Worst voice of a singer.

The worst vocals I've ever heard from a lead singer would have to be the infamous Axl Rose. While he's not busy smoking unidentified substances he is doing his signature screeching, moaning, etc. James Blount is also up there.

Edit: I'm talking Chinese Democracy Axl. Not GNR Axl.

Axl was never as much an abuser as the rest of GNR, but I can't disagree with you -- his vocals are terrible. Trying to redeem himself with Chinese Democracy?

"I DON'T BELIEVE IN A REASON I DOOOOOOOON'T BELIEEEEEVE IT!"

Lyrically, that's backwashed ****. Vocally, he sounds like he's trying to avoid crying by singing in as high a pitch as he can reach. Holy mackerel he's terrible.

Are you people serious? Like, really?

Axl Rose is one of the greatest singers of all time. I guess you guys don't take the time to listen and instead focus on the superficial "screechiness" of his voice in a couple songs (he can do a pretty wide range of voices and pitches). Axl is an extremely talented singer. You will be hardpressed to find anybody who disagrees if you find people that know what they are talking about.

Axl's voice has (had?) amazing range, as well as a great ability to switch from high to low pitches. Axl could croon out the blues, scream and screech, and sing in one of the softest male voices you will ever hear.

There's a reason VH1 Classic put him on their All Time Top 10 Male Singers list (and VH1 Classic is like the only music channel I respect; they tend to be spot-on most of the time).

Not only is he an amazing singer, he was one of (in my opinion) the greatest lyricists of all time; if you ever take the time to really listen to GNR's songs, I think you'll find that most modern musicians can't even hold a candle to GNR's lyrics (a lot of people just listen to "Welcome to the Jungle" and conclude that GNR was just another loud rock/metal band without any real substance; they are dead-wrong, believe me). Add to this that Axl Rose has one of the most distinct (perhaps the most distinct?) voices of any singer, and you've got a winning combination. I can understand if you don't like him because he sometimes uses his signature "screechy" voice, but to claim he's a bad singer or has a bad voice is just ignorant.

Of course, all that gets thrown out the window with Chinese Democracy (which is an Axl Rose project, not a GNR project); Axl used to be an amazing musician, but he's completely lost it. Chinese Democracy is nothing special, and Axl Rose is no longer anything special either. But in GNR's heyday, he was God.

Goldie, this is no place for sophisticated people like us. You are 100% right, as always, and so far has this thread been nothing but:"i don't like you, you suck".

Come, my LLPETB(that stands for Long-Lost-Possibly-Evil-Twin-Brother), come and let's forget about this preposterous insult to the fine art of that is called rock music!

I fear this thread will be overrun will death vocal hate. D:
I kind of expected this too. But then, I imagine most people wouldn't actually be able to name a specific person (myself included). It would just be a lot of people going "I hate vocalists who growl. Grrrr."

Anyway, in regards to the award for worst voice, I nominate Davey Havok. He just ruins music. As does Billy Corgan. I might have become fans of their respective bands if they weren't quite so offensive to my ears.

How was this guy not the first one mentioned?

Bob Dylan is another fine example, though not quite as bad. I don't understand how people can enjoy his singing...maybe there's something everyone else sees that I don't?

I think Rihanna has a fine voice. It's the music she has written for her makes that doesn't appeal to me.

I will never forget the day I was like,"The song from the Watchmen trailer is awesome!"

Maybe it's just that song, but I never wanted to look up any other Smashing Pumpkin songs after that.

Here, here.

The thing that bothers me most is that, like I said, I'd probably be into Smashing Pumpkins if Corgan didn't sing. In almost every Pumpkins song I've heard (admittedly, that's not a lot), the music itself was good-notably good. But then he sings. And then my brain melts and leaks out my ears.

Bob Dylan's singing/voice is a little rough, perhaps unpolished. But I think that's what gives his stuff its memorability. His voice is unmistakable, it conveys the emotion and feeling in his songs. Definitely would not consider his a "bad voice".

I was expecting people to mention Rihanna.
Rihanna can sing 0.o No one who can't sing come to mind, but Louis Armstrong's voice pops into my head since it was raspy, but ti fit into his Jazz theme songs. "What A Wonderful World" was very good. It'll come to me.

Do not say this in close proximity to people, or you will be in great danger of getting shanked. You really don't like this?
Funny that you chose that song...

I actually LIKE that SONG. Just not sung by Bob Dylan. I cannot stand his voice, to say the least.

I know I'm going to get lynched for saying this, but Anberlin's cover of that song > Bob Dylan's version, in my opinion. I would link to it, but it doesn't appear to be on YouTube anywhere...

GoldShadow, I suppose you could say that. To me, it just sounds like nails on a chalkboard, but...to each his own, I guess?

I can't stand his voice either.

I mean, sure, I understand that a person's vocal ability isn't everything, but a decent voice is one of the first things I listen for in music; lyrics and instrumentation come after that. Bob Dylan doesn't have a good voice; as a result, I don't like him.

Just comparing Anberlin to Bob Dylan is an insult in and of itself. I forgive you, because you gave me pokiemans. But really, that's terrible.

Anyway, back to bad vocalists.

How about Lenny Kravitz? Now, I don't think his voive in particular is too bad, but every song he's ever made annoys me.

The remix was a remix that the Smashing Pumpkins did, they make two versions of it. I agree, that song you linked sucks. I'm not a smashing pumpkins fan, I just wikied that song because you complained about it before.

Wayne Coyne is pretty bad. I used to be a huge Lips fan, but man... his voice is weak.

That song is much better.

And I really have no good idea of what you mean, with that paragraph, but I think I get it.

Also, this thread is depressing.

The only thing impressive about that in my mind is that the singer is female.
That song is terrible in general. Do you know any death metal bands that aren't on Rock Band? I'd guess not.

It's pretty much a known fact that Captain Beefheart is the best singer ever.
