Another Pikmin Discussion

This thread is to discuss which Pikmin we choose against which character (For example throwing all "wrong" pikmins of the Edge and plucking new one to get more of the correct pikmins... when you have time to do that, we know olimar isnt that good at off-Stage edgeguarding )

For example:

We know that the yellow pikmin are very effective vs. Pikachu because of electric resistance. So we should try to keep as most as possible yellow pikmin in your chain. (For example by throwing other pikmins off the stage when oppenant is death or something and then plucking new one )

If you know what attacks each character has, which I presume all you guys do, then this is all self-explanatory. For example, we all know Snake has a lot of explosion attacks. Red=Fire. That's all there is to it. I don't think we really need this thread. Sorry. :/

Lucario - I would say Purple because those get very early kills on him, and no one would want Lucario to live long enough for him to obtain "awesome aura".

Ness - Yellows would be the choice because of his Fair, Yellows aren't affected and that's his main approach and way to get Pikmin away. They're also handy for gimping his PK Thunder.

Marth - I would have to say Yellows and Purples are equally effective against Marth. Purple for obvious reasons, but Yellows, you need them to outrange and outprioritize that gay sword Martha has.

ehh.. that isn't always the case. Immunities aren't always the only factor. Certain attacks work better against certain characters, and getting pikmin that do better for those attacks than others would be beneficial.

For example, Rob has quite a few fire elemental attacks, however red pikmin arent as amazing as you'd expect them to be. Sure, they prevent him from removing pikmin with his nair, bair, etc, but Nair (the only one that would remove them from his whole body) takes too long to come out anyways. instead, Rob would usually use a different attack to get pikmin off (utilt/dsmash most likely), or the pikmin would stay on him so long that it wouldn't matter what color they were. I often find whites to work well against rob, due to his difficulties getting pikmin off without leaving openings. Not that white would be the best, just that immunities aren't as big of a deal in most matchups.

I think this thread could have potential, and I had actually previously considered starting the exact same thing, though I was hesitant because i wasn't sure how the oli boards would take it. Colors are definitely a pretty large part in several matchups. So if you can get something going and the thread works out, awesome :D I'll help however I can.

Snake:

Blue/White/Yellow @ lower %'s

Blue/Red/Purple @ death %'s

White's let you camp and rack damage with side-B. Yellow's are just disjointed - great for juggling with uair and getting snake into the air with usmash.

Blue for the extra grab range (IIRC) which you'll need for when you force the Snake to approach.

Death %'s are self explanatory. You want him dead.

However managing your pikmin and having a variety of colors due to each's "bonus" is the best for each matchup IMO.

As the others said this topic is to discuss the best pikmin choice, not elementary based only.

@SuSa: I think red & blue is the best choice against Snake.

Reds because of fire resistance and blues... yeah you know the range thingy xD pivot grabs are way tooooo good against snake. Yellows do their job because of disjointed Hitboxes which also can be handy against Snake... so I really dont know, every pikmin has his place against Snake (Purples destroy most of Snakes approaches)

When I fought the first good Olimar he just camped the whitys and throw them on me and instantly grabbed me D:
I couldnt do **** about this, then I figured out to just UpTilt them as soon as they get in range (OHKO xD) and they werent a that big problem anymore (I think hitting pikmins diminishes attacks right? But Snake has enough other kill moves as we know )

Actually, I really like yellows against wolfs. kills them when they think they can use lazer up close, or camp you, or anything. Really takes out their priority and destroys their fsmashes. I guess yellows are pretty good for all the spacies ._.

same goes for Sonic, if you have one that's really hardto predict and cancels a lot of stuff, you're going to love the bigger hitboxes and better priority. I'm destroyed in the air by some sonics, even with nair and uair. Yellows really boost the game. On the ground, if they're good they'll be next to impossible to grab, or if you do get the grab it'll break from them hitting you.

So yellows for spacies and sonic D:?

i think blue is the best choice for all of the characters. Pretty good strength, very powerful with forward and back throws, decent range, wont die in water so you can spike lock people underwater in Delfino or pirate ship.

I'd have to say that even though yellow pikmin are my favorite, blues are the best. Yellows have several matchups that they do remarkably better in than others, but there's really nothing blues can't do.

Damage, throws, smashes, aerials. All of the other pikmin have certain qualities that they noticeably aren't as good in as others are. Blues just have more and better options than the other pikmin.

Yeah, I think Blues are really the best.

Adding on to what Hilt said, they also have more Durability than most of the other Pikmin, other than Purple of course.

If only they had the priority and range of Yellow Pikmin. >_<

This is an old thread that might help with this one. The other one died before it finished but hopefully this one won't.

It doesn't have the latch areas for all characters, and if you need I can test it myself. I could also see which moves would knock off the pikmin.

For TLink, yellows or reds are the best. Yellows can outrange most of his attacks. Reds are better as they can stop his projectile game PERIOD when latched on his front or arms I think.

but... all pikmin stop toon link's bombs. Not just reds. Reds just don't die when the bomb exploads. Either way, the bomb still blows up in toon link's face.

Also he's still able to use his bow and boomerang. Against toon link, my opinion is yellow/purple > Blue > Red > White.

Having our own solid projectile against him is helpful. Blues are good all around, while reds aren't good for grabs which is what messes toon link up the most, next to out spamming him. Whites I rarely find worthwhile, except for a couple of matchups.
