You know one way that doesn't get people to cool down? Others completely dismissing their concerns and telling them they are wrong to be upset. Passive aggressive guilt trip posts tend to not do too well either.

Yes how dare people be upset over potentially losing hundreds of other pokemon they already like and are attached to. This one has a dog and some imp thing so that's all right.....

That's not going to change here though. When home goes up people are going to have their maxed out mons in regardless, just a smaller selection of them. Rip anyone who actually liked pokemon that required megas to be relevant in competition though.

Soul Steal. Use it. Abuse it. By that point you should have a good chunk of magic to spend and Soul Steal hits everything on screen while healing you. Hellfire is also a good technique to use if you need some damage until you get to the inverted library to farm for dual crissagrims. :p
