About using the AC'd dair as a defensive weapon...

Could anyone offer any tips about using AC'd dairs to stop approaches? I've managed to start pulling them off consistently by holding the control stick down and rolling my thumb quickly over Y and A. And I can travel slightly by tilting the stick to the left or right a little bit. But in most videos of high level Ganon players I see people getting this (relatively) huge lateral distance during the short hop and it still autocancels. When watching that, it makes sense that the stomp could be used as a defensive move because you leap forward and hit someone by surprise, but whenever I do it it seems like they have to be practically right next to you before they enter the stomp's hitbox, seeing as how I can only get this tiny horizontal movement on the short hop. By that time they've usually thrown out something that out-priorities the stomp and stop it cold.

So, is there some way to cover more distance and still have the move autocancel? I know that using the Y and then immediately down on the c-stick method would allow you to push the control stick all the way to the right and cover more distance in the air, but I can only pull this off occasionally because the Y button and the c-stick are kind of far apart. Most of the time it just gives me the lag and I get punished.

Same for Ganon's other aerials. I've seen a lot of people retreating while spamming AC'd uairs, and it seems to me like the only practical way to do this is the c-stick, but I just cant hit it fast enough every time. Is there some trick to this whole process I'm not getting? Or do I just need to move my thumb from Y to the C-stick with lightning speed? It seems like this is one of the core components in any serious Ganon player's game, so any advice at all would be greatly appreciated.

Some people like using tap jump and c-sticking at the same time.

In theory, this should improve air control.

I use up on the ctrl stick and down on the c stick to do my AC'd d-airs and then i just jump with Y and use the C's for my other ariels.

I just simply do the auto cancel DAir than immediately push backwards, it causes Ganon to cover massive distance backwards and anyone trying to approach gets punished.

As for spamming auto cancel UAir's you actually have to DELAY the A button press till abit after the Y/X button jump. If you do it with the same timing as DAir you'll simply whiff it or turn it into a full jump.

Okay, thanks for the advice. Just to make sure I'm getting this straight, if you use the tap jump + c-stick method, it would be something like, tap up, then hit down on the c-stick and over on the control stick immediately afterwards?

Something like that.

It really just depends on whether you're more comfortable with tap jumping or x-jumping.

I tried the c-stick/ tap jump method earlier today, and it worked like a charm. Thanks guys!

Also, Nataku, that tip really helped me get the timing down on the AC'd uair. It's already been really helpful on the approach and retreat.

I agree with Kosk about using X-A instead of Y-A. And Toasty, it would seem that you figured out how to do it with tap jump, but make sure you know that doesn't mean you gotta keep tap jump on if you don't like it. I hate tap jump and I'm able to cover long distances with AC'd DAir perfectly. In fact, Dair is my preferred method of travel as Ganon haha.

Y- or X-A takes a bit of practice to get the timing down, but it's great if you don't want tap jump on. I'll post a vid if you want a visual or something. You just gotta jump then autocancel your Dair, and once you know that you actually used Dair instead of a side aerial (takes some practice), roll the control stick from down to whatever direction you want to move. Rolling the control stick too early makes you do a different aerial, and rolling it too late gives you not as much distance.

Well, I've never used tap jump outside of this one application, but so far it hasn't caused any problems for me. I think the main thing I'm doing differently is the order of input: shorthop>dair>then move left or right. Before it was always shorthop>try to move left/right>fail at ACing dair because I didn't do it fast enough. Now that I have my priorities straight, I could probably learn the X/A method more easily.

I use the Y to A slide method thats how ive done it all along... i have no trouble with the moving side to side the only problem i would say is sometimes i accedently Fair, and with ganon thats not a good thing..

but with practice its not to bad.. or try to approach backwards so if you move the stick to early you just do a Bair..

and Bair ****ing rules
