No matter what D3 player I face, good or bad, always end up owning me at the end. I can never find a strategy agaisnt a D3 player cuz all they do is chain grab and when im off the stage attempt to gimp me. Now most of the time I dont get gimped but i still end up losing anyway, I really need tips on fighting agaisnt them.

All i know is to zair alot, and "dont get grabbed" (lol you f***ing kidding me?) but i want to see what my fellow Link mainers do agaisnt D3

Deva said how to play against him, I'll find the quote, gimme a min.

Ahh I can't find it. Deva had a whole essay on how to play against D3, and search function is failing me.

Sure you can spam your zair like a madman, but are you just using it wildly or are you in control?

Using zair against D3 takes patience and very good spacing. You need to know when to use approaching zairs, retreating zairs, etc. One of my favorite techniques against him is using Zair with a bomb in hand, then using a fsmash before throwing it.

But anyways, against D3; space well, spam projectiles, stay unpredictable.
And don't get grabbed. ;)

Found it! Ty Deva

@Legan, for a while I was thinkin it was too. But then I realized, it's not the worst, just the most gey and boring. Eggz started maining DDD, omg it's soooooo gey. just cg to gimp over and over and over. Only solution you have is to ban FD. As long as there's at least one platform you'll be ok. From there you only have 1 option really. It's like the suicide bomb tactic against Falco. . .except for the whole match xD. You can't space him with anything except zair due to the gey grab range that make's Marth look like he had baby hands in melee, and even then if you dont space it perfectly your screwed. Instead, just run away, throw bombs, try to stay above him on platforms and throw bombs down, BF is a great stage for this or even let them cp Green Greens so you can stay on the 2 platforms and do the same thing. Just dont let them get you down on the stage lol. Then randomly if you either mispace the zair or they powershield or whatever, just throw the bomb down at your feet. You're not even safe holding the bomb since randomely the slide annimation when he down throws you keeps the blast from the bomb from hitting him and he just runs up and grabs you again. Honestly if you play like this the whole match, he'll never really get an edge on you but it's boring as hell and you have to be really careful. Only semi fool proof recovery I've found is after the cg, double jump and pull a bomb. They'll usually bair you after the bomb pull. Just keep upb-ing towards him into the bairs until he stops bairing since there's no way you can make it back to the stage, and by then the bomb should explode at the last second and you should be able to recover. There's a few exeptions to this not working, but as long as you play campy run away gey throwing bombs down from above/ blowing yourself up, you shouldn't be in the situation much xD.

I had this problem against WCN (A good DeDeDe on Gamebattles in the top 100), The only thing that let me keep up with him was really smart bomb spam, still lost, but hey.. projectiles are your friend, imo. Play like a really Toon Link Pit.

Everything they've said here is really true. Zair his beak off and spam those projectiles to keep him away from you. Bombs>Waddle Dee's. (I threw a number of bombs through waddle dees at a tournament yesterday, not sure if they really do go through or it was just the timing on my throws.) As much as I get flamed for it at tournies, I've counterpicked Link on DDD and won countless times. It's not a bad match-up persay, but like Deva said, it's just a very long, boring, and ghey match-up. Link has the tools to get around DDD and his chaingrab from hell, it's just gonna take a while. I'm not very wise on stage counterpicking, but Deva seems to have it right.

There's no shame in camping and spamming your projectiles, especially when the opponent mains someone like Dedede.

CP Norfair on him lol. Or RC. Or GHZ. Or Pipes. Somewhere where he can't CG.

And, just a thought, reverse bombsliding might work.

Green Hill Zone. I'm about the only Link that CPs that stage. Though I love it, because

1) I have pretty good control on it

2) I love using SH aerials

3) No one else EVER plays that stage, so they have no experience there lol

I'm intrested to know where you've played that GHZ is allowed as a CP. The only tourney I've heard of that allows that as a CP will be the upcoming Gametable in January.

Oh, I'm not a tourney player XD. I live in a smash-dead town. My experience is through Wifi only (I know it fails, but it's all I have). I CP GHZ against D3 in online tourneys and ranked matches and such because the stages used are from the SBR list.

That January tourney - I want to go to that, but still trying to convince the parental units atm.

Zair the crap out of him and always have a bomb in hand in order to break his CGs. That's all that comes to my mind.
Zair is excellent because of the spacing it gives you from D3's absurdly good shield game.
But the bombs don't help you escape the CG, unlike vs Falco.

Post in the Question and Answer thread, silly. :ohwell:

I'm the same way. xD I live over in Farmingville and until recently I've done nothing but Wifi to get where I am. If you're really good with Link online you'll LOVE playing him offline. I place and do so much better with him in person then I do online.

You should, Ritch already told me he'd be there and I'd really like to play some more Link mains/players around here.

Farmingville? That's not the same as Farmingdale, is it?

I live in Garden City, Long Island, btw. Just one town over from Mineola. The tourney is a 7 minute drive from my house, a 2 mile walk. But....my parents hate video games. T-T

No, they're two different towns. xD

It's retardedly easy to reverse down tilt spike a DDD.
It's also retardedly easy to jab lock DDD and keep him locked. His huge character model makes it so you can boomerang him and actually make it to his character model in time to get that first jab off, which for me...is the hardest part of walking them across the stage for a nice F-Smash.

Chaingrabbing is a biotch....don't do FD with them :(
Go Norfair to horribly stop his CG and gimping.

use bombs to get out of CG's if that's the reason you are getting ownd. use zair for spacing and just use projectiles so you can keep ur distance

Dude dont pick FD lol, Spacing is key use your zair and bombs/rang to set up combos and use your ariels wisely....or play brawl+no chaingrabs and combos

That dont get grabbed bs is stupid ur going to get grabbed and this is a big part to overcoming him. Know how to get back on I cant tell you because I dont know who your playing pay attention to there pattern of offstage attacks.

Find what percentages your kill moves actually kill him. If you opponents DI well, find what percentages will kill him if they are DIing well.

If you're in a tournament set against D3, flat out ban FD. Then, make sure there's at least one platform on the stage. Stay above him on platforms and throw bombs down THE ENTIRE MATCH. No joke. No matter what, when it comes down to it, he's gonna just CG to gimp you, so you have to play equally as gay. Jump around above him on the platforms and throw bombs down, if you're ever on the stage, zair and get back above him. Eventually you can trick him into getting hit by a dair out of bomb. If you need to counterpick, Do norfair, or if they ban it go Lylat. Three platforms all close to the ground, Just throw the bombs at the platforms and it'll hit D3. The sides of the stage can mess up his recovery too. It's really boring and you just have to run away and play as gay as possible the whole match, but it's really the only way to win, cuz if he get's close to you once, that stock is gone.

Thanks for the input Deva. I really need to start adjusting my playstyles to fit my situations more, even it does mean playing gay. :]
