What do you mean by "college paper"? Like an entrance essay to college or like a topic for a english comp class? What's the point of the paper. I'm sure it would be more than just "write about something". I could be wrong though. *shrugs*

Uh, so there's no criteria or guideline given for what you're supposed to write about? Usually schools just don't say "write a paper" and be done with it.
Well yes there are guidelines... My professor said anything entertaining, and from then, he'd pick from the three for me to write about. (and he said something that would be appropriate for college, so not a topic about apples and oranges)

I have no idea. xD

The last time I picked something... I picked History of Videogames. Man there isn't books for that at all xD

Well, for the art institutes...they were very (un)creative and just said 'WHY DO YOU WANT TO STUDY YER MAJOR?
So yeah. ANYTHING more creative than that would work.

If it can be absolutely anything, you really shouldn't be asking us for help; instead, you should really pick something you're interested in. For my one "free topic" paper, I wrote about the effects of file-sharing in the music industry and its legality because I am very into music and tech... What are your interests? That could help.

Lol yes I have tried that. I just wanted to see what topics I didn't know about I COULD be interested in.

Last time I tried the history of videogames... gah... I couldn't find much information on that...

I did try going to google, and it helped.

But I still want people to post and see what topics they could come up with, for the future. : D

======================

And I thank everyone for contributing, I appreciate it a ton. <3

I tend to always cover the topic of the GMO industry and Monsanto's monopoly in it everytime I have a choice for a research paper. I know so much on the topic because I've covered it so much. I say it's better to stick to one topic a bunch of times so you have a good background on it than to do a different topic each time.

one mistake people make in writing college papers is trying to choose a unique topic to help make your essay stand out as more creative and inventive.

But people who mark essays don't want to have to deal with all sorts of crazy theories and obscure research they are much more comfortable with the essays they have read and marked a thousand times before.

try for something safe and solid such as novelties in the earth's magnetic field due to battles between rival octopus tribes.

this will secure at least an 80% paper unless you make lots of spelling errors.

You should do a topc on compulsive gambling. That would be very interesting. Gambling can range from never leaving the craps table/slot machine at a casino to being that average joe who goes to the carry-out everyday and buys $20.00 scratch offs.

If I had to pick two more topics to help you....hmm..

2.) What factors in metropolitan cities cause malls to thrive and what factors cause some to fizzle out? Could it be security? Distance from other malls/attractions? Stores in those malls? Food court selection? Parking? Does it have a movie theatre? Management? Gang Problems? Population size?

3.) When it comes to sports what drinks do athletes ages 10-18 generally drink and how does it effect their performance? Do several drink water? Gatorade? Monster/Red Bull?, Pepsi/Mountain Dew?

Alright the third topic is dumb.

I've figured out which paper topics go best for me:

Homosexuality/Same-sex marriage, research paper for a piece of music, and also protecting wildlife.

Same-sex marriage is just an incredibly simple one-sided issue that I've debated on a lot. A research paper of a piece of music (as long as you can include information on the genre and composer) is also very easy. Protecting wildlife, I realized recently that there is a ton of information on this, and why we should do it. It would make a great research paper!

I agree with the octopus tribe thing. That would

a)be unique
b)be interesting.
