School is starting back up for many of us. It's inevitable; don't fight it. The summer is getting shorter, and in my case so is my life... no, really.

So I decided to stay in one of the dorms my first semester at Auburn University. I could have split rent with my older brother at a really nice apartment complex if I wanted to, but instead i decided to live the dorm life, for whatever it's worth. Not only that, but I also I decided to get a random roommate to, you know, meet new people? Yeah, bad idea.

Long story short, I met him today and he seems alright. I helped him bring his belongings upstairs when he arrived. I helped unpack everything while we talk about ourselves- everything from our hobbies to habits to what we think about MMO FPSs, which quite frankly I didn't know existed until then. xD

Later tonight, I sat in my bed and started browsing the forums a bit when I began to hear this faint vacuum cleaner sound. Early on I shrugged it off as there being something wrong with the AC unit. Later I realized it was coming directly from my roommate... He snores. I have never slept in the same room of a snorer. I didn't know what it was like until about 20 minutes ago. T_T

Over time it grew even louder... and louder... and louder... and now I wish there was a vacuum cleaner in the room instead of him, lol.

I tried putting my head under the pillow. It doesn't block the sound.

Right now, as I type this, I've got in some earbuds... but I CAN STILL HEAR IT CLEARLY.

Help... me...

LMAO, I have slept with snorer's in rooms. It's a bad idea to sleep with people you don't wish to sleep with/know in the same room.

Gf2tw's advice: go to bed before him.

Ear plugs. Good investment. I used to work graveyard shift. People are loud as sh*t in the daytime.

Does he sleep on his back? Try rolling him onto his side.

I've been in a school for a week.
I've been in school for 2 weeks...

So yah.. ask him about it and see if he minds finding a ..... well.... thing to help his snoring. But ear buds are probably the best option. Maybe even listening to your iPod and falling asleep to that (if you don't mind a dead battery waking up..)

or if you have enough money you can by one of those noise canceling head phones(crazy science behind them too, they actually amplify sound, to cancel it out weird right). finding an alarm to physically touch you to wake you up is another thing u'll need(noise doesn't work if you actually know how those noise canceling headphones work)

Cool story bro is not an option he can take.
You should try harder.

Options:

  • Those pricey Bose noise cancellers.
  • Cheap Earplugs
  • Sleep before he sleeps
  • Cool story bro
So these are my options.
Hmm...

I guess I'll get some sort of earplug/headphone device that'll have to work. :urg:
Those Breath Right strips might work as well...

You guys ever have any bad experiences with snoring? T_T

Someone elses snoring actually lulls me to sleep faster. I think its because when I was a wee one and I was scared of nightmares, my dad's rumbling snore from the room next door was very comforting. Then again, now I sleep right next to someone that grinds his teeth all night. Snoring is like a lullaby compared to that.

If none of the suggestions given by others end up being helpful to you, you may become desensitized to it over time and kind of get used to it. Try getting yourself worn out before you go to sleep, so you are likely to dose off quicker and be too tired to take notice of distractions.
