With the addition of a bunch of new characters...will the old ones will be forgotten?

I was just thinking around today, with the addition of so many new characters, will the old ones be pushed aside and the newer ones be used more? I already know, with Sonic, I am going to be playing him non-stop, mainly because I love Sonic! :chuckle:

But does anyone else seeing the older characters being shafted and not used as much? I am sure online play will be filled with Sonics for the beginning era, but maybe the fad will die down and people will start playing competitively and using other characters, rather than just the new ones?

What is your opinion?

I think for the first few months, the newcomer's are going to be the main attraction.

But once the game starts to trudge on, the oldies yet goodies will still be legitimate characters.

Just look at the conversion from 64 - melee

Newcomers will of course be popular for the first few months, but soon after, you'll have gotten used to them and just play all the regular characters also.

Ugh, I hope not.

I mean, I hope that people aren't like "ZOMG NEW CHARACTERS" and then play Sonic, Snake, and Metaknight non-stop. Only noobs will do that IMO. The real hardcore players will play everyone, find someone who feels best, and work on becoming awesome with that character.
I'm also a hardcore Melee player, and I decided to play Falco because he felt the most confortable for me. But now I'm bored of Falco, so I'm working on Mario, CFalcon, Young Link, IC's, Sheik, Doc, and DK.
Different people like to play games differently, and the smart people won't just stick to popular characters, but try everyone instead.

Edit: DJ Jack got it pretty good.

I might be one of those people I already want to play as Snake, Lucas, Sonic, Meta Knight (WOOT), PT, Pit, Wario, and Diddy (did I miss anyone) However I also want to play as Link, Mario, Kirby...In fact I want to play as all of them (except maybe Peach)

I'm sure the veteran fighters won't be forgotten. What kind of question is that?
The opposite might actually happen and we'll be seeing Melee vets try their hands at mastering Brawl versions of Fox, (Marth?), Peach etc. and their other Melee mains.

Personally, I'll do what I did when Melee and SSB64 came out - play as Kirby for a while, then move on to someone else.

You won't see that much of the old ones for about a year. I for one will trying to get decent at being all of the new characters for a long time before I decide who I want to main. Heck, I'm still getting used to all the characters in Melee! I don't have a main at the moment so I will definetly be trying more concerned with the newcomers for a long time.

I plan to main Mario at first, I've really enjoyed him in Melee lately and he looks to be even more fun in Brawl. I may go back to Luigi again too depending on how he turns out, but since he was the most dependant on Wavedashing of any character, he may feel completely different in Brawl so I'm not sure.

I'll try all the characters of course, and find the one I'm most comfortable with. But as hard as it may be for some to believe, I'm much more excited about playing as Mario and maybe the new Link and (hopefully) Captain Falcon than I am about trying out any of the new characters. Oh, and Bowser, can't wait to try the new Bowser!

Personally, i'll most likely go through Classic Mode (which i really hope they include) with Mario, then whoever's next on the character select screen, and do the same for everyone, to get a feel for all the characters. Whoever i like best, i'll settle on, and then every time i unlock someone, i'll play as them to see if i like them more. If it means i play as Mario, then so be it.

In SSB i played as Kirby because i liked him best, and in SSBM i played as Y. Link.

I'm planning on playing Mario first. Then Pit and Diddy, who've got my attention. PT looks interesting too.

omg, there's so many options. It will be hard to choose!

Hmm......

Mario Bros? Mario.
Mario Kart? Mario.
Mario Party? Mario.
Smash 64? Mario.
Smash Melee? Mario.
Smash Brawl?

It's safe to say I'm going to stick with Mario.

Personally I'd much rather run through the ins-and-outs of the game for the first time with a character I'm familiar with (Mario, in my case) than a new character. That's not to say there aren't newcomers that don't interest me. I mean c'mon... it's Sonic!!!

-rides the hype train-

If you watch the Efor All videos, you notice a fair share of people playing as the veterans./ We see alot of Mario, Donkey Kong, Fox, Bowser, Peach, Link, and Samus played. I think alot of people will still play or main the veterans because they are just as good or, in some cases, better then some of the newcomers.

pfft...Bowser is low tier...no one can win with him...

=D

There are a fair share amount of people actually main Bowser such as Gimpyfish. As well, Bowser gets a huge upgrade tier wise from SSBM to SSBB.

I mained Kirby in SSB64... (with Ness as alternate)
I mained Kirby in SSBM... despite his general suckiness (though I use Marth, Roy, Peach, C. Falcon, Falco and Samus as alternates, with Y. Link and Bowser as Low Tier alternates)
I will main Kirby again in Brawl! Kirby FTW! Although I will probably use Meta Knight as secondary main. Not because of his predicted tier list position, but because he's also a character from my favorite game series.
I'll even play as King DeDeDe if he makes it! Even if he is bottom of bottom tier!
I just like the Kirby games way too much :D
