How many of you have ever used Link at your first go at one? What place did you make it? I'm just wondering thats all. I placed fourth at one, but thats only because I lost to a terrible glitch. I used a Spin Attack then my opponent (who was also my brother) just simply blocked the the main hit, then let's go of his shield and hits me with a smash attack all while I'm still spinning around, how much does that suck? Anyways how did your first win/loss go at a tournament? Hope you guys have interesting stories to tell.

By the way this is my first post outside the Meet and Greet board, so tell me if I screwed up anywhere.

That's not a glitch. Link's Spin Strike only hits someone once, whether it's the person or his shield. That's why it's very stupid to spam it.

Yeah... My first was a disaster. If you know what you're doing, and you practice, then maybey you'll do well, but I was at least three stocked every game I played. (It still happens sometimes) The main reason I have trouble with link is everyone in my area is really good. You probably won't have as much as a problem, especially if you can place 4th at a local tounament with link.

I haven't really been in a tournament yet. If you consider an 8 people smashfest tournament one, then yeah I guess. All my friends aren't really that good so ofcourse I beat them all easy squeezy. Depending on how big the tournaments are, you should either join tournaments to get better at the game or join tournaments to have fun.

There aren't many tournaments where I live, Adelaide Hills, SA. In fact, I don't think there's ever been one. There may be some hosted in Adelaide, but I never hear about them.

First tourny I went to I went all Link and won. It was local though, NH isn't exactly known for smash. The first real tourny I went to I think I got like 7th or 8th out of 20something people, it was MST7: Aeris dies. Didn't place bad but it was still disillusioning. I did well in low tier though.

I got first going all Link at my first tourney. It was local. Since I starated attending the regional tournaments I haven't been keeping track of my placing much. All I know is it averages out to about 12 out of roughly 30-40. At least, I'm power ranked 12th so I think that's what it means...

First tourney i went to I dominated with link! it was like a 30 man tourney, then I went to OC2 thinking I was the ****, and well lets just say I didnt do that well >.> I got 4 stocked twice by Taj's mewtwo, it was seriously a depressing day, (I thought Mewtwo sucked balls) It was later I found out that Taj was a pro Mewtwo player, seeing as he was fighting ken in the Semi-finals.

I actually haven't gone to a tourney yet, but me and my friend are going to one in misisaga (sp) in the summer. apperently it's some big tourney for Canada. anyway I'm expecting to get owned, not rly make it past first round etc. but I'm not entirely newb so it should still be fun.

And I'm back from the tournament boasting 4th place, I lost to a Falco in Falco dittos (should of been Link but eh)

It was funny, I lost to this one Jigglypuff because he would keep attacking me when I fell off the edge, but when he switched to Fox and Marth...I beat him. And they where a good Fox/Marth

LINK = TOP TIER

My first tournament was at gamecrazy and it was a free for all, anyways, i pwned with link the first few rounds and then, this was before I knew advanced techniques or knew any of my current crew, I got to the semi finals with 3 people in the match. And of course they ganged up on me. really really bad. And it didnt help that I dropped my controller and accidently chose brinstar as the stage, Anyway, as far as I've gotten in tournaments is the finals and lost by a narrow margin.

ROFL!! Haha... Yes, if you let them pick brinstar and you went along with it... I don't know where you were. MLG standard rules is 1v1, 2/3, loser of first round pick 2nd rounds's stage, etc. I just cant even imaging how you drop your controller. I mean, when you're tense and focused, don't you hold on tighter? :rotfl:

It's okay. Once, when I went to a tourney, I was playing against some 11yr guy and he picks DK or something. I chose Captain Falcon and ran and jumped around for a little, and he starts charging his Fsmash, and he HITS ME with it. I wavedash right in front of him, while I was ignoring him and trying to land all my SHFFLS and L cancels. (Short hopping is hard to do as C.F.) A friend was watching, and he didn't let me forget it for the rest of the day.:psycho:

My first tournament, which was held at the local college in Reno, i did pretty darn terrible. It was a little bit after the game came out and since i was poor i didn't have a copy and i hadn't played much of melee but i entered it anyway.

I sucked horridly but i had a ton of fun. XD
