It made its way to SRK.
http://shoryuken.com/2011/05/24/smash-community-delivers-yellow-cards/

From the looks of the comments, they couldn't be any more narrow-minded towards the community, but then again, we kinda bring this on ourselves. There was little distinction between Brawl and Melee, but just "Smash" as a whole; Thus only makes us look worse.

I'm not really one to make threads anymore, so I'll just keep it short and simple.

Anyone know how this made its way to SRK in the first place?

I love the statement "Smash will NEVER be a competitive game."

I guess we can stop pretending now guys, its been a good 10 years but the gig is up.

Edit: The everything community is pretty ********. People are ********. If you get a large group of people for anything, they're going to be pretty ******** in general.

I gotta say, I was pretty amused to see a SamuraiPanda post and then a DiscoCokkRoach. Looks like a pretty tolerant community.

I wish I could sign into SRK but the front page is so ridiculous to navigate around..

I'd comment on that guy who posted that 2006 video of Fox v Falco and give him hell.

Let's be fair, the only people who think Melee isn't a competitive game are people who haven't delved deep enough... or use a certain game in the series which discredits all other games as a reference.

Yeah, this.

It's like trying to choose between microsoft and apple.
They both suck.

Also I'm pretty sure most people there hate on everything that isn't Capcom.

Nah dude. They even hate on capcom games.
I have never seen an SRK post where there wasn't a large amount of *****ing and complaining coming from majority of them.
They hate on everything. No difference with smash.
I go to MvC3 tournaments pretty frequently and all the community here can do is ***** about every new fighter thats come out in the last like 5 years and talk about the good ol' days with CvS2. Well shiiiiiiit. If CVS2 was so damn good then go back to playing it.

Is it the general consensus that Melee is the most technical of the Smash series? I suggest we get the best player of Melee and the best player of Street Fighter/MVC3/Tekken etc and have them both switch games for a period of time. The goal is to get decent at the game and place relatively well in a tournament. After this is over, both players make a write-up on their thoughts if their respective community's assumptions about the other game is true.

Because this affects the smash community as a whole.

Like I said, on SRK, we aren't distinguished as brawl or melee. Just "Smash".

:phone:
The majority of the Melee community hasn't given a **** what SRK thinks of them since Brawl ****ed us all over with their whininess about Evo 2008. A lot of us play Mvc3 or SSFIV as well anyway so we are part of the SRK communtiy too regardless.

What other newsworthy stuff happens in the Smash world?
Interesting tournament results?

What if they talked about the amazing Pound V Melee finals between PP and Armada and about the expectations for Genesis 2 this summer?

That'd be far better and would shed a much nicer light on the community.

Oh god, not Pound V.

There's be so much BS from them about nobody getting their prize money.

Yes, let's tell SRK all about how we had amazing finals.

Then we tell them nobody got paid.

The Smash community is a few years younger than SRK and many of us are still at the "eff authority" age of our lives so bad blood is inevitable. I will say this: don't blame Brawl. If they see us as one community (as I do) then it's on all of us to get sorted with them. If it's even worth doing...

Seeing melee and brawl players as one is by definition prejudice, they're bunching everyone together instead of trying to understand there are different groups.
It makes it easier to form and us vs them mentality, and by consequence feel better about themselves.
Or something like that.

In any case it's not up to us to show anything, they have to stop being ignorant, and I don't mean every member of SRK, just the ones being dumb, which just happen to be more vocal about their opinion.
I've also noticed most "smash sucks" posts are in the front page comments, there's a lot fewer of them in the forums

F**k those statements that those SRK *******s posted. You serious saying that Smash isnt a fighting game. The smash community is a 100 times better then any other gaming community. Everyone on good terms with each other for the most part. Everyone is able to joke around and have fun whether they get ***** in a match or not. The community hosts their own tournaments with rarely any help from sponsors. its takes so much longer to get good at smash then say sf games. Took my friend about a year to get wave shining down, then took him about a weekend to recreated the Beast is Unleashed video. honestly they are prolly just mad that what was supposed to be a party game turned out to create a better and closer fighting community. Im not saying that Sf and all those other fighting games aren't good, I love playing them, but how can you say that Smash isn't a fighting game like come on SRK pull your head out your ***

we are not one community.
You are wrong. Brawl and Melee fall below the Smash community. WE divide ourselves into the Brawl and Melee (sub-)communities. Tsk tsk tsk!

I read it, and I know most of them are ignorant. So I just ignored it and continued on with my life.

Funny you should mention that, because Smash players use the separation of the Brawl and Melee (sub)communities to create an "us vs. them mentality." Odd how that works, innit? :awesome:
