Contest ends on September 26th at 11:59 PM Pacific Standard Time

Welcome all to the first rendition of Your Legend of Zelda (YLoZ), a contest where you do exactly as the title suggests: create a Legend of Zelda. DO NOT tie it into the official timeline due to the subject being unstable enough as it is. This would only hurt your review since the judges might have different views of how the timeline works.

~ Rules & Regulations ~

Guidelines - must include:
- Basic plot outline
- Link, Zelda, and Ganon (if Ganon is not physically present, he must still be tied to the replacement antagonist somehow a la AoL, OoX, TMC, FS).
- Name of world it's based in. Can be any we've seen before or completely original (if original, please include a description).
- Names/Locations, and descriptions of at least four (4) dungeons and a very basic overview of the boss fights.
- Description of final conflict/dungeon.

Other Rules:
- Can be any length you choose (no min. or max. word count)
- Can include images if it helps support your writing. Don’t use oversized images; use Photoshop, GIMP, or the like to size down, and edit so that it nearly seamlessly fits with the text.
- No cross-franchising (do not include anything from other series).
- Do not post any of your Legend in the thread prior to it's completion
- And to reiterate what was said before, DO NOT tie this into any of the official games at all. I can't stress this enough.

~ Judging ~

1. Originality: Simply put, how original does this feel? Is it too similar to any number of the pre-existing Legends of Zelda? Is it too different in that it doesn’t feel like Zelda at all? Or does it properly reflect the Legend of Zelda series, while still introducing just enough originality?
2. Adherence to Guidelines: Does your Legend fulfill the guidelines? Make sure it does and this category will be fine. Keep in mind, that there’s always the chance that it may not follow the guidelines, but can make up for the loss with perfectly crafted content that you may receive bonus points simply for that.
3. Cohesiveness of Ideas: How well do your ideas fit together? Does your Legend look sloppily thrown together, or do the ideas weave in an out of one another so well, that it all seems and feels natural?

The two judges will be: Spire III and SkylerOcon.

~ Prizes! ~

WINNER!
- Custom Logo of your Legend of Zelda.
- Large portrait reflecting the description and feel of your Legend (will be personally drawn by Spire III).
- Your Legend will be permanently displayed in the thread as an official SWF Legend of Zelda.
- You will have the option of judging in the next contest.

~ How to Enter ~

Post your written up Legend of Zelda in a single post within this thread, making sure to title the post with your Legend’s name (i.e. The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Ocarina of Twilight Wind).

DO NOT plagiarize. We will catch you if you do, and you will be instantly disqualified and banned from all future installments of the contest. Along with not posting fraudulent work, no joke entries... unless they're really funny, but it probably isn't, so don't test your luck.

The purpose of this contest is to encourage the SWF community to engage the Zelda series with a desire to learn, have fun, and create. Please, just be humble :) Remember, those of you who participate(d) in the SWF: Project Zelda thread weren’t doing so to compete, so don’t focus on trying to beat anyone else, because frankly, you don’t know how other entries will turn out. Simply focus on making the most original and invigorating Legend of Zelda you possibly can. Your imagination is free to roam as far as possible, so long as you follow our guidelines. Now get to scribing your Legend of Zelda!

Spire, are you entering? Because if you are, well, we might as well give up lol.
Haha, no way. I wouldn't enter my own contest!

I encourage all of you to do this. I'm looking forward to every single entry.

This is something I believe the Zelda forum needs. I'm going to be brainstorming ideas for a little while...

Prepare yourself, judges! The greatest LoZ idea awaits!

I may include a bonus to my work by adding some original music or actual dungeon design.

That post made me very sad, Zanbeena. :( I have faith in you. I will be refraining from entering due to being busy with college, and other obligations of fiction including but not limited to SWF: Project Zelda. The best of luck to all who enter. I will be following this thread, as there are a lot of very knowledgeable Zelda-philes on here who could do some good work. Best of luck to you all!

New Rules! (Not Bill Maher)

Added a couple more rules to the OP:

- Name of world it's based in. Can be any we've seen before or completely original (if original, please include a description).

- No cross-franchising (do not include anything from other series).

Do you mean I cant use characters already from Zelda games, like Tingle? (Not that I'm using Tingle, it is just an example)

Or do you mean something more like Samus or Star Fox cant make an appearance?

I dont mind either way. I just want to see how open I can be before I go any further with any of my plans.

You can't use Samus, Fox, Pikachu or Mario, etc, etc. Anything from Zelda is absolutely fine.

Skyler edit: For further clarification, yes, you can use Tingle, the Mailman, Vaati, or any character that has made an appearance in a Zelda game.

I always got the impression from the rules that it was intended for the contestants to post their Zelda in a descriptive format, explaining its plot, characters, locations, etc., and then being done with it. Is it okay if one posted their Zelda in an actual story format, like a fiction, perhaps even told from Link's point of view?

Spire and I haven't talked about this, and though it was originally supposed to be a design document of sorts, this might also be acceptable.

Next time I catch Spire on AIM, we'll talk about it. It's a tentative yes... but that might change to a no.

We've discussed. As long as the narration meets the guidelines, it's okay.

Skyler edit: Though we probably should've included this in the OP (we just assumed that this would be, well, assumed... guess not), please do not post any of your Legend in the thread prior to its' completion. It would be like submitting a WWYP entry paragraph by paragraph - it would make no sense. Sorry Phantom :(

But we're still looking forward to your completed entry :)

And I'm looking forward to being a spectator! We'll see if can't come up with something in between exams this week, so maybe I won't be just a spectator.

The sad thing is that I have been extremely busy this week and will be even more busy the next few days to come. I have art I have to do for my job, I have had long days at the shop so I have to go to bed early, and tomorrow is the dreaded "harvest Fest" in which everyone in town come down to the shop and order gigantic amounts of food and drinks.

I dont want to sound like I'm making excuses... but my imagination is fried from the week I've had and thus I cant put my entire heart and soul into My LOZ.

I know this idea might be thrown away right when you folks hear it... but can we add a few days to the limit? Mostly on the sheer fact that, you know, it's the 17th... and I dont have anything really done on it except a really nice beginning. It's mostly my own fault because I dont know how "basic" the outline needs to be in order to get my ideas across and thus I tend to write the entire darn thing in story. I have about 12 freaking pages of "basic outline" for just the f****ing beginning of MLOZ.

If not... then... well, better luck next time for me, because I might have to turn in my cap.

I would really like to come up with something, but I just don't think I have the time.

Grrrr my busy schedule =(
Same here - have four exams this week and a lab that I have to drive an hour to get to (Georgia Tech Savannah crap). Maybe the drive will give me some time to think?

Oh, I've had a cool idea for a Zelda story for quite some time. I'll write it up tonight after school.

EDIT: Um, any way to postpone it? I thought I'd get home early enough to write up a good story, but traffic had me stuck, and now I have to go to work pretty soon. I'd do it this weekend, but I'm heading to a regional tournament tomorrow, pretty much leaving my whole weekend full.

I suggest it, since no one so far has a story written up, and the deadline is in two days.

Man, I really don't think I'll have enough time for this tonight. I've had tons of tests, and haven't been on the computer for ages.

Hopefully I'll have some time tonight to do it. :dizzy:

Just a Reminder

Remember, DO NOT tie this into any of the official games. Relative to the magnitude at which you do this may cost you a detraction in points (most likely costing you your chance to win), or a complete disqualification. The purpose of this is to give you as much freedom as you want (aside from the other guidelines) to create whatever you desire.

Oh darn. I'm very late to the party here, but this sounds really interesting. I'm not sure if I can make something in only a week, but I'll try to come up with something... with Tingle in an extremely prominent role! :bee:
