This year is set to be the coolest since 2000, according to a preliminary estimate of global average temperature that is due to be released next week by the Met Office. The global average for 2008 should come in close to 14.3C, which is 0.14C below the average temperature for 2001-07.

The relatively chilly temperatures compared with recent years are not evidence that global warming is slowing however, say climate scientists at the Met Office. "Absolutely not," said Dr Peter Stott, the manager of understanding and attributing climate change at the Met Office's Hadley Centre. "If we are going to understand climate change we need to look at long-term trends."

Climate change seems to be the new word to describe the con that is global warming. When is the warming supposed to start? The climate has been relatively cooling for years now. But I'm sure Al Gore will show me the light.

Lol. Have you ever seen Penn and Teller's bull ****? They have one on global warming. They do, however, say they don't really know if it's real or not, but there is a lot of bs going on.

To think that we have a major impact on "Global Warming" is just following this new and over the top self-important trend we've got going on. Not to say we don't impact the planet at all, but not to the alleged degree.

Penn and Teller is a good show for exposing most of the bull**** going on, but they're ultimately biased and they admit that.

It's really vain to believe that human's have a major impact on the global temperature. The earth has had periods both colder and hotter than this. Mostly much hotter.

The thing is though, it's so hard to find a reliable source about global climate on the internet, because most of the internet is populated mostly by idiots and doomsayers when comes things like this.

Climate change isn't even the focus of his whole web page, click on the home button to see that it's mostly about the movement of the tectonic plates. Climate change just happens to be relevant so there is a section on it.

on an unrelated note, I had hoped the thread was about all the good the bad and the ugly of 2008 :( i'll wait till new years eve for that one i suppose.

Yeah its pretty sad that people are mad because of who won, and there reason mostly, idc what they say, is because he's black. Now im pretty sure that are some people that can back it up really good with like politics and stuff, but "THELinkus" is probably an examlple of the first type.

Do you really believe this was the first election in which people voted for "their favorite?" Gimme a break. Whether you agree with Obama's ideology or not, that's how you win elections—charm the masses. Be approachable, look like you know what you're doing, tell everyone you believe in God and it doesn't matter what your foreign policy or economic plan look like; people will vote for you.

Sorry to burst all your bubbles, but global warming is real; human impact on it is real; most credible sources and researchers agree that it is real. If you think one 'cool year' is some sort of proof of anything against global warming, then you do not understand global weather phenomena or global warming.

Please do some research.

Really though, I suppose all reasonable evidence gets thrown out the window when someone wins a Nobel Prize for pure propaganda depicting the end of the world.

Is climate change real? We have hundreds of millions of years of fossil record that say yes.

Can humans affect climate, with deforestation and urbanization, certainly it is true.

Are humans the primary factor of climate change, absolutely not, there's evidence that shows that it's not, some of is of course, the earth has been a frozen, and scorched wasteland in the past long before humans were even here.

If anybody doubts it, I'd direct them to the NatGeo issue from some months back that had a very detailed article on why it is real and how human impact has affected it. I can't remember which month it was; if I find it, I'll let you know.

When I read the topic I thought OP meant cool as in "COOL WITH A K".

I haven't really been following the campaigns for the elections [sue me] but I'm a bit worried that some people may have voted solely on the fact that Obama is [partially] black and that the polls would be skewed in that regard.

On Topic:

Gold, I'd love to see that article. No one has ever been able to give me proof that global warming is real, and until they do. I'm just going to keep thinking it's the pile of bunk the seventies ice age scare was.
