Guise, I want to teach my sister how to play Smash Bros, but I don't know what character would be best for her to start playing with. The characters she likes are:

:4robinm::rosalina::4greninja::4lucario::4lucina::4peach::4palutena::4myfriends::4zss:

I think she might like :4pit: too.

Which one of these do you guys think would be easier for her to start with and learn the game's fundamentals?

I would say Pit is a good choice.
Teaches her some throw combos, spacing with arrows, and gives her an easier time to recover with his extra jumps/recovery height.

Do Rosalina or Pit because both have a pretty low skill floor. Rosalina might be better in the long run because she has a much higher skill ceiling, but that doesn't really matter that much.

The only thing with Pit is that she could get used to his multiple jumps and then develop a bad habit of "overjumping" with characters that only have the normal amount of jumps.

:4peach::4robinm::4greninja: should be an instant no because they are pretty difficult to use and aren't very good characters to introduce newcomers to the game.

But what really matters is her using the character that she likes to use the most. If she wants to use Peach or Greninja, then let her. After all, the game is about having fun.

Pit, Pit, and... Dark Pit. Why? Pit introduces you to pretty much everything in the game. Rapid jabs, Gentlemans, spikes, tippers, super armor, reflectors, projectiles, and multi-jumps. He's only missing wall jumps... Pit's the jack of all trades in this game next to Mario. If you're purely going for teaching stuff like that, Pit might be the way to go.

Otherwise, Lucina might work... Just tell her to Side Smash. And there's always the Greninja siblings route. :p

Fundamentals can be learned with any character, but being exposed to all of them and being able to use and understand all of them would be great. So, have her pick a character she really likes and really likes playing. If she likes Lucario, but hates playing him, that might not be a good option. If she likes playing as Peach, but doesn't want to invest time into Peach, that's also a problem. If she finds Ike too easy to use and not fun, then that's a problem too.

When we play (which is pretty much only when my friends come over) she usually picks :4myfriends: because she used him in Brawl but I dunno if that's because she likes playing as him or just finds him easy to use.

So, Pit and Rosalina seem to be best choices I guess, I'll see with her.

Also I forgot to mention she likes :4shulk:too

But... Yeah.

I can't see that working very well for a beginner lol.

You're forgetting counters, the most prevalent attack in SSB4.

@ FullMoon FullMoon I'd say probably ZSS or Ike. They don't have anything to really complicate their playstyles and are fairly straightforward. Pit and Lucina are also not bad choices.

Hmm, what about Kirby? He's kind of straightforward. FullMoon, does your sister like Kirby?

Perhaps Palutena? She's a rather simple character since about half of her moveset won't be used very often so she could put more time into developing fundamentals. I wouldn't recommend Shulk since he's a super complicated mess, but she really should just use who she likes.

Wait, fundamentals?

Pit definitely. Maybe Robin.

Lucina, Lucario, and Rosalina are too gimmicky to learn fundamentals from.

Don't listen to those guys. Samus is really easy to use

Also, **** no to Luigi
Hence, this emoticon, :p, Berzie-kun. Whenever that emoticon shows up, I'm dead serious. :p

Hmm... Maybe Ganondorf or Dr. Mario would be good characters to start off with. You basically rely on the barest of play: fundamentals, with them. Yoshi could work too, but Yoshi's kind of awkward for some players. Ditto with Mega Man being awkward for some people.

Ness is the best beginner character.
Yeah. Until they find out that his side grab is broken and spammable, thus turning beginners into try-hard trolls who live by producing Salt on Roll Glory.
