Alias is a show about a spy.
Coach brings up a good point.

JESUS !!! what a number of pages just to argue about the difference between Melee and Brawl. What does it matter, if one person likes Brawl and the other likes Melee then let it be at that. I loved Melee for awhile... BUT! i entered in the competitive scene alittle to late and so i gave up on it because so many people were way to good and i got frustrated to fast and i hated losing so **** much. I like Brawl alot more now because its alot easier to play, and the fact that its not about "What buttons do i push to glitch" <--- quoted from someone i cant remember whom. Anyways ill say this.....

[ Halo3 / Brawl ] - Nothing found so far to ruin the game as of now.
[ Halo2 / Melee ] - Tons of button glitches that were never supposed to be in the full game.

I've said my 2 cents and i refuse to say anymore :chuckle:.

[EDIT] - Also the reason i use Halo as an example is because its pretty much in the same field and Smash. People loved Halo2 and people still do. People loved Melee and people still do. Now that Halo 3 and Brawl are out people like them both but alot of people hate them both. Its all because they took out everything from the past games.

It really is simply 2 different games, and I think comparing the two is an argument that ultimately leads nowhere.
can i hear an "amen"? nuff said.

Mostly unrelated to this thread, but I think "no johns" is the most obnoxiously trite phrase on this site. Risk being lame; use it at your own peril.
can i hear another "amen"? i can't wait to see your new taunt just to exploit other people's dumb taunts:laugh:

I always thought it was annoying when people said that brawl was boring. Slower, not boring. (screw camping, its not completely unbeatable)

Behind you.
My name, too, is John. I always feel discriminated against when 'No Johns' is uttered...I look up, pleadingly into the eyes of my oppresors and beg: Please, sir, just one John? This one?

Alas, I am smacked time and time again.

Quick question: Who are ya'll favoring for secondaries?

I kinda like Wario, Charizard, Jiggs, Toon Link, and Ike for secondaries myself.

Holy **** guys lolz, ok multiple things:

First, I think we have covered a variety of points in this discussion of Brawl/Melee. Some of the most important is that Brawl is mainly a thinking game and is only marginally limited by its reduction of tech skill. I feel that what we are all trying to say is that Brawl gives you time to think, and act accordingly to your opponent's patterns. It is the same in Melee, but there are just different options, and ways to punish your opponent accordingly. So really the games aren't that different in the mindgames aspect.

Secondly, tech skill doesn't make a game better over all, just better for some people who love the thrill of being able to pull off fast combo's and tricky moves to show off their skills IE me. Therefore this point is entirely up to the player. I love being able to move insanely fast, and read my opponents moves to punish them, thats why i won't give up Melee.

But i also love the thinking Brawl involves, making me have to guess what my opponent will do, and giving me time to do it. I don't have to memorize what to do in situations where my opponent is very spot dodgey, or when my opponent is advancing in the normal fox style, and i am a shiek player. I enjoy learning in both aspects of Melee and Brawl, its just Brawl more open mingames after each executed move.

So we all say that Melee and Brawl are both good, just in different ways; and, how good the game is relys completely on the player.

Lastly, there is only 1 character in Brawl that can 0 - death everyone, with no chance for escape, and thats IC's ^^

*edit* Btw, we shouls smash tonight (thursday) and majist i shall take you u on that offer soon enough. Unfortunately i still have to tweak with the router stuffs before i can get online.

I forgot to mention, has anyone been toying with the "Break the Targets"? I have found the lvl 3 to be the most fun one to come up with differnt strats for. Plus i have already seen alot of strats for lvl 1 and 2 and can't really make up any better ones for those.

Moogle if you want to give me the times you are most proud of i shall attempt to replicate/beat them.

As for me here is my list:
lvl 3
Ike - 23.25
Gannondorf - 22.81 secs
Lucario - 19.46 secs
Yoshi - 18.53 secs
Metaknight - 18.26
Ice Climbers - 14.46 secs
Falco - 13.41 secs
Fox - 13.13

All of these i have come up with my own strats for, and have yet to be done perfectly. Those times are with me slowing down a little bit due to errors, but for the most part the the better most of them can be is maybe by a 1 or .5 seconds.

i picked up target practice one night when I was bored around 10 and couldn't put down the controller until about 2am. Oddly addicting. I'm not making that mistake again.

that happens to me midguy.
its especially frustrating when i get a good run, only to look online and see someone has done it 3 seconds faster.
the fastest one I've done is around 8 seconds on lvl 1 with Olimar. (online someone used my exact same strat excpet did it way faster and got like 5 secs)
i usually only do lvl 1 because those are the most visually impressive to me. who wants to watcch a btt for 25 seconds lol. my goal is to get under 11 seconds, and have done so with mario, toon link, pit, and R.O.B, (and falco, but i'm not really proud of that one because people can do his in like 4 seconds)

@ munkus, my secondary is everyone (except falcon and sonic)

i'm done with the brawl vs melee debate, it just turns into, reasons I like the game=reasons the game is better competitively. That's the only thing I try to argue is that those two things aren't equal, because they aren't. anyone who thinks brawl isn't competitively viable, very simply needs to just go to a brawl tournament.

I am also convinced, that like Melee, after all the playerhation has died down in a few years, Brawl will be just as loved and played and will have just as many good people.

I'm coming home to birmingham tomorrow for the summer, so bham people hit me up for brawling becaus eI don't have a wii of my own yet. We should have a weekly fest like the h-ville people do. I intend to get good at this game. After playing moogle at the tuscaloosa tournament, i noticed his DI skillz from Melee have carried over, and my lack of DI skillz from melee have carried over. I need to fix that. My reaction time is slow.

I want to have another tournament in tuscaloosa. if i could find a way to provide housing, I would like to have like a smashtacular weekend like with 64, melee, and brawl

I would feel that my runs are visually impressive. If i could get online i'd show them, but i can't >.< i was especially proud of the IC one because there are 2 targets that get broken without you ever seeing them. and you have to stop and think for a sec about how they got broken.

Also i am throughly convinced that Fox is generally the best with breaking the targets. He can do lvl 1 2 3 4 and 5 faster than almost every character. Which is boring lolz.

oh and Welcome to Bama J.rudolph ^^

This is totally not relevant in the least bit but I just say Iron Man and I was amazing. If you plan to go see it stay after everything. You will get the most amazing surprise ever. This is if you like Samuel L Jackson!

Fact: Thursdays are awesome, along with Melee teams. You people know who you are.

And I wouldn't worry about the debating, George. Topics never last more than a few days.

Dude i wanted to stay for Melee teams >.<, but we started to late. And yes that was an awesome night; Rob, thanks for playing me in melee, i know you don't particularly care for that game too much now :)

To everyone i played: Thanks for helping my out with my IC game, i learned a lot about their weaknesses. And woot for the first 0 to death combo in Brawl (that I've seen anyway) of our Huntsville group ^^ you're awesome Majist.

@munkus: I secondary Dedede, falco, and i'm working in metaknight. I also like Fox, Lugi, Snake, and Pikachu, so i plan to secondary those as well, its just gonna take me a bit longer to figure them all out.

@J.rudolph: I thought i might have seen you post here before but i wasn't sure, i don't pay a lot of attention to smash boards, so you are now re welcomed back lol.

i was just looking at the pre-reg list for GA's melee tournament
and apparently ChuDat, Cort, and PC Chris are all going. That's sweet, that interest in Melee is still so high. I'm glad its not dying because I never got good at it. :-D

Really? That's why I'm glad it might die; because I never got good at it.

Please, let me stay out of the debate. Melee was fun, but I like Brawl better.

omg >.< wow...i never actually thought i'd meet chu or PC because i'd never go to a MLG or Evo tourny thats like more than 5 hours away, but i'll actually get to meet them for real. That makes me that much more excited to get to this tourny.

this is something i wanted to fix. you see, if we could have a smashfest on say, a SATURDAY NIGHT, nothing would be too late, yeah?! who wants to smash TONIGHT?? it would be great if we could have it at moogle's, but if that's not possible, i would be willing to host. give me some feedback. we haven't had a saturday smashfest in over a month guys. like, ever since brawl was released. the last time we had a saturday rumble was when munkus was in town O_o

you can go fack yourself:p

i don't have any secondaries....i just play random characters that i'm semi-good at.

Same here. I'm gonna practice up real hard.
oh REEEEALLY??? i want to practice melee again. we should smash tonight, son.
