about this tournament.

--Huge Venue for a cheap price
-A tournament ran by me, Phoenix Era ( With the best ZSS in the EC Snakee) and Team Supremacy! ( with Ninjalink and D1 two of the best in NYC and EC )
-2 day tournament where everything will end at 10pm so we can get great sleep!
-Mics and Recording equipment so we play matches online
-Chairs!!!
-Great low price to encourage all tournament goers to go!
-Commentating by me and other great smashers
-Super close to Manhattan and Bronx ( 1st stop in Brooklyn in the best area and college possible )
-MUCH MORE

I have information for Travel and Housing here :

VIb. Flying Into New York City

Flying in via plane? Apex is pretty close to La Guardia Airport. LGA
the M60 bus ( $2 bucks each way ) which picks you up at the airport and drops you off at 116th and Broadway in front of the gates of Columbia University. From here you can take a bus, taxi or subway to anywhere in Manhattan.

VIc. Driving To New York City

Driving in via car? Mapquest it. Parking is pretty awesome around here.

VId. Public Transportation

If you are traveling from New York:

Poly is located on Jay St. It is across the street from City Tech, and is located right outside the Jay St. exit of the A, C, F Jay St.- Borough Hall stop. It is also walking distance away from the R, M and 2,4,5 trains

If you are traveling from New Jersey:

To get here from NJ you would go to Penn Station via NJ Transit and from there take the A and C Jay St.- Borough Hall stop

If you are traveling from PA in Philadelphia or right outside of it: Take the ChinaTown bus to Penn Station and take the A and C Jay St.- Borough Hall stop.

VIe. Housing

I, Alex Strife, am housing 10 people at my house Saturday Night. If you are interested, please PM me.

DJ Nintendo will be housing people as well. If you know him please PM him as he does not want strangers at his house.

Jtails may be able to house someone

Ron ( phillybilly ) may house some depending on who needs it and if he attends the tournament

Xivik will house people if needed as well

Now here is where I tell you what is in it for you besides that. This tournament is in NYC. You can literally end at 10pm and go out to 42nd street ( which is 4 stops on the train away ) or go to Chinatown and the place is still booming. This is NYC and it can be HUGE.

My last LOCAL tournament had 172 players and if you think about it most of those return for your second event. So we are guaranteed 120 players locally. Imagine the math :

Singles $10 = $1200 GUARANTEED
Doubles $20 x 50 teams ( my last doubles tournament ) = $1000 Guaranteed

That is LOCALLY $2200 in prizes in NYC. If more come from out of state if could reach $3000-5000.

Bottom line WC you guys are kewl peeps I haven't talk to many of you outside of DSF for a little bit and maybe a few others but I do know that you guys are willing to make the trip. Please support in some way.

The choice is ultimately yours guys so please take a look at the thread at the very least

well my issue is setups vs time allotted. If I had it for 3 days I'd work towards it. Right now I want to focus on doing an all brawl tournament and get the ECRC stuff set up. In all honesty there are a LOT more EC melee tournaments around and its probably better to separate the two cause it just avoids ppl *****ing about one or the other ( why they still ***** after about a year I dunno but ppl are silly like that ).

Also Genesis has a LOT bigger pot than I do... I do not have sponsors that can donate 10k. So this is what we are going with. Building a Circuit that can be successful.

This is not to say that it will not happen in the future but as with everything you have to start small. Like I said I got 170ppl locally so they are out there.

btw how u been bro i wanna play sometime melee/brawl

edit : my bad im musically inclined...now films...thats where I got my B.A for XD

it's brawl, it'll never get done at 10 pm if you want it to be the biggest tourney yet.
EDIT: And if it's melee too.

How do you propose to have a Brawl + Melee tourny go well in 2-days.

What are your schedules?

Are there any intermissions?

What are you housing arrangements? IE. Is the Hotel providing anything? Are people who are housing providing rides to and from the venue?

yes its all on the op here is most of it
LOCATION

The Palmer Inn
3449 US Highway 1
Princeton, NJ 08450
609-452-2500

Call the hotel and mention a tournament called APEX in order to reserve a room at a cheaper rate.

Inui's Information
Since the the venue is a hotel, rooms will be sold at a discounted rate starting at $83.50. The normal rates are $120+, so don't complain about a mere $83.50. May is an extremely busy time of year. The Garden Room and the Windsor Room will be used for the tournament. The Garden Room is downstairs, but it's still very close to the Windsor Room, so this shouldn't be a problem at all. We’ll only have the Windsor Room on Sunday, so it’s best if people not in the final brackets didn’t stick around, although we can still accommodate you if you decide to stay, especially if you pay for another night at the hotel. The hotel has a rule that only 4 people can stay in a room, but it’s really hard to enforce, so you can probably get away with more if you’re not an idiot and don’t make it obvious. You’re going to be held responsible if something goes wrong. It's basically around 21 bucks per person if you round up with four people. It gets cheaper if you pool with even more people.
I am starting at 12noon on Sat and ending around 1am and Vice versa for Sunday. The hotel gives me no time limit and I will be attempting 10-15 min intervals while I am making the brackets. There are eateries around the ENTIRE hotel a few actually and within walking distance that it would not be an issue.

As far as rides we have several people driving there and driving ppl from the airport to the venue. That is being complied and pretty much set in stone but I will post up after i get back from work

Yeah but is there Melee day and then a Brawl day, or are the games mixed within the days?

The games are mixed within the days but my goal is to do most , if not all, melee sat. Brawl is the main event but I want people to want to watch melee to ( lets be honest its MORE interesting anyway to watch melee. ) so I figure that it can all co-exsist

sounds cool

anyone else in norcal interested in going?

looking around at first glance, plane tickets would be somewhere from 250-350, depending on date (duh), airline (duh), and airport (philly is actually the closest I believe, then newark, then NYC airports)

first post in this thread isn't updated but apparently it's barlw and melee, and it's in central NJ
