I was thinking the other day about the future of melee. I was thinking how eventually we might have to rely on roms and emulators to play this game. I was thinking this b/c the wii-u wont be backwards compatible (bc for now on) with the gc and as far as we know, and it wont have a gc controller to work with. I figure there must be some kind of normal controller for the system since i assume it will have a vc and u need normal controllers to play many of the old games. Then it came to me that smash 64 is on the vc for the wii. This in mind i figured the wii-u could have gc games on their vc. If this does happen then it is somewhat likely that melee will be one of the games u will eventually be able to get.

Now i did not plan to ever buy a wii-u. but if melee came out for the vc I might have to get a wii-u. So If it did come out would u buy a wii-u?

Not sure if this is the right spot for this, but i am curious about what other people think about this possible situation and if this will/could keep melee alive for generations to come.

The wiiu still supports wii remotes so the wii's classic controller (pro) will probably be used for VC on the wiiu as well. I would prefer a GC controller over classic controller to play smash though, so I would have an eye out for some adapter making me able to hook up my GC controller to a wii remote :p

Yes, I probably would get a wiiu if it had melee on its VC. Or i'd at the very least download melee if I had a wiiu :p
Especially if nintendo would take their time to add in some online to their VC games this time.

I think the release of GCN games, including Melee, is a given for the Wii-U. I'm also willing to bet that Nintendo is going to design a new controller attachment for it, since the GCN controller has analog shoulder buttons and the CC Pro doesn't, among other reasons. In any case, I'm slightly worried about how it will turn out, since Nintendo cares absolutely nothing for the competitive scene.

Nintendo doesn't care about the Gamecube anymore. Period. It's a shame, cause I'd so far as to say it's their second best system. (SNES has to go first, though)

If they did though, I might.

No, I'd just play melee on a cube or the wii. By the times those systems are rare items to find, I hope I'm not playing melee anymore.

I was getting one anyway..Players wouldn't have a hard time adjusting to the Wii-U controller.Wasn't as big a difference when switching from the N64 controller to the GC controller from Smash64 -> Melee

Melee will have a high chance of being on VC anyway..I suggests people start stocking up ion GC controllers, and GC memory cards before Nintendo stop producing official ones..

Well i'm getting Wii U regardless

But if they released Melee in HD or something, I'd ask Madcatz to make a GC controller that is compatible with it. They'd do it if there's enough demand. and then they'd sponsor tournaments too. And players.

Yeah I'm getting the Wii U regardless. Also, there is already a gamecube shaped classic controller, which I have, so I'm not too worried about the controls.

Edit: Here's mine

is that made by nintendo or a 3rd party? Also were did u get it b/c i might want to look into getting one of those as well.

Also I hope/wish they would add online play to melee if they re-release it but i dont expect them to add anything at all.

SECOND BEST SYSTEM?

I count 5 above average titles. The NES, SNES, and N64 are just so much better in my mind.

lol just looked at the picture, idk how i missed the makers name on the top of it (feeling kinda dumb lol)

Also lets stay away from opinions things such as were the gamecube ranks in nintendo systems. Its not what the thread is about and like i said its all opinions so nothing can come from this anyway

you guys are dumb... notice that it says "gamestop" on the top of the controller.

anyways, No i wouldn't buy it because I'm pretty sure they said the WiiU wouldn't have anyway to do kind of LAN multiplayer, so melee would be all online, which doesn't appeal to me because nintendo online sux to much for a game like melee.

however, if they put Custom Robo (GC) in vc with some kind of online then I'd get it. I love that game.
