Will we have a nintendo direct before DK Tropical Freeze? We are in a metaphorical desert of no information, and I think we should get more information on new games, there should be something. And if that happens we may get a newcomer DK, related.

I'd certainly like some more info on Hyrule Warriors and Retro's new Metroid, but I don't know what else they could do besides show off games we already know about.

Okay this is way off topic but: is retro actually making a new metroid? Link please, I have to know more.

Simply search "Retro making next Metroid" on Google.

Nintendo has been "subtly" hinting that Retro is making the next Metroid, which Reggie accidentally confirmed at some event (someone asked him if there was a new Metroid coming, and he started to say "Of course!" but quickly caught himself with "Who's to say?"). Retro has made it clear that they're very fond of the series and would like to return to it (while working on the Prime series, several members of the team about made a fan remake of Metroid II), and Nintendo is likely ready to get the taste of Other M out of everyone's mouths.

It's not a sure thing, but it's fairly obvious that Retro's next project is going to be the next Metroid. I don't know if I should expect Prime 4 or something else, but I'm excited.

Finally, the new metroid has to continue metroid fusions story (last in timeline)
I hope this is super offensive to other m fans- other m sucked hard and it made plot holes to the prime series :(

I think we will. As we usually get a ND before a Big game is going to release, and well, DKCTR is Nintendo big game this month, so they probably have a few things they'd like to show off, as well as reminding people that its coming out soon.

Hard to say what we'll get this month. They'll likely do a Direct, as they never go too long without one. It's been a couple months since they last busted out info.

I'll say, sure they might. But it's Ninty, we never know what those guys are doin'. Even when we think we know, we don't.

Honestly, I don't think we'll get a new Direct either until Nintendo has already released Pokemon Bank worldwide, or until they feel comfortable announcing a hard and fast release date in the Direct itself. I mean, the outrage online is still pretty heated... and that's just from an information drought on their social media outlets. Imagine what would happen if they had a Direct and gave another "well, we'll have more information later" response, or worse, ignored Bank entirely.

No, I don't think the Direct is going to be dictated by DKTF as much as Pokemon Bank.

Amidst all of the bad news, Nintendo needs to generate more hype for the Wii U ASAP. So far, all we know is that after Tropical Freeze, there will be no notable first party game released until Mario Kart 8 in May. That's an awfully long time, March only has Yoshi's New Island for 3DS, and nothing has been confirmed for April. Smash probably won't get a release date until E3. For now, all we can do is pay attention to Sakurai's Twitter feed because apparently he likes to let people know in advance that he has prepared a major reveal for the Direct.

Meanwhile, North America needs a release date for Kirby Triple Deluxe and the new Mario Golf game. There are also announced games for the Wii U that we have had very little information on for over a year now: Yarn Yoshi, X, and Fire Emblem x Shin Megami Tensei.

So I think there will be a Direct this month because they tend to be bimonthly and the 3DS and Wii U install base need more than Mario Kart and Smash to look forward to for this year.

I think Nintendo are just now realizing how important it is to push the 2014 line up, so I assume they will have one late February. This would give them enough time to prepare and bounce back from the large amount of negativity circulating around them due to their economic issues.

What they really need to announce are the release dates to the numerous amount of Wii U games we know little about. Or at least a narrower time frame. Announcing exciting new titles they haven't publicly shown yet would also generate interest for the Wii U and Nintendo in general, which they desperately need.

Or Reggie is just saying all of that to give Metroid fans that glimmer of hope...

I dunno. I hope so at least. Since Tropical Freeze is getting released this month, it would be a good opportunity for a Nintendo Direct to show off more of the game.

There is at least other games they can show as well like Yarn Yoshi, Hyrule Warriors, Mario Kart 8, X, Yoshi's New Island, and, of course, SSB4.

Reggie's "of course" comment could have easily just meant "Of course there's going to be another Metroid eventually."

I don't know, I love Metroid and I love Retro, but I don't want them to be stuck doing the same thing forever just because Other M ended up being a disappointment. They're working wonders with Donkey Kong right now and I'd like to see what they can do with other Nintendo IPs or even an original idea.

I bet there will be a Direct right Before Tropical Freeze is released (and Diddy will most likely be revealed around there sometime). And hopefully, that Direct will have a Newcomer, preferably Ridley, Palutena or Little Mac. ^^

And Mario Kart stuff<3

Well I love smash because we get news. But other Nintendo franchises we have NOTHING since the last nintendo direct, the closest things we have had, was the investors meeting that only gave us a general mario kart date, and the announcement of Sonic Boom for wii u, which isn't even nintendo, it's sega.

Personally, I'm expecting the general Direct to take place after the launch of Tropizal Freeze. When it comes to unveiled characters, I think it's more possible the revelation of a high-profile veterean (i.e. Snake or any of the removed characters from Melee).

If anything, they need to put a release date on Smash 4, show when the first trailer of Zelda U will be released, and announce some-out-of-the-hat-crazy-fanboy-game-that-"everybody"-wants.

But that's all wishful thinking.

There's a side of me that hopes not because I feel that Diddy would inevitably be the reveal if a Direct were to happen this week. I'd rather Diddy be revealed on the 13th and then have a Direct some other week showing off someone new.

If we're getting SSB this side of E3, I'd expect to see the date by April. But I fully expect to see it release after E3, probably three weeks for the first version.

At this point, I am hoping that Diddy Kong will get revealed next week and we get a Nintendo Direct a week after. Revealing him via Nintendo Direct would be a waste in my opinion.

I think they would do nintendo direct before the ps4 launches in japan. You know, try to steal that hype away.
I just want some new announcements, and a hyrule warriors and smash release date.
