Hey Guys!

I fell in love with this character, recently! I generally love those who need a certain degree of finesse to them (Like Lucas or G&W), but Ryu blows those out of the water!

A clean Ryu is the hypest character in smash, in my opinion!

I am now on an never-ending path to hone my Ryu play and I hope my fellow warriors can help me on my quest by criticising my gameplay!

I can't say to did anything really bad because I think Ness vs Ryu sucks for Ryu.
But you did throw out a couple of smashes that you did not need to throw out when you were in the lead. If you're in the lead by a bit then I suggest waiting for Ness to come at you so you can murder him (be prepared to powershield is projectiles).

I would say you could edge guard a bit better (Challenge PK THUNDER at your own risk). When Ness yous on the ledge you could have hit him with a N-air or a Shakunetsu Hadoken or something to cover options. I do think he recovered for free.

All in all, you didn't play bad because a good amount of what you did was safe. I can't say that much on you because it was just a single battle. If you could get a set then it'd be much easier to see a habit or you doing something bad.

Probably, but I wasn't going for too many combos, just trying to hold him back. Ryu has 6 different varieties of Hadoukens, i believe there is a psychology in mixing them up for fool the opponent.

I just picked up Ryu and would like some helps on improving. I am REALLY bad with him though I want to get better.


(Like I said I'm really bad with him right now)

I know some basic Ryu techniques like up-tilt (or d-tilt) to shoryuken, but the problem I have is actually getting close enough to my opponent to land the up-tilt at kill%'s (especially against a sword wielder like Corrin). I know shoryuken is great for killing, but aside from that I have no idea how to kill as Ryu. Also I don't know how to properly edge-guard as him. Any tips are appreciated.

Hey guys hopefully this thread isn't dead, because I really need help. For a while I have been in the smash scene and place well a good amount of times but not so consistent. Ever since brawl my play-style has always been called campy even though I haven't been trying to "ACTIVELY" camp people. It gets to the point where people don't want to play me in friendlies which kinda makes me sad. I recently been picking up ryu to force my self to learn how to be more aggressive or have more control of how matches go. I don't super care what people say about me I just want to know what is causing them to feel this way or what is causing most my matches to go to time. This happens even when I feel like I was trying to chase my opponent the whole time. I know Im not super familiar with the character but I hope someone can tell me "fundamentally" why my play-style is campy or why most of my matches are slow paced ,or why I have no control even when I get the lead, or why I loose leads, or why I cant close out stocks , or why I struggle approaching when people don't get near me. I feel like I know most concepts about the game like baiting or spacing or movement, but maybe I missed a beat on those concepts. Even when I win I feel like I had to do more work than what I need to, even when I feel like I can read my opponents flow chart or patterns. Mostly I don't get how to pressure people with ANY character I play, I know it has to do with threatening outside peoples ranges and waiting but I feel like my matches are still slow. If someone can give me in dept advice please HELP
