Ok now seriosuly WTF is this sh*t! and spamage? When I meant to adopt Bubbleman I was talking about the "Bubbleman knows his Sh*t! banner", which was made all in good fun, but this feed thing is getting out of hand, as Bubbleman may appear to be a noob here he has been in this thread for way longer than most of you. I just hope that he steps it up at the tournament gets back at some people here.

Haha. vxg you make some good points, except for one thing. There’s no way there will be the same type of competition at VXG as there will be at OC2. The tops of the U.S. are in the stars right now, and much of the rest of the world is still trying to break out of the atmosphere. But I have no doubt there will be some good players there.
I don;t think i said that the players at VxG would be as good as those at OC2. As i mentioned, we believe that people should try their skills regionally before going international, implying that generally regional (as in caribbean region) competition is a couple steps below international (USA and worlwide) competition.

As for the difficulty of the game, well, as an organizer i can say that everyone says the same thing about their fighting game, but personally, i think many underestimate the complexity of Smash. The cool thing about smash is that SO many gamers come out for the competition, both casual and professional-level players, which shows that the game has both a hardcore and funcore following, but it also make other gamers think that the game is not very hard, which is not true.

But THE hardest fighter ever to master? Trust me... that would be Virtua Fighter 4 or 5... :)

Well I’ve never played VF so I can’t say. However I can say that I’ve been playing fighters advanced since the SNES era, and I’d definitely place Smash in top 3 of hardest fighters to master at metagame. It’s because of the amount of movement in this game and other aspects such as DI. Unlike other games, the amount of potential mixups shoot up drastically since so many different forms of movements are possible. It beefs up unpredictability tenfold. Because of this you can’t simply walk up to opponents and try to do a whole bunch of mixups in their face.

-Approaching is a lot harder because of movements like wavedashing, dash dancing, and the aerial freedom you have.

-Surviving hits depend on how good your DI is. You need to know what direction to DI in response to the move the opponent did, and you need to do it in a fraction of a second to respond to your opponent’s attack. Many times you have to DI ahead of time to PREDICT that your opponent might attack you, just so that you’d be ready in case they use a fast move.

-You need to be consistent with various techniques in this game, whereas many other fighters do not have as many universal techniques as opposed to character specific ones. There’s teching, ledge teching, l-canceling, powershielding, wavedashing, dash dancing, shffling, float canceling, sing canceling, ledge sweetspotting, latch canceling, chain throwing, etc etc. You have to be able to do these things almost perfectly, AND still know all the character specific things, which there are more than most other fighters due to the fact that there is a unique thing to Smash other than freedom of movement: a physics engine.

-More on the physics. Each character has their own weight class and falling speed. Weight determines how far they can be knocked at a given percentage from a given move, and falling speed is exactly that. It effects their recovery, aerial speed, who can chain throw them, the types of combos they can be caught in, etc. So not only must you know everything I mentioned above, you need to know a completely different set of combos and other things for fighting a floaty character than you would a fast faller like Fox. This is also on top of knowing that character’s strategies at a high level and being able to counter them.

-Most other fighters involve two people looking at each other and either holding back or a button to block. In Smash you can actually approach people or defend with your back turned to them. This allows even more mixups you can do (as well as need to watch out for yourself) and adds to the unpredictability.

-Blocking is very simple in other fighters. In Smash there is more to it. You put up a shield that can be hit low after it wears off a little. There is also light shielding in this game, which is when you hold the button just slightly. You not only need to know when to block and do it on time, you need to know whether to shield or light shield. In most cases shielding normally is best, but let’s say you are on a platform and your opponent is below, light shielding is best because they can easily hit your feet. Sometimes your opponents try to hit you with an aerial and then grab. Sometimes light shielding here is good because you get more blockstun, but your opponent pushes you back more, often times out of their grab range.

-Approaching with aerials is not as simple because of shieldgrabbing. People can grab directly out of their shields, punishing people who recklessly approach them.

-All characters can use their up B or up smash attacks directly out of their shields, which adds to the possible counter strategies a defensive person has available to them. They can also jump out of their shields, allowing them to immediately counter with an aerial or make a retreat if necessary. And whenever jumping off the floor is possible, so is wavedashing.

The funny thing about this is that I made a really long post in response to yours and words don’t even do it justice. I summed up much (not all) of what competitive Smash is all about. I can easily do the same for some other fighters too to show that, while they may be tough, they’re still easier to learn and play at a higher level than Smash. I’m done with the essays for now.

Intersting post HDL I never could have explained that as you did. I always say that SMASH ES EL ROMPE-CONTROLES! (TEH controller-breaker) explaining that involves some hardcore ****.

But it's true! I'm even more pumped on playing smash.

vxg-great posts
manacloud-thanx for your interest we'll try to assist next time.

As for the rest- FUNNY stuff but stop the spamming.

Hey are you guys going to smash this weekend?

Wow great post HDL... you ALMOST convinced me that smash is tougher than VF4 and 5 in the process heheeh. I won't go into as much detail as you, and this is a smash forum so i don't wanna go off topic, but VF basically is considered by most (gamers but also game developers) to be the hardest game ever to master, because of the "chesslike" gameplay, where moves done now affect what will happen as much as 10 seconds later. Thats the best way i can sum up the difficulty of VF4 and 5, but there's much much more.

But yeh great post... mind if i copy your post and put it in our forums? I think it'll be nice for some of our more casual smash players to see your pointers, so that they understand that there' more to the game that just running and picking up the hammer or bat... Lemme know if you're ok with that, your contribution would be greatly appreciated.

Yup Doji, I do expect to do great or average in the next tourney(May 20th's)
Anyways... things seem to have gotten strange around here *looks at some users*, I just hope to leave those noob days anytime soon.
Nice meeting you all(to those news).

And yeah! I know my $#(^ !... Right... Training like mad this week.

To end the post, Karura, NEVER call me Bomberman. That guy sucks compared to Megaman's Bubbleman.

HDL- Remember Yoshi, the poor guy can't jump out of his sheild, you should edit it a little bit more so that Vxg adds it to his forums.

Vxg- As you mentioned Chesslike gameplay, we have to take in mind that positioning is also very important in Smash, is your back against the edge, will the platforms help you where you are, what will the stage do next. A lot of stages have different hazzards that should be taken in account while you play, also the boundries of each stage afe different and when you DI that should be taken in account.

Bubbleman- You better pick your pace up, or I will personally kick your *** on the tournament. Also never again speak bad about Bomberman he has been gracing us with awesome multiplayer 2d platforming action since the 80's.

I’m fine with it, but just keep in mind there are always people that are nonbelievers, so there is more than likely to be some people to call what I said pure BS. Especially since most likely whenever they’ve seen Smash being played, it was an item-plagued 4 player brokenfest on Temple.

Yuca, only one memory card is necessary for all cubes. I strongly recommend that no one leave their memory cards in their cubes. The reason for such is obvious.

Pit doesn’t look like Roy, Roy looks like Pit. Pit comes from an old NES game, Roy comes from a game that came out AFTER Melee.

The super moves appear to be an item. And don’t jump to conclusions saying they’re pulling a MvC. Check out my post in the character balance thread in the Brawl forum.

If you guys haven't planned anything, I suggest to do something on Saturday.

well, now thats a relief, now that i think of it, yes, its an item, cuz mario gets an item and then makes the "godly" fire thingie...so the "link combo" like i say should not differ from that.

To Essence I already planned something. But it seems the only place available is Joe%'s house. YUCA's house is off limits this weekend. We can practice in my house but with a limit of 3 people. Joe% still has to tell me if we can do the Crew traning session in his house. We're not playing only I have to talk to you about all I know about character match ups, good DI, etc..
