FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF.

Well, time to get used to retro gaming. The moment every console has this bull we're never going to see it end and we can say goodbye to non-gimmicky gaming.

I find it funny that shooterbox 360 fans think of it as the wii-ification of the Xbox rather than a leap into the next generation of tech for the FPS genre.

I find 360 shooter controls to be easier than Wii shooter controls.

Also, I'm not a shooter fan. I own about 2 FPS's, to be honest.

How bad will this product fail?
Xbox is coming rather wii-ish in a way. The people you create on there (mii copying) and now this... >:O
Unfortunately for Microsoft, this isn't in their hands. Some third party is making it, and no matter how steadfast the first party is against motion controls, they cannot deny a 3rd party developer from making them instead without an even worse PR disaster. Microsoft cannot outright oppose the creativity of 3rd party developers in creating material for the Xbox360.

In other words, Microsoft might be more angry than you. Their entire install base is afraid that the Xbox will become the wagglebox 360. That can't be good for brand loyalty.

Yeah, just look how good Metroid Prime 3 did.
...
Fixed

EDIT: dual analogue stick might be easier now for a lot of people than infrared now; however, dual analogue stick is a huge unintuitive hurdle that bars access to the genre. It took me 3 months to be decent at Halo online because although the controls were the best option available, they took months to master.

ITS A TRAP

Point is that, what this guy says here, is coming true. Hell the reactions were even predicted like using the terms "Bandwagon"

Besides the only one thing I like about the Wii mote right now is the deadly accurate I.R pointer. But that's my opinion. The motion controls for most 3rd party games feel tacked on. So until Motion + comes out, I'm not swinging my arms like a maniac.

Man, I'm ready to bust some Microsoft balls anytime now...

And Xbox FPS controls are just fine the way they are, though curiously I do better on PS3 when it comes to shooters.

Oh, that's because the current controllers are not very good for FPS's.

As they age, the joysticks tend to register the neutral position incorrectly, and you drift/move a little to the left or right.

Halloween Captain, let me be the first to tell you, you are ********. Well, I'm probably not the first to say that, but either way that makes me feel a lot better having said that.

The 360 community isn't worried that the 360 is going to become the "wagglebox 360". This is a third party device that won't be picked up by other companies. A third party device, especially an optional one, is not going to become the standard for anything. Let's not forget we are FOUR years into this console cycle. This device is going to be released and forgotten. It's not going to become the standard for anything, you aren't going to see 360 FPS games being released to take advantage of it, blah blah.

You are using this announcement as a means to stir the pot saying "MOTION CONTROLS ARE THE FUTURE XBOX IS FOLLOWING NINTENDO!" Please, just do everyone a favor and shut the hell up.

There are two primary groups of people who care about this device on IGN.

There are the people who hate it and think microsoft is a sellout, and there are the people who comfort themselves by saying this is a third party device, which means microsoft isn't actually supporting motion controls.

Read the board comments yourself, if you want. http://gear.ign.com/articles/965/965841c.html

-Defensive Co-option of the Disruption

An incumbent performs a defensive co-option when it realizes the disruptor is successfully taking away the old market. As Dell moved upmarket, HP had to respond or else see its entire marketshare be taken away. By emulating Dell in customization on the lower tiers, this stopped Dell at that tier. Dell could no longer advance higher.

Sony intended to disrupt PCs by using the Play Station which caused Microsoft to respond. The entire purpose of the Xbox Franchise is to be a defensive co-option. In this manner, the Xbox Franchise is successful because the Xbox 360 is slowing down the Play Station 3 if not paralyzing it. Sony cannot advance upward anymore.

Wii’s unique elements are poised to alter the upmarket games forever as the new values bubble up from below. Sony and Microsoft see this shockwave flowing up, and what can they do?

A reader says, “The incumbent can simply copy the innovation and stop the disruptor.”

Ahh, but reader, when the incumbent brings the innovation to its market, it never works the way the incumbent plans it.

”Of course, it is worse than this. Not only does an incumbent try to bring the innovation to its existing customers, it typically tries to bring it to its best existing customers. Ironically, these customers value the new attributes of the disruptive innovation the least.”

-Clayton Christensen, “Seeing What’s Next”. Page 50

This explains why die-hard Xbox fans are the most vocal against a Microsoft Wii-mote knock-off.
