If you watch the Efor All videos, you notice a fair share of people playing as the veterans./ We see alot of Mario, Donkey Kong, Fox, Bowser, Peach, Link, and Samus played. I think alot of people will still play or main the veterans because they are just as good or, in some cases, better then some of the newcomers.

There are a fair share amount of people actually main Bowser such as Gimpyfish. As well, Bowser gets a huge upgrade tier wise from SSBM to SSBB.

ouch my eyes...and also...I know about Bowser...I was just joking...Gimpyfish is my best friend from high school... and college...woot.. =)

nah, I believe it's based on personal preference, and plus old characters such as Bowser and Samus will NEVER be forgotten, especially since alot of Melee fans will be playing Brawl, but I do have to admit, people will be tempted to try out the new characters, for one I know I do especially Snake

wow where's all the love for Ike?
I'll be trying out him first, then maybe Pit. I'd also like to see how Samus feels in this one (not ZSS though) but yeah Ike to me just seems bad*** HE WIELDS A TWO-HANDED SWORD WITH ONE HAND!!!! how cool is that?
I don't care if he'll be slow i'll work around it.

I'll be semi-"dead" for a while after Fe
I don't know how you guys can live with just a few characters!?!?! :urg:

I've mained everyone at one point, therefore I can use any character a the highest level of competition. (I guess I do love dittos so I have to be :p ) But I just don't see how sticking to one character can be as fun as mastering them all. When i pick up melee, I don't play the same character more than twice in one sitting. I don't really have a weak link in the roster. Sure at this moment my weakest character could either be Roy or G&W (potentially) but that's only because those two are the only two I didn't get the chance to play in the last couple weeks. Next time I sit down, they'll be the first I play with to get the bugs out of my system. Then I'll be ready to match the best with them no problem.

Someone mentioned they got bored with Falco so they moved on to a cluster of others...good to hear.

When Brawl comes out, the first 6 months I'll be playing each one of them in every sitting. If I find something different to try with a character, I'll play them over a couple times and experement with it. Try every character vs every character (my two bros play well too) and that's why I'm confident that I can win with absolutely any character.

Of course I'll probably try Pikachu and Diddy first cause they look like the best and near the middle of the roster in terms of speed, strength and weight etc...

If both Megaman and Mach Rider make the cut, then as far as mains go, yes, I will shun the other characters unless I tire of them...

but, Yoshi is confirmed, he is a vet and I use him seriously. So obviously I won't quit using him just because-

*watches as Ryu Hayabusa is announced* OMG NINJA GAIDENS IN MUH BRAWL!!!! *cries uncontrollably

Well my melee mains are Falcon and Luigi.

Beings that Luigi will be prime suckage due to the loss of WDing. And that Captain isn't my favorite look of a character. Ill probably attract more towards newcomers.

Newcomers will of course be popular for the first few months, but soon after, you'll have gotten used to them and just play all the regular characters also.
Yeah this is true....even if your obsessed with playing with the newcomers, they'll eventually get kinda boring and you'll want to play all the other characters.

Plus, they're the VETERANS, they won't be forgotten...

in retrospect, the newcomers themselves are overhsadowing the older newcomers

Who thinks about Wario anymore? Pokemon Trainer?
Pfft, we all care about Ike, Diddy, Lucas and Sonic now adays.

Sonic to Snake is a good example of attention "theif" if you will. Both 3rd party, but Snake came first. Snake was the talk of the town for his breaking of "Smash Code" or something.

Than Sonic is released. Instead of putting Snake, the original 3rd party character in the demo, Sonic, the 3rd party chracter known around the world and well know for the matter.

Newcomers will always overcome older characters, but overall once the dust settles classics will rise again.

I guess for a couple months, everyone will be excited to play the new characters.

After that, things will settle down. It's not like people don't play Fox or Pikachu because they were in SSB64.

I'll probably start off with Sonic since he is my favorite video game character of all time. I won't forget about Kirby though. He was my main from 64 and I still use him in Melee. Probably DK a bit too. Also, Mega Man is near top of my list...IF he's in the game, that is.

The newcomers will probably be used a lot for the first couple months, and then people will pick charaters they are best with.

For me, I plan on using Meta Knight first because meta knight is my favorite charater ever. And then I will use Kirby because he is my main in ssb64, and i sometimes play with him in melee, but not that much. And Kirby is my second favorite charater ever.

With all these new characters and with the return of veterans which were mostly revamped, I don't understand how kirby and pikachu can still be appealing to anyone D:

But thats just me.

To be honest, I am pretty sick of playing as Mario...I hated him in melee..I only used Falco, Shiek, Peach, and Roy. But so far only Peach has been announced...and they nerfed her d+smash.. =(...so all I really have to look foward to is SONIC now.. =(

Nah. People will try new ones, then old ones, and then settle in. The old ones are practically new characters. Remember what happened to ness?

I was just thinking around today, with the addition of so many new characters, will the old ones be pushed aside and the newer ones be used more? I already know, with Sonic, I am going to be playing him non-stop, mainly because I love Sonic! :chuckle:

But does anyone else seeing the older characters being shafted and not used as much? I am sure online play will be filled with Sonics for the beginning era, but maybe the fad will die down and people will start playing competitively and using other characters, rather than just the new ones?

What is your opinion?
The original 12 got in for a reason. Other than jiggs (and even her to an extent) they are all very popular characters and symbols of their franchises. At first yeah the new characters will be really popular. But as time goes on legendary characters Like Mario and Link will still get their deserved attention.

Sonic will be spammed by noobs. No joke, so get ready to beat the snot out of Sonics being controlled by ten year olds who just got the Wii for christmas from their slave parents.
Oh, me? I'll master sonic THEN get online.
And probably Lucas and Ike too...
Seriously though, no one is going to "not care" about the older characters. Otherwise none of us would've played as the original 12 in melee, right... the newcomers won't be spammed!

I only used Falco, Shiek, Peach, and Roy. But so far only Peach has been announced...and they nerfed her d+smash.. =(...so all I really have to look foward to is SONIC now.. =(

I'd say there will be a general high off the new characters but after everyone gets used to them they start getting into the characters they're best with be it old or new.

Ugh, I hope not.

I mean, I hope that people aren't like "ZOMG NEW CHARACTERS" and then play Sonic, Snake, and Metaknight non-stop. Only noobs will do that IMO. The real hardcore players will play everyone, find someone who feels best, and work on becoming awesome with that character.
I'm also a hardcore Melee player, and I decided to play Falco because he felt the most confortable for me. But now I'm bored of Falco, so I'm working on Mario, CFalcon, Young Link, IC's, Sheik, Doc, and DK.
Different people like to play games differently, and the smart people won't just stick to popular characters, but try everyone instead.

Edit: DJ Jack got it pretty good.
just b/c fans are going to play their favorite character exclusively doesn't mean their "n00bs"
just look at gimpy...
