It amazes me how the government does nothing to shut these places down. I mean it shouldn't take just PETA to try to bring these places down...

They have lots of shows where there are tons of groups saving innocent animals.

One must also keep in mind that animals cannot talk or operate doors, so it's much harder to find abused animals (unless he's bone thin and chained to a tree in the yard)

While I vehemently oppose animal cruelty, PETA flat out lies about a lot and has funded an urban terrorist (while he was a member of the Earth Liberation Movement) who gave seminars on how to build explosives and lists of places that engaged in animal cruelty.

Circuses are pretty awful.

What does this solve? It doesn't un-torture the animals, and I'd be willing to bet it wouldn't deter any of the people sick enough to torture animals.

There was a peaceful protest done by a group at my college outside a Ringling Bros Circus performance. If anything, Im sure it got the kids asking questions and that's where prevention starts.

Closest Ive gotten to hurting an animal is stepping on my stupid cat when he's sprawled out in the living room at night, but then he bites the crap out of me so I pick him up and love on him--he HATES that, lol.

I hate animal abusers. It's why I don't go to the circus. I remember back in Elementary school, we used to get free tickets whenever the Circus came into town. Pretty bad that they give them away to little kids who didn't know any better.

That said, groups like PETA are terrible too. I'm all for the ethical treatment of animals, but I don't like liars and fearmongerers.

And either problem is ever going to be solved? Just because there is more than one problem does mean you can't work on more than one at once. In this case, the two seem to be fairly intertwined.

My point was that it's easier to empathise with other humans, yet people still abuse and fail to sympathise with others. I'm not saying we shouldn't strive to end animal cruelty, we should, but if we can't even look after our own species, there's little hope that everyone will treat animals properly. If people could first establish respect for their neighbour, then maybe respect for the world around us would be easier to establish.

In this case I think it's true though, I'm pretty sure he's going to end up murdering his family for inheritance or something one day. Oh well none of my business.
