I don't see the legitimacy with having a tourney with items being a valid tourney. Btw, my opinion there is so not in singularity.

Eh its ok. Personally I thought that they selected items that would not affect the game play much. If I can recall correctly, there was a thread that had a fair item list (used to be a sticky) and it was pretty close to what they decided it.
