OK, so i have been having an argument with my incredibly ignorant friend(ignorant in smash at least).

all you guys need to answer is: "Have you taken(learned) any strategies or techniques from RoyR?"

Yes. Sometimes I grab release to DB to get all my other moves back up to full power. I took fthrow > nair > usmash from him too. Its not guaranteed at all, but it looks kinda cool >_>

I read on the staple techniques that every Marth needs. (Walling, traps, exc)

Otherwise everything that I do, I come up with on my own. It will be less predictable and more fun to come up with your own strategies. Especially if they work.

Yes, it works to copy what others do, but its boring. I create my own mindgames and techniques as well as use the important ones everyone needs to use. Fair zoning exc...

what i mean is, have you picked up certain techniques(the release grab to attacks on MK for example) after seeing RoyR or other good marths use them?

Forte, Royr and Sethlon I the first pro smashers I ever even heard of in my life.

So I copied a lot from him and Forte.

Nah, and I think that was mostly my fault cause I didn't look for most of his vids, and I didn't hear of any ground breaking stuff from him, but since Steel said he discovered the release stuff on MK, I guess yes.

His jump break release on Meta Knight is probably the only thing I used directly from him. Jump break releases on GnW, and whatnot that spawned from his initial discovery could be considered too.

Other than that, I don't play like him so that's where similarities end. =/

Does this Roy live in Texas? Because if so, then yea, I think. There was this Marth player named Roy that I played with and when he played against someone's MK, he'd do a Grab Release to Tipped Fair, so I'm like, "That works?" and I've been trying to use it on all the characters, though now I am assuming it only works on MK.


I really don't pay attention to big names, so if my Roy is Roy_R, then lol.


Other than that, I havnt picked up anything from him. Mostly everything I've learned is through practices, ideas, experimentation. I think the only 3 Marth ATs I've picked up from Combo Vids, Videos, Advice from Marth boards are Vertical Space, Dolphin out of Shield, and Grab Release Infinites, 4 including the Roy thing.

I think we all have done things that someone else has done before. I used the fthrow to nair to fsmash after I seen Royr do it. Also many of us started using release grabs, however I started doing it after someone made a thread here, I think it was Steel or Junk.
