Backroom Members have been inducted!.

Thank you all for your submissions. This time, the voting was particularly harsh, and I feel more of the members who applied could easily have made it in with a little more meaningful forum contribution. Without further ado, let me present the new backroom members!

All four have shown a willingness to participate and contribute through the application process, as well as general forum activity.

Before any complaints get raised, all inductees pledged to be active in the backroom and offered plenty to convince us of their potential. Cases such as Fireblaster and some of the Europeans are precedent: they have contributed quite reasonably, despite low posting activity in the main forums. Please note that any complaints or flaming of this kind may lead to penalties.

Hi again. This is the second round of admissions for the 64 Backroom. The application process will again be conducted via PM, so please do not post your application in this thread. It is highly recommended that PMs are sent to all 3 Backroom Leaders (SuPeRbOoM, asianaussie, and Surri-Sama). Please note that your applications will likely be posted in the backroom itself for critique, so you aren't trying just to show off to the leaders, but also to the current members. As to how much weight each individual member has on the vote...that's a secret

Do not forget to apply for membership to the 64 Back Room group in the User CP (under Group Memberships).

PM Links:
Backroom Application Deadline HAS BEEN REACHED.

The SSB64 Backroom is still a work in process. This round of admissions is going to go a long way towards shaping it into a highly contributing part of the 64 community. Please take the application process seriously. Intellectual discussion and regular informed contribution is expected from backroomers, so please keep this in mind if you intend to apply that we want people that are going to properly represent the group and make real contributions. If you are not sure if this is you, or you have the time right now, do not apply.

Note that this round's "criteria" are significantly stricter than last rounds, and that I personally anticipate the absolute maximum number of successful applicants will be about 5.

Structuring Your Application

Smashboards Username (a formality)
Aliases on Kaillera servers (if applicable)
Location (Region if in US, country if not)
Character Main (You will be expected to contribute to discussion on this main. If you do you believe you specialise enough to contribute, indicate so - this will not be penalised in consideration)
Secondary Characters

What sort of history do you have playing the Super Smash Brothers series?

What level of player do you consider yourself? How do you compare to the community at large? Do you have any results (if you do have results, links would be appreciated) or personal recommendations from other SWF members to back up that claim?

Which aspect of SSB64 do you have confidence with? Do you specialize yourself in knowing select characters? Do you have considerable knowledge about 64's physics engine? Maybe you are good at devising training mode combos. Please elaborate on what you think you specialize in.

How often do you attend console/online tournaments? Specify between console/online.

Are you a Tournament Organiser yourself? If so, how successful are your tournaments? Again, please specify whether the tournament was console or online.

Have you made topics, posts, or videos that benefit the community as a whole? Please indicate relevant contributions with links.

What opinions do you have on the current published tier list and ruleset? All insightful responses are welcome, and extended responses will be read and considered. Show off your ability to be concise and persuasive.

What do you plan to bring to the SSB64 Backroom that others may not be able to offer?

Is there anything else you would like us to take into account for your selection? Please show your initiative and willingness to be an active, contributing member to the backroom.

Feel free to quote this application guideline and respond in the given gaps when PMing the application to us.

Do note that pleasing formatting is strongly recommended. While it may not affect our position, studies have shown aesthetic sense to reflect well on the artist (or applicant, in this case).

Surri, A$, Blue Yoshi or wandering mod, please sticky and label as [IMPORTANT]

malva, stop being lazy this time around. I swear your application could be: "Hi I'm malva00" and they'll let you in.

Well, since ciaza already kind of put the idea out there, I guess there's not too much harm in posting this idea I posted in the Backroom:

If I was malva, and I didn't feel like writing an application, I would send a blank one, just to see what the Backroom leaders would do (and play games with the community). If they accepted me, I could be smug in the knowledge that I successfully avoided unnecessary work. If they rejected me, I could say so in the social thread and watch the 64 community revolt, putting the Backroom leaders under pressure. Win-win. Oh god, why do I think of these things?

I'm actually pretty sick of this assumption.

Why would we want someone who would be useless to us?

If he has no interest in joining and posts a joke application it'll be ignored like any other. It should be obvious that regardless of who he is if he doesn't want to make legitimate contributions there is no need for him in the BR.

I think you'd be let in just by posting here that you're willing to.
lol

EDIT: I'm not applying because I don't think I'd have the time to fill the application, and not gonna even mention about being active if accepted.
What a shame for me though.

I'm gonna apply as soon as I find the time (read: as soon as I get in off the road). When's this due?

I think i'm going to apply.

i haven't been posting as much recently but i think I have read roughly every post on smashboards.com for the last 5 years. I only post when i have a question that hasn't been answered or discover something new/not recently discussed

Because if I apply and get rejected it'll be the ultimate shame, duh.

Best to not try, and that way it's impossible to fail.

Once I have more free time, I'll read over my application again (It's done, I'm just going to review it before submitting it). I'll probably send it tomorrow.

That said, who do I send it to? I was going to send it to the three discussion leaders...

hm. maybe I'll apply. granted I'm an console only player, so I don't near as much experience as online players, and I haven't been around here for too long. but maybe.

Good luck to everyone, I wonder if Peek is applying.
I haven't proven my posting is serious/persuasive/insightful enough yet imo.

The only reason I would even bother trying out atm is for the purple name, purple is my favorite color

One's skill as a player is a factor of being admitted, too. It's not purely based off of posts.

Just saying.

this is my issue too.

EDIT::
  1. if I apply now and get rejected, could that hurt my chances if I reapply later on?
  2. when/if will there be another admission round?
  3. how many people are there in the backroom currently?
  4. I didn't want to leave this on an odd number.

If you post a terribly formatted submission that was quickly written, it may turn on a mental flag that the backroom leaders will associate you with. Answer each question to the best of your ability, format properly, make it look professional. Even if you get rejected, you won't be penalized for that the next time you apply. There's no guarantee that it will help your chances either, but better to present yourself for success.

And I believe there will be future application screenings in the future.

I kinda feel like this forum has enough BR members. won't it be kind of excessive if close to half of the regulars in the 64 boards are BR members.

I was worried about this too, so I brought it up. It's quite possible that nobody will be accepted. TBH I'd be quite surprised if more than 2 people are.

I'd apply, but I still haven't been able to get a GTA scene started, and I move to Scotland in August anyways, so w/e.

Maybe then I'll have a computer that can do Kaillera without lagging.

There may be a few reasons why people may be accepted. Maybe a backroom member is leaving smash for a few months (or just doesn't want to be in the backroom anymore), maybe they have nobody who knows much about a certain character or matchup... or maybe as DMoogle said, they may simply accept nobody else. I don't know why for sure exactly, but it's just a few reasons why they would be looking for someone.

Edit: I'll submit my nearly 2500 word application now. I may or may not have anymore internet access this weekend, so might as well before I forget.

Thank you kindly for all of your submitted applications. We will review them with a relatively critical eye. We're looking at 2, perhaps 3 members at most, so be aware that there competition is tight. Don't be discouraged if you get in.

We might also admit SmasherLink for general lulz

I have to admit I sure was discouraged when I got in the Backroom. It crushed my hopes and dreams.
