Brawl Mechanics: Damage & Knockback Formulae

Just wanted to commend the OP on some great work. You've just written the first journal paper on smash.

Ask a networking question, get a simple answer

I'll certainly be interested in whatever you can turn up on the matter. Thanks for bringing some actual technical knowledge to this forum - there's far too much misinformation floating around here.

Ask a networking question, get a simple answer

If you've tried the "With Anyone" mode, I'm sure you've experienced games that slow progressively until they're unplayable. I've noticed that during this extreme lag, if I walk over to my computer, I can't even browse the web. My normal internet capabilities return the moment I exit the brawl...

Controllers in Brawl: Is Wiimote/chuck viable?

As someone who's been using the mote+chuck combo since brawl's release, I'll second what others have said. Do NOT use the default control settings. And furthermore, don't simply disregard this control scheme just because you didn't take the time to customize the settings. Here are some...

losing all bandwidth when "with anyone" freezes

I'm often playing smoothly over wifi on the "with anyone" mode when suddenly the game creeps to a halt. I'm not talking about a little input delay - the game is slowed to maybe 5% of its normal speed eventually resulting in a disconnect. I know this happens to everyone. What I just noticed...

Final Smash "Tiers". Which is the best?

Olimar's final smash can definitely be avoided. Once I was playing as pit and had metaknight on my team. Olimar activated his final smash and we both flew up and stayed in the air for the duration. Not a scratch on us.

Nintendo Wifi Adapater, Does it make a difference to lag?

Fred, you raise some good points. I suppose I can't be sure Nintendo isn't hosting these games - just seems odd that they would take that route. Also, they give you an indication of latency between individual friends (red is bad, blue is best) which suggests a peer-to-peer connection. You're...

    Wifi Options..where art thou?

Mine appeared after I erased all game data and started a fresh save file. Maybe it would've appeared had I just waited - I can't tell.

Nintendo Wifi Adapater, Does it make a difference to lag?

There is so much misinformation floating around this forum about Wifi connections. Signal strength doesn't really affect latency (the lag time you feel). Either you have enough signal strength to send bits, or you don't - it's all digital once it's received. The location of your router or Wii...

    Nunchuck Controls

I'm also trying the nunchuck controls just to mix it up. Definitely took some getting used to, but I like it. I ended up with a setup similar to Penguin's. tap jump: off Z: jump A: attack d-pad: special B: shield A+B: grab This seems the most natural because your moving and jumping is all...

    What...? No Options in WiFi?

I read about the solution on the brawl central forums. I don't have the link handy, but you can go search there if you want verification. Initially, my game did not have spectator made or the wifi options menu - the buttons were simply not there. I erased all my game data via the options...

i can't find any waiting games!

There's probably nothing wrong with your network as this is definitely happening to me, too. The few times I've gotten some games going, I've been able to stick with those people and play many rounds. Most times it just won't find an opponent. Eventually it just gives error code 85010. Who...

    Wiimote + Nunchuck viable?

There was really only one in-depth post I've read concerning the wii mote + nunchuck, and the poster actually liked the shake smash. I haven't heard any mention of how easy it is to accidentally trigger a smash. I'm also surprised this setup isn't getting more attention. Remember you should...

Video proof Slipping/tripping is stupidest thing in the history of Smash

slipping depends on the surface I recall reading the post that did a good analysis of slipping. One of the conclusions was that you were much more likely to slip on certain surfaces - especially ice. I wonder if there are any surfaces where slipping is simply impossible. Has anyone tested...
