AE Fighter Group Project [Character Concept Submissions/Gameplay Outline]

Ooo yes I was thinking that too. Her cubic body could be like an accordion and extend.

Also for her voice... like multiple women need to record something in unison like a church congregation... :3c

As for the grab I was thinking along the lines of her holding her palm out... the oponnent in front of her is now in a cube with a point on the ground where she shocks them or something lol.

You know... maybe instead of shocking the opponent she could use some sorta "force push" on the cube and send the opponent to the other side of the screen lol.

Possibly while saying something cool...

Ok Kurt pointed me in the direction of this thread, so I thought I'd throw in an idea for a character I've always wanted to see in a fighting game.

Basically it would be a man with many different tattoos which he could "bring to life"

For example the could ignite the flames around his wrists for some fire punches, use the barbed wire/thorns on his forearms to grab his opponents, the skulls on his upper arms for some projectiles, wings on his back for a bigger jump/aerial dash.

Since you can tattoo almost anything onto your body I think you could do almost anything with this character.

What do you guys think?

Tattooing is an art form used famously by the Maori...

Many different indigenous island tribes from the Phillipines, Hawaii, Samoa and the like used similar tattoos.

Even tribal Africans and South Americans used similar things... If someone wants to take this it may be somewhat... interesting :p

Also Neon... I was thinking the Defense stat could be representative of the amount of damage you would take on block...

If we're taking that route anyway... for example, after a Discus Throw Antares would take more damage on block because his defense stat would be lower without the shield...

Lokii may have a really low Defense stat but she may be able to make up for it by opting to dodge attacks instead...

Just some thoughts.

I wouldn't mind creating the character myself.

I'm not excellent at drawing though, so that would hold me back from making concept designs.

I just love the idea of a character you can do almost anything with.

He needs to have a Mohawk though :p

Also, I would stick with HP, no defense, it needlessly complicates with no positive effects.

Plus it's easier to tweak if someone has to much or little health.

Ok I'm gonna go home and work on some character stuff, hopefully I'll come up with something good.

So far these designs are really good :D I can't wait to see more.

I have an idea for a character, she would represent watercolors and Chinese painting. She can summon colorful fish, thorns, and other things in nature for her attacks. I'll go work on a design right now.

Also, what direction do you guys think I should go with the armor...

Persian: This suits the part Arabic Origins of his name


European: This looks the most practical if made of clay


Greek: This just looks badass. Also the scorpion symbol on the shield is perfect since Antares is of Scorpio.

Don't stress over the concept designs, they're just concepts :laugh: Farther along in development there'll be a team of artists who will redraw all of these characters for the final product.

That's also a really cool idea though, I'm pretty sure I even saw something like that on dA before. I think it'd be a great addition.

With Aidans... Maybe some sorta Native Tribal North American or Pacific Islander...

That way we'd increase the character diversity! :D

Needs a blackperson imo... We already have a white person, asian, persian/greek/arab guy, and potential Native American/Native Islander.

Probably more males too. We have 3 women and one male xD

Albeit, it's a sketch, but I don't think I'd have changed it much in the final product other than ink it in. I don't like how massive his head is.

Anyway, his ability - just about able to use anything as a weapon, so long as he snaps and make mention what he wants afterward. Seems broken, but we don't have to give him anything like that - It just warrants creativity to his attacks since he isn't bounds to a particular object or fighting style.

That's my character.

Awesome, more sketches! I might narrow down his power somewhat. How exactly can he turn things into weapons? Maybe at some cost, like he loses blood or sanity or something everytime he conjures a weapon? Then again I don't know his backstory so it's hard to give advice.

Well, if you insist. :cool:

You don't really see characters of African descent in fighting games very often, although I think Elena from SF3 was African royalty or something. Then again I could just be playing the wrong ones.

Speaking of character diversity, it'd also be cool to have some less humanoid characters. One of the coolest things about Arakune for instance is that he's so... unorthodox. He's a black blob that throws bugs at people, it doesn't get much weirder than that.

It's from a dream I had. His power really has no vice due to the species he is a member of.

When you think about it, the power is a vice itself, because without saying the word, he can't have what he asks for. But I suppose, since this is a fighting game, we could give him a charging bar and a set of standard attacks that come with extra "power" for however long his bar can last, thus giving him some range. Then, while the attacks are normal themselves, their range gets cut when the bar is depleted.

Sounds good?

Definitely like the concepts so far, we should keep in mind that there are some standard playstyles that definitely need to be in the game. Think about the stereotypes like big-strong (Tager), fast-weak (that guilty gear char, forgot her name lol), overly techskill cancel characters (Johnny from guilty gear X) or the simply spacing characters like Clarice in Arcana Heart 3, then there's the low-range but when she gets in she *****-char like... eh, don't know a great example right now.
Then there are projectile characters like BlazBlue's Lambda, or there's a character with active hazards like BlazBlue's Mu or MVC3's Chris Redfield.

etc etc, you need to have a wide array of the standard playstyles to lure players in, but besides that you need characters with that special feel to create a cult.

Just my 2 cents.

From what I'm gathering it looks like Lokii is a close range speedy combo maniac... Antares relies mostly on predicting and spacing correctly with his varying length attacks and shield... and the Cubism woman is sorta working on a Dhalsim/Arakune principle with her unarmed combat and ability to change the length of her limbs etc.

Still tweaking designs and colors especially on her dress. Floral prints are pretty but way too hard to draw. I drew these in a small sketchbook so some things are cut off. I apologize for my terrible tablet handwriting xD

Very cool you two :D

I like the fish graphic design global. It does a good job of representing watercolor.
I'm picturing a kimono design that has a bunch of gold floral patterns and stuff near the bottom, that slowly dissipates higher up a red dress. i like that yellow too though.

On a side note... Kurt, did you envision Dillusia being completely white? Because I honestly can't see her in colour. Plus it does good to emphasize a more modern design. Sterility as well.
