Are you people serious? Like, really?
Axl Rose is one of the greatest singers of all time. I guess you guys don't take the time to listen and instead focus on the superficial "screechiness" of his voice in a couple songs (he can do a pretty wide range of voices and pitches). Axl is an extremely talented singer. You will be hardpressed to find anybody who disagrees if you find people that know what they are talking about.
Axl's voice has (had?) amazing range, as well as a great ability to switch from high to low pitches. Axl could croon out the blues, scream and screech, and sing in one of the softest male voices you will ever hear.
There's a reason VH1 Classic put him on their All Time Top 10 Male Singers list (and VH1 Classic is like the only music channel I respect; they tend to be spot-on most of the time).
Not only is he an amazing singer, he was one of (in my opinion) the greatest lyricists of all time; if you ever take the time to really listen to GNR's songs, I think you'll find that most modern musicians can't even hold a candle to GNR's lyrics (a lot of people just listen to "Welcome to the Jungle" and conclude that GNR was just another loud rock/metal band without any real substance; they are dead-wrong, believe me). Add to this that Axl Rose has one of the most distinct (perhaps the most distinct?) voices of any singer, and you've got a winning combination. I can understand if you don't like him because he sometimes uses his signature "screechy" voice, but to claim he's a bad singer or has a bad voice is just ignorant.
Of course, all that gets thrown out the window with Chinese Democracy (which is an Axl Rose project, not a GNR project); Axl used to be an amazing musician, but he's completely lost it. Chinese Democracy is nothing special, and Axl Rose is no longer anything special either. But in GNR's heyday, he was God.
